Is there any reason they couldn't run all three? (Not a rhetorical question, I don't know how tight the scheduling is etc.)

While i'd like to see all three (couldnt care less for CTF but i know others do), it might be too time consuming to get them all done in a long weekend. Especially as half the players from TDM would need to play CTF as well.

eh yday ctf & tdm in the lead, now duel & tdm... another boring lan i guess. lemme tell you the duel standings: rapha cypher cooller strenx.

and the TDM standings: toxic's team, noctis' team, some other team at third place which nobody cares about.

Doesn't necessarily make it less enjoyable. Even though I must admit that I stopped caring about duel, too.

Any yeah, CTF with EG coming over and 3-4 top European teams would be really cool imo, I don't think there would be a clear favorite.

I don't think it would be impossible for them to find a new sponsor, given their results at the last QCons. So when I said "EG", let's say I meant the players that used to play as EG. ;>

TDM is the best anyway, but i think CTF will looks more better for viewers, anyway, the last lan-CTF tournament was a long ago...and what about winter for CTF, summer for TDM(mad).

imo quake at it's best is in the team modes. should just drop duels already. amount of new top duelers that can challenge for best 5 spots is 0 anyway.

Same goes for the amount of potential TDM winners.

I would like to see some euro CTF action with EG going over. In the past many of the better euro CTF team's could not attend qcon for financial reasons and there CTF seen has always been a lot more active then the NA seen has. It would be interesting to see EG's performance over there.

duel is boring since there are always the same 4-5 people on top.
in my opinion teambased modes are more spectator friendly and not predictable like duel atm.

- spart1e lost to rapha 3-2 in quakecon's 2009 final
- dahang placed 2nd after cypher on DHW '10 Kaspersky QL tourney
- noctis placed 3rd at Dubai
- stermy had some top 4 placings (maybe better? can't remember)
- z4muz placed 2nd after av3k at DHW09 (after playing ql for only a couple of months)
- czm suprised us all with his form at last quakecon (placed 4th)

the names where selected and not randomly picked. All of them have achieved top placings and are capable of doing so again, depending on participation, practise, current form and luck, of themselves and their opponents.

Don't bother with duel, all the most recent duel events have been invite only, and I imagine this wouldn't be any different. It's the same people over and over at the top, not that there is anything wrong with that, but there's other things more deserving. For two years the euros had to come all the way to North America to play CTF, why not give them a chance there? This DH could be a big team mode event, CTF and TDM. Even if the duel event was open, you still can't overlook the fact that CTF has been missing in Europe for a while. I'm sure there's lots of euro CTF teams who would want to go :)

These polls are totally useless since tdmrs spam links to these in their communities / channels in order to get biased poll result to favour TDM, the fact is duel is the most entertaining mod and it should be main focus in each quake event.

IMO put 55% of total price pool on duel, 40% on TDM and 5% on FFA.

That's just a random poll, nobody from dreamhack ever asked me to do it. I was bored and made it, end of story.

entertainment value doesn't really matter when there's only a handful of people watching imo

or maybe tdmrs/ctfrs are more likely to support their game modes compared to the one dimensional duellers

You sound a little wounded... lost a poll or something recently? It makes sense make people aware of the poll?, this way we can get as much support for the game/mode as possible. People still have to make their own decision which they vote for.

everyone one knows, quake = duel from early begining..
But I don't see any problem to have TDM tourneys too.
tdm gametype is a lot different, from my pov it lose a lot of QUAKE stuff, that makes quake so superb. But ofcors tdm adds some new "stuff".
Why tdm CAN be more popular when duel, coz it's required less skill then duel, so who don't like to be owned in duel , picks tdm. Ofcors there is much players who just love tdm and don't like duel.

well i think your logic kinda fails cause there are lots of decent duel players that suck in tdm and ctf.

just to clarify, easily less than 5% of QL's population play duel constantly. It has always been like that and it always will be, including not only pub play but also local and international online tournaments; they just gather more players.

Where I want to go with this is that duel should be included in every event, and that is the gametype that should be advertised as far as e-sports go.
There are plenty of team-based games, but QL is the only currently developed game (lol) that features duel as a main gametype. It's the edge that this game has over the others, and the only reason why it's still featured in LAN events even when it's unpopular.

I have never been a duel player myself, since I've always liked team games the most, but watching duel (and COOLLER) is better than nothing.

quake has always been primarily about 1v1, in my opinion. but, that doesn't make TDM or CTF any less awesome.

personally, i'd like to see

1) duel
2) TDM (noctis pwning noobs)
3) CTF if possible (nothing like a good jap castles match with multiple players 60%+ rail... makes the flag caps all the sweeter)

duel is a must since it's the main reason why top players attend to these events.

Rapha, cooller, etc. stand no chances against noctis or tox's teams; financially it's just not a good idea to attend only for tdm, and sponsors wouldn't be attracted to finance that trip (or even their career if the next event doesn't include duel as well, considering there will be only 3 every year from now on).
On the other hand, the noctis and tox aren't contenders to take the duel tournament, but would attend to play tdm even without prize money or if duel isn't there.

Having TDM replace duel must be just a bad joke. TDM has got none of the things that duel has going for it as an eSport.

It lowers the significance of the great personalities in QL. Having a full team makes it harder to actually support professional play. It's hard to appreciate as someone who doesn't play and know how the game works. Watching the TDM this year was a pretty boring experience for the most part for me.

Well, I guess FPS duel is pretty weak right now anyway, I really hope it will come back as it is the gametype I love but watching the other duel, SC2, the difference in how many players could support themselves by playing is unbelieveable. I guess QL just happened to lose in this great lottery. If only those koreans had not had motion sickness from FPS (asian stereotype) and built their pro gaming on Q3 instead...

Actually, for casual play, Koreans play Special Force more than Starcraft, and it's basically just a total ripoff of CS. They have major tournaments for it, as well, but it's simply not as big of a professional game.

i used to play tdm for a decade and I made a slow transition to play duel. however, because I play duel now, I find that duel tournaments are much more interesting than tdm is. I usually "know" how it ends when the good teams play tdm against another. In duel its often harder to predict because the skill cap is closer. This is why it is so exciting imho.

plus, duel is a lot easier to follow. but tdm has also its perks: it is very easy to digest, its fun if you see an awesome quad run and it makes you want to play (: and for someone who does not play quake at all, I guess tdm is more beginner friendly than duel. also you will probably understand more - duel can be quite complex when the big boys play :D

They announced it will be TDM already, just not the prize money yet. Teams are already forming and practicing though.
