The ESL just announced that SteelSeries will be sponsor of their Go4SC2 tournament series. The Go4SC2 tournament series started with the beta of StarCraft 2 and features two cups per week and a final cup every month. This Sunday the SteelSeries Go4SC2 Cup #27 will take place and the winner earn 200€ and important points for the monthly ranking. The top eight players of each month get invited to a monthly in which the winner gets 500€.

In the first Sunday Cup of the cooperation SteelSeries is also going to raffle three hardware bundles between all checked in participants. Each bundles contains the following SteelSeries products: SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse, a SteelSeries Siberia v2 Headset, a SteelSeries StarCraft II Limited Edition Zboard and a SteelSeries SteelSeries QcK Limited Edition (StarCraft II Tychus Findlay) mousepad.


The last Wednesday Cup had over 800 participants and 512 players checked in with six minutes, the aim is to beat that number for Sunday and make the first 1024 player StarCraft 2 cup.

ESL Go4SC2 Cup Series with 900€ Monthly (33 comments)

The ESL revived an old Warcraft 3 brand with the Go4 cup series. It was one of the most established cup series in the early days of Warcraft 3 and now it is back for StarCraft II with weekly cups and a monthly final.

Every Saturday will be a cup with 100€ prize money and at the end of the month will be a monthly final with win 500€. The monthly final will be always on Thursday after the last Saturday Cup of a month, so on the last or first Thursday of a month. It will feature the top16 players from the monthly rankings and it will be streamed on ESL TV. There also will be cups on Wednesdays, where you can win points for the monthly ranking, but no prize money.

The first monthly final will be streamed at 13:00 CDT, 1 April 2010 on ESL TV. And the first Go4SC2 cup will start at 08:00 CDT, 27 March 2010, check in will start at 07:40 CDT, 27 March 2010 (Sign up & try to get the 100€).

First ESL StarCraft 2 Tournament Over (72 comments)

Today ESL TV hosted the first ever StarCarft 2 Beta tournament. It was a small four player tournament, each match best of three and double elimination. The ESL was the first company to receive the Blizzard Tournament license to hold such tournaments and broadcast them. So expect many more to come in the following weeks. The tournament featured two StarCraft 1 players and also two Warcraft 3 players.

After several weeks full with cups and exciting matches the Intel GameOn Finals will kick off. The winner earns a Alienware m17x notebook, a trip to Cebit, Hannover, Germany and 150€ pocket money. Cebit the winner can follow the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship. Within the next few days ten players from ten different countries will face off to find out who is the best. Also find out which players won which countries and won nice prizes.


The group stage will be played best of three and the top two of each group will advance to single elimination playoffs, which will be best of five.

The Intel Extreme Masters Season 4 will see it's Asian Championship Finals played at the 2010 Taipei Game Show in Taipei, Taiwan. The Quake Live tournament will start at 20:30 CST, 4 February 2010 with first group matches. The first day of group matches will be broadcasted by Quake Live.tv, from day two on the games will be casted on ESL TV with United Kingdom 2GD and United Kingdom Joe.

IEM World Championships (352 comments)

Only four weeks left until the ESL Intel Extreme Masters World Championships will take place in Germany Hannover, Germany. Twelve Quake Live players from all over the world (6 from Europe, 4(1) from Americas, 2 from Asia) will fight over $20,000 prize money. The World Championships will be played in two groups of six players each, the top three of each group will advance to the playoffs. In the playoffs the second placed will face off against the third placed, while the first placed players will get a bye into the semi finals.


The World Championship Finals will take place from 2. March until 6. March and a detailed schedule about the event will be released soon. Next Friday the Asian Championships will start in Taipei with players like proZaC, Jibo and uNleashed. Full coverage will be posted later this week.

After Spain Spain who already has a ESL Pro Series (EPS) for Quake Live, Germany Germany will be the second country to feature a ESL Pro Series, which is the highest national league within the ESL and the direct qualification for the Intel Extreme Masters.

The German ESL Pro Series Season 16 will feature 16 players and a total prize money of 3 200€. There will be four qualification cups and the top four of each cup will qualify for the EPS.

Poland Carmac sits down with another fascinating individual, Netherlands Vo0, who also has comeback to play Quake Live in the Intel Extreme Masters. He came out of a tough group by taking maps from United States of America Chance and United States of America rapha to qualify for the American Championships in Edmonton, Canada this coming weekend.

In the interview Vo0 talks about being a Dutch in America and what he does there, but also about his chances to reach the top four and qualify for the Global Finals in Germany.
What advantages do you have over your opponents in Canada?
Being Dutch! I know I wouldn't like losing to someone not from my country if I were to play a national qualifier. :)

Honestly now, do you expect to qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship?
Yes that is my goal, and I expect to achieve it.

IEM US Regular Season - Final Day (14 comments)

Tomorrow is the final play day of the Intel Extreme Masters American Championship regular season. We are looking for another two players that will be directly qualified for the LAN finals taking place in Canada Edmonton on the 11th to 13th December. The top player of each group is direclty qualified for the Continental Finals America, the second and third placed players of each group will face up against second and third placed players from other groups in a relegation match on Sunday, 29th November. The winner of those relegation matches will join the offline finals as well.

Already qualified for the offline finals are United States of America dkt and United States of America rapha, United States of America DaHang will probably also reach the offline finals directly, because his last match vs. United States of America swooped will be forfeited due illness.

IEM Euro Championship Group Drawing (116 comments)

Tomorrow night on ESL TV at 15:00 CST during ESL TVs Quake Live Show the groups for the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship regular season will be drawn. From four seeding pools the players will be drawn into eight groups of four, from each pool only one player can be in one group. Also players from the same Nation or Clan can't be in one group. The top two of each of those groups will advance to the Intel Extreme Masters European Champion Finals, which will be played offline in LAN.

Update: The groups are now public and some more informations are available about the IEM4 Championship. The slot distribution for the Global Finals will be as following: Europe gets 6 slots, America gets 3 slots (+ rapha for Dubai) and Asia gets 2 slots. Also, the European Championship Finals will take take in Germany Cologne during the 23rd and 24th of January for Quakelive.

16 Invitees for IEM Euro Championship (91 comments)

Today the last six invited players for the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship were announced. Now all 16 invited players are set and the last 16 players to fill the 32 player regular season line up, can be established in Qualifier cups. Those 32 players will play for $13,200 prize money in the European Championship.


Those 16 players will be grouped together with 16 players from four qualifier cups into eight groups of four. From those eight groups the top two of each group advance to the offline finals.

The first qualifier Cup will start 13:00 CST, 4 November 2009 with probably 64 to 128 members, which will play in a single elimination bracket, with the first rounds being bo1, while in later rounds it will be bo3.

Tonight the second round of the ESL Intel Extreme Masters GameOn Cups will take place. And again players will fight to earn points for the final tournament, where they can win prizes and a trip to the Intel Extreme Masters World Championship in Hannover. The first cups featured players like Russia Cooller, Austria noctis, Belarus Cypher, France l1nkje and many more.

All Cups will start at eight o'clock local time and will feature up to 128 players in a best of three, single elimination bracket.

As announced yesterday the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship will have four qualifiers Cups with the top four of each cup joining the 16 invited players for a regular season with 32 players. Today the ESL announced the details about the qualification cups and also the first five invited players.


Here are the first five invites for the European Championship, the next five will be announced on Sunday and the last six will be announced on Tuesday.

The ESL just announced a change for the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship. They increased the number of participants from 16 to 32 players online and the top 16 will play in the offline finals instead of the top 8. That change also includes that now 12 players will meet in the World Championships in Hannover instead of 8.

That also means that the prize money for the European Championship is increased to $5,200 for the online group stage. The offline prize money stays at $8,000, that makes a total of $13,200 for the European Championship.

16 players will be invited directly, while another 16 players can qualify over four qualification cups. The top four of each qualification cup will join the Intel Extreme Masters European Championship.


The first five invites for the European Championship will be announced tomorrow.

The Intel Extreme Masters Challenge in Dubai will feature sixteen top players in Quake Live and the first part of the tournament will be a group stage with four groups with four players in each. Those four players will face each other in best of three matches and the top two of each group will advance to single elimination playoffs, which will be played best of five.

From each of the four seed pools one player will be drawn randomnly into on of the four groups. The drawing will be shown on ESL TV on 11:00 CDT, 13 October 2009.

Update 2: The groups are settled. Jibo and Cooller have been switched so the Group A will only get 1 player from Mousesports.

For the Intel Extreme Masters Challenge in Dubai, a total of $31,500 will be rewarded to the best teams and players in Counter-Strike 1.6 and Quake Live. But even better, both winners receive an auto-berth into World Championship at CeBIT 2010 in Germany for a chance to be titled as the world champion!

The winner of the Quake Live tournament will receive and auto-berth for the Intel Extreme Masters World Finals taking place in March 2010. The winner will still be able to participate in the regional tournaments to earn prize money and become Continental Champion.

The ESL just announced their 16 invites for the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Dubai from 17th to 19th October 2009, those 16 players will face each other in four groups of four players each and the top two of each group will reach the playoffs, which will be a eight player single elimination ko-stage. They also announced a change of prize money, because due the large amount of interest and sign ups the amount of players was increased from 12 to 16.


The ESL also unveiled the map list that will be used for the tournament, it will be: qzdm6, qzdm13, qztourney7, qztourney9 and ztntourney1.

Tonight the last qualifier for the Intel Extreme Masters American Championship will start and with it the last chance for players to qualify for the American Championship. Again 64 players in a single elimination bracket will battle for the last two slots. Tonight starting at 19:00 CST the first three rounds will be played, the remaining rounds will be played tomorrow, also starting at 19:00 CST.

Update: The final is not scheduled yet, we will update the news as soon as a date is available.


Streaming: The matches of Qualifier #4 will be streamed and broadcasted by Quake Live TV.

$6,500 Quake Live Tourney in Dubai (348 comments)

The Electronic Sports League is proud to announce that Quake Live will be part of the Intel Extreme Masters Global Challenge Dubai. The event will feature a 12 player (might be reduced to 8) Tournament with Quake Live players from all over the world fighting for a share of $6,500 prize money. The event will be held at the Gitex Shopper from 17th to 19th October. The tournament will be played on LAN Servers provided by id Software.


Also everyone interested in participation and flying to Dubai can apply on the ESL website until 08:00 CDT, 2 October 2009.

More details about the schedule and confirmed players will be released prior to the event in the next two weeks.

Tonight is the first playday of two in the Intel Extreme Masters Qualifier #2. All players will meet on mIRC #esl.quakelive. The tournament will feature around 50 players and the top two will be invited for the American Championship.

There is also good news for everyone who missed the sign up of the first cup, the qualifiers cups #2, #3 and #4 were expanded to 64 players, because the 32 slots were already filled yesterday. So now is you chance to still sign up to qualify for the Intel Extreme Masters.

Yesterday the Qualifiers for the Intel Extreme Masters Quake Live American Championship were announced and today it is time to announce all eight invited players. The American Championship will feature 16 players in four groups. 8 of them have to win a qualification tournament, the other 8 are more lucky by get invited directly.


On Monday we will know which two players will be the next to join those eight in the American Championship. More information can be found on the Intel Extreme Masters website or on ESL America.

Recently the ESL announced that Quake Live will be part of their Intel Extreme Masters Continental Championships. Today they revealed more details about the upcoming qualification tournament and the prize money. There will be four qualification cups and the top two of each cup will reach the American Championship, where they will be joined by eight invited players and fight for a total of $10,600 prize money. The complete tournament system can be found on the Intel Extreme Masters website.

Intel Extreme Masters embraces QuakeLive (125 comments)

Quake Live is now officially part of the Intel Extreme Masters Continental Championship Season. That means that there will be regional Quake Live Championships in at least Europe and North America for Quake Live. The tournament system for both regions is already announced, but it's still open if the the Quake Live tournaments will be completely online or will end together with World of Warcraft and Counter-Strike 1.6 in offline finals.

In both regions eight players get directly invite to the Continental Championship and the top two of four qualification cups will also go to each Continental Championship. The Continental Championship will be played in a system of four by four groups. The first player of each group advances directly to the Continental Finals, while the second one faces the third one of another group for a slot on the finals.

The official website says that the North American Championship qualification will start on September, 20th, so we can expect more details pretty soon.

The $1.000 Intel Extreme Masters Pro/Am Challenge on gamescom in Cologne will start tomorrow with 16 players, the players will play from gamescom on the ESL Intel Arena. The tournament will be single elimination and each match will be best of three, while the final will be best of five. The final match will be broadcasted at 04:35 CST Friday on ESL TV.

The Electronic Sports League just announced that the fourth Season of their Intel Extreme Masters will launch on the Gamescom in Cologne, 19th to 23rd August. The prize money purse for the fourth edition will be $500,000 and the Season will feature the following games: World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike 1.6 and Quake Live.

More Details about the Season will be released on Gamescom. The Gamescom is the first Global Challenge of at least six events during the course of the season. The kick-off event will feature three parts:

ESL Spring League Playoffs - Only 8 left (11 comments)

The ESL Spring League Playoffs are going into the hot phase, only eight players are left to fight it out. Four players have been still undefeated in the playoffs and will fight in the winner bracket semi-finals:

Germany smoke vs. Spain pizo (Matchdetails)
Netherlands Weirdsel vs. Sweden a1r-r41d (Matchdetails)

Both matches are scheduled for this Sunday.

In the lower bracket round 9 another four players hope to jump to the next round and avoid elimination. The following players will match up to enter the next round:

Netherlands draven vs. Ireland kRoNic (Matchdetails)
Sweden madix vs. United Kingdom HELL (Matchdetails)

Both matches have no dates yet, but it's estimated that they will be played this weekend as well.

The ESL just launched Quake Live on their ESL America section with a 1on1 Ladder and a 1on1 Opening Cup. They also announced that they will start team competitions soon in TDM, CTF and maybe even CA.

The Opening Cup sign ups will last until the end of May and matches will start in June, there are slots for up to 64 participants. The ESL has not announced the system yet, but it will be Double Elimination or a Groupstage with playoffs regarding on number of sign ups.

The default public rules will be used for the ladder and the opening cup, while the ladder will be best-of-1, the cup will be best-of-3. The map list should consist of qzdm6, qzdm13, tourney4, tourney6 and tourney7. The ESL has already a very active European section with over one thousand players and a lot of competitions running.

Update: You can now also vote on the mappool, the five maps with the most votes get to be in the maplist. The poll runs until 31. May, they last day of the opening cup sign ups.

ESL Major Series Season 4 with Quake 3 (32 comments)

The ESL just announced the fourth edition of their ESL Major Series, the ESL version of the Clanbase Eurocups. The newest edition will feature 14 games (ten team games and four duel games) and a total prize money of 17.250€. For the first time the EMS will feature a Quake tournament: Quake3 1on1. The Quake 3 tournament will have a total prize money of 750€. More details about qualification, rules and system will be announced soon.

ESL TV, the eSport Broadcasting channel of the Electronic Sports League (ESL) recently announced a new set of hosts for English casted shows. They will take care of broadcasting the upcoming Intel Extreme Masters Events, like the Global Challenge Los Angeles on the upcoming weekend. They will also broadcast the matches of the ESL Pro Series in the United Kingdom in Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4.

Starcraft ESL Major Series starts (19 comments)

Today the groups and schedule for the ESL Major Series in Starcraft were released. After four qualification cups the best twelve players will fight in four groups. The best two players of each group will advance to the playoffs. The tournament features some of the best European and North American Starcraft players. It will be also featured by a weekly ESL TV coverage (always Mondays at 13:00 CST) , which will be mainly in German, but some shows are planned to be in English as well. Replays of the matches can be found after the games on the ESL website and it’s obligatory for players to upload them.
