Carmac one of the key figures who helped turn gaming into esports. Before the stages and the cameras, he was part of the Unreal Tournament community a place where passion, rivalry, and raw competition shaped the future. His journey from fragging to founding is one of the most authentic stories in esports history.

Imagine this - the ability to play your favourite arena shooter game... IN BROWSER, no download needed!
It's not an invite only closed beta from 2008, but apparently a Docker container.

I put together a prototype for an online multiplayer FPS game which revolves around real world factions and divisions.
Obviously everything would look a lot better with dedicated talent, but the main idea behind it was to have a game where players align to their real world alliances and do battle against their real world enemies.
I don't know if anything will come of it, its just something I wanted to put out there as I worked on it in my spare time.
My main question is, and trolling aside, do you like the idea of playing a game where your team mates are people you are aligned with in the real world on big world issues and your opposition are people who you dislike?
And of course it would have FFA type things too, but it makes more sense as a team game.
It really daunting looking at the visual quality of games like BF6, but its 400 million dollar game with about 6,000 staff.
I'm personally bored of so many games these days, so I wanted to bypass legacy rulesets for how games are made.
Arbitrary teams and factions etc, that don't really mean much, and bring in low level emotions and then build a game around that.
Does anyone know if the WMO has a JST connector on the PCB for the cable or are the cables soldered in there? I would like to do the paracord mod but if it's not a matter of switching the cable and you have to solder it then I'll have to find someone skilled that knows how to do it. I have heard some models have the cable soldered permanently and others have a JST connector but isn't clear.
The quake movies I have found worthy enough to stay in my PC's HDD are:
Just Quake
Q3 fuel 2
CPMA done by Voo (this one is just raw ownage)
get quaked 2
get quaked 3
Annihilation
lof.RA3.fnu
lexers ownage 2k2.... or whatever the name of that is
I guess these are popular anyways
some not so popular ones
"the second genearation" made by 4 danish quakers
Smooth Frags - A CLX Quake3 movie
and ofc all the lobstarz promode movies cause they are really fun
mercurial and few other promode movies

I'm converting Just Quake HQ to divx format and will put it up on stage6 asap, it will take a while though, converting movies isn't my cpu's best friend. its probably up tomorrow!
Lyon Connection is not on the list... so it has to be Annihilation. Back in the days it was revolutionary, the newer movies are good and have much better quality but they lack that innovation that Annihilation brought in.
yea only movie that i'd give a 10. top notch editing that raised the bar for videos and content that makes you go wtf. then there's the great audio mixing, look, feel, colours, effects and so on.
depends on whether you base them on the time they came out or their appeal now. i mean annihilation would be a weak movie if it was released today. out of that list ive watched just quake the most but i wouldnt call it the best ever, theres just too many movies
Just watched virtuosity for the first time and it was probably the worst q3 movie I've ever seen, not sure why it's on the list, terrible music, some good frags but mostly incredibly easy rails and people walking into rockets, editing was pretty good though (except for the old "lets display the lyrics to take up some time because I have no content" trick, it's retarded in the first place but if you're gonna do it, do it right, "better then I know myself"? :D).
Out of all those movies, probably the one that I enjoyed the most was the badge 3, some of the frags were pretty amazing in it for the time (although I know people whined they were staged, what's this based on? 'cause they were good? If so: idiots) and the editing was top notch,
If the author said it then fair enough, but otherwise it's just people being stupid :). I doubt you'd ever find out if the author said it unless he came on here and said either way, with shit like this, somebody says "those frags look timescaled!" and it ends up as "THE AUTHOR HAS MADE A PRESS RELEASE APOLOGISING FOR THE TIMESCALED FRAGS WHICH HE HAS ADMITTED TO"
for people who are having trouble finding older movies because of own-age mirror links mostly being dead, the following link is the mother load collection of almost all significant q3 movies made till date, but be cautious ..Russian stuff :P
i think trick movies and frag movies should be kept separate. ask someone here and he'll most likely vote for a frag vid. make the same poll on opc forums and the results would probably be different.
Frags made your move really great, it was amazing for me when I saw it for the first time. Editing was nice, however you could have pick some better music for it :)
Nonetheless great work.

I haven't seen every quake 3 movie made so I'm just going by the movies listed here.
frag content - just quake
editing - tricking it 2
innovation - annihilation
The badge 3 had some great music and nice visual effects, but was surpassed by tricking it 2. As for deception, wheeeee a movie of nothing but scripted jumps :|
That said, I think annihilation is the best since it combines good shots with some effects that don't completely remove the spirit of quake 3.
just quake easily out of that list - not sure why annihilation is rated so highly, it gave me a really shitty/newbie feeling. but there's really so many many awesome movies, you would spend a lot of time adding to that list of options
There was a great movie a few years ago, with heavy/thrash metal music (entombed etc). Think it was called made for quake or something? Can any one deny or confirm?
that... Clan noXis one... Was the best ever imo. superb display of a movie, and one that you can show people that never saw q3 before and they are like WOW.
just cant refrain from seeing its all staged... Staged stuff rarely shows what a game really is. But stuff that happens in actual games always been more appealing to me, show that in a nice way and you have a good showcase of a game.
My favorite has to be the WCG2002 highlight movie...
Just the over all feel that brings back of old memories. Old school styles displayed in the golden year of q3.
Will never forget the ass whooping Socrates received from Ph4ntom and cooller knocking out Zero4. Also people saying n1, nice and so forth a lot of respect everyone had for each other :(.
Do you have a mirror download for the video ? I think I've never seen that one...and we all know who uNkind was...I bet the video has one the most amazing frags out there...if anyone knows where to find that video, just call me... ;\
I'm looking for a great cpma movie made by sh4un and featuring the song "cemetery gates" by pantera (if I remember correcly), and still can't find it anywhere on the internetz.. Any one got the name of this movie and/or a working link?
