So, once again, I try my hands at beating a top tier opponent with my strategy. For a while, it looks as if I have an easy win. This replay features a reasonable back and forth battle with one side gaining late game domination and the other losing due to poor micro. Nevertheless, the game was exciting solely because it was against the #1 guy (according to EA rankings). Mind you, he's a terrific sport. Enjoy.

How to play back C&C3 demos


Excellent game with tons of action and some really good unit mixing from the scrin player. Quite a bit of back and forth action with a close ending. What's surprising is how far the Nod player got despite a much weaker economy. He never took his other expansion or the tib spike yet was still almost able to win. That speaks for the power of Scorpions with laser capacitors upgrade.

Ok, I'm done. Instead of a major overhaul containing new features, a new design, removing all (slowdown) bugs and providing a stable server the site gets plastered with another banner. I think I've been one of the longest active and loyal admin on this site but this is now over, I don't feel like being part of this charade any longer - not as admin, so that is why I demoted myself now. Downtimes, bugs, major contributors leaving, a Hexus guy supervising the content, annoying banners and a Sujoy that acts like he has abandoned the site and its admins. This is not how ESR used to be and that's sad. Honestly, right now, I see not future for this site and community and I'm not the only one with this opinion. Most of you probably don't care, but I've been long enough part of this to see how shitty things are right now. All in all it may look ok but it isn't. So GL ESR and all, I hope things will change to the better again!

As stated here this site is growing faster than popular YouTube did at launch. Now that is something, but really, could any blog ever be so interesting that enough people are going to visit it on a regular basis, click the ads and generate some revenue for the owner? Sounds cool but I doubt it will work. I heard dooce is very popular and Heather (the owner) does make an appreciable amount of money with it so I could be wrong, but honestly I think it's just a rare case in the world of bloggers.

Well, maybe I should create an account and rant about all the crazy stuff in the gaming scene, how CS sucks and so on and so forth... would you read it?

That's why I don't make my ESR themes and every other project IE compatible. Thanks to Mr. Thurrott who worded the matter so adequately.

Had some fun with 3ds Max yesterday and made a 3D version of the ESR logo. Modeling and texturing are both a bit inaccurate but I think the end result is good enough :-)

If I only had the money...

When going through the list of developed countries I realized that I never heard about the Japanese (PC) gaming scene before. Why is that? Surely the games that we play get shipped there as well, that can't be the reason. Maybe it's the language barrier and those guys don't post a lot on European/US sites or only have their Japanese communities.

Most likely they are more into console gaming but I don't know if there's a professional scene for console games. They have some talented overclockers for sure and the tech loving kind of people Japanese are, they actually ought to have a lot of talented people who spent endless hours with PC games and should be internationally known, not?

Well, perhaps I just haven't noticed them, hmm..

Normally I don't remember my dreams and I am pretty sure I never dreamed of any game or gaming related issue before. Nevertheless I remembered this morning and I swear my subconscious went crazy this night, here is what happened:

First thing I know is I'm talking my hot neighbour (about 30, red shoulder-length hair, slim, doesn't exist in real-life duh), I don't know about what, maybe I was just peeping at her, the next moment we're both in a public bath. While she is sitting at the side of the pool I decide to swim to the other side. When I'm there a woman followed by 2 men runs towards me telling me that a guy went missing, if I could search for him. I turn around, shout for a friend who I went to school with 10 years ago (haven't seen him since then btw duh) and we both and a few men are heading off. Suddenly we're on an open field, there's a road, reeds at one side, a cornfield at the other. Someone points to the reeds, shouting that he sees something and we all look. I realize it's a gigantic lindworm (I read a book about a lindworm about ~15 years ago duh) which has now detected us and starts approaching us. Everybody runs away in fear but I decide to only run a few steps and fake drop dead in the cornfield, telling myself if I don't move it won't find me and it's better than running away and shouting in an open area with a fucking superior lindworm behind me. Anyway, a few seconds pass and nothing happens. I then turn my head to the right and I see like 10 orcs runsacking the field searching for me or dead people, dunno. I realize I'm fucked since there are suddenly no crops in front of me anymore and I'm lying there pretty much exposed. One orc approaches me and just before he finds me a burning arrow strucks him and a few other orcs down. I look past his dropping body and see what looks to be a World of Warcraft raid group of about 15 to 20 people running towards me. The next second they have already passed me and are running further, likely to the lindworm. The view switches to 3rd person now and I'm a Tauren warlock or something. I'm casting a powerful spell, the projectile looks like the Doom3 antimatter orb and it flies across the field and explodes with a huge radius, much like the Redeemer I know of UT2004. I guess I killed everyone and everything with it. Scenery changes again, I'm in first person and I seem to be in a Doom1 level (I recognise the map and feel somehow secure/cosy duh) with 2 soldiers, one of them is a Tauren (wtf?) walking in front of me. We go past a corner, one soldier says "it's this way" and we start walking. END.

Freud would shoot himself now.

So there is a hot women and I'm distracted being all in my fantasy/first person shooter world of gaming? What the fuck, get me out of here!

I've started playing some Diablo2 again and it's really fun, especially online on BattleNet. Apart from the graphics and complexity this game is like a light version of WoW, if you take it down to the basic gameplay there's no difference. So if you have no money to buy a good computer and don't want to pay a monthly fee - here it is: WoW for the poor ;-)

Anyway, as some of you might remember all the areas in Diablo 2 are randomly created at each new start which gives it a good replay-ability although it can be very annoying sometimes. There are basic patterns for the level layouts but when it comes down to it every game has different maps.

So after entering a dungeon you are confronted with about 3 to 4 possibilities of where to go after a few steps. Now the crazy part: When I'm trying to get down to the lowest level I often (80% of all times that is) intuitively find the shortest way immediately! I don't believe this could be luck, as it happens constantly, it's really weird.

Contrariwise, the other 20% I run through a whole dungeon after finding the next staircase in one of the last few rooms I haven't entered yet - it's like reversed intuition, I don't know :-) It almost never happens that I find the way after a healthy walk halfway through the dungeon..

Has anyone else made that experience with Diablo / Diablo 2?
