The signup deadline for the
DreamHack Winter 2013 Quake Live Tournament passed about 2 weeks ago. There were some unfortunate drop outs from the tournament. Sadly
p0ni,
Sl1p,
fire_bot,
pavel and
strenx. We've found some great replacements though.
brescia,
luukets,
no_il and
_gory, where all of them (as far as I know) make their first international lan debut.
As you can see there's one spot missing in low seed and we're working hard on finding a replacement. We have a name under discussion but we haven't received confirmation on his part that he can make it. We'll announce it as soon as possible though!

As the topic says, I'm out. This will be the last DreamHack Quake event for me ever. There's a few reasons but mainly because I won't be in Sweden for DHS14 or DHW14.
I'm really super happy to have been apart of the DreamHack crew for such a long time and I've met amazing people over the years, from crew to players, casters and spectators. That's the only reason I've been continuing to organize the events for this long.
Lets make this one last event worth to remember, ok? See you in 2 weeks! \o/
Just counted, this will be my 12th Dreamhack event, which means that I've been involved for the last 6 years.. Damn that's long.
Update: Thanks everyone <3

After the commotion caused
earlier this week when we decided to replace one of the maps in the pool. We decided to do something about it; we let the currently invited players have a vote about what to do with the maplist.
The players had two options:
1. Keep the current maplist as it is (Cure, Sinister, Furious Heights, Lost World, Blood Run)
2. Add toxicity and one more map to the current maplist
The votes are in and the results show that option 2 won (rather convincing). The players also suggested which map to add to the pool and the votes show that the last map will be
Aerowalk.

We've decided to change the current map pool for
DreamHack Winter 2013. Many of you have raised your voice asking for
Toxicity to be removed and
Blood Run to be added instead. After a lot of internal discussions and reasoning we've decided to change it because Blood Run is overall a better map and it's not as one sided as Toxicity can be.
Cure
Furious Heights
Lost World
Sinister
Blood Run
We chose to remove Toxicity instead of one of the new maps (Cure or Sinister) because we think that Quake Live needs a couple of refreshing maps to give newer players a chance to catch up and bring new blood into the game.

We're continuing to release players for the
DreamHack Winter 2013 Quake Live Tournament. This week we have 10 new names for the competition. In about 2 weeks we'll release 5 additional players and the week after the signups have closed we'll release the last 5 names. We are very excited that the tournament is slowly drawing closer. The sign ups are so far very impressive and there's a lot of new talent that wants to prove themselves on LAN!
We have now filled 22 of the 32 spots in the tournament. If you want to play make sure to apply for your spot today. The applications close at
Sunday the 3rd of November (3/11).

As of today we’re proud to announce the 12 first competitors for the Quake Live tournament at
DreamHack Winter 2013. With big names such as
Rapha,
Cypher,
Fraze together with some of the best European and Australian players this is shaping up to be one of the best Quake Live tournaments at DreamHack yet.
We have now filled 12 of the 32 spots in the tournament. The applications close at
Sunday the 3rd of November (3/11), so make sure to apply for your spot today. Next wave of players will be released in a couple of weeks. Together with the players we’re also releasing the maplist for the tournament.
Sparked by
Raphas idea of a tournament we’ve decided to change the tournament layout at DreamHack. To replicate Rapha's idea exactly would be very hard (with 32 players) but we decided to increase the group stage to 8 players in each group. This means that we’ll have 4 groups of 8 players where the top 4 in each group are proceeding to the single elimination stage.

As of today it's now possible to sign up for the
Quake Live tournament which will be held at
DreamHack in the end of November. Quake at DreamHack is a modern DreamHack esports classic and which we are very proud to be able to host once again. The tournament will feature 32 players who will battle for the
100 000 SEK prize purse. All the best matches will be live streamed in HD via Twitch. All games is played on tournament PCs in a tournament area and the final will be played on one of the DreamArenas.
The tournament structure will be slightly different compared to the previous versions of DreamHack. More infos regarding the tournament structure will be announced at a later stage.
The final question is: will the reigning DreamHack champion
evil from team 102.DeliberateMurder be able to defend his title?

Thanks everyone for one incredible
DreamHack Summer 2012! From my point of view this easily is one of the best Quake events at DreamHack yet. Huge thanks to
Zoot and
Calipt for the coverage on location. Thanks to all the streamers who streamed from home as well! Hopefully we can run Quake again this Winter, but right now it's too early to tell.
We collected the demos and configs from the weekend, and they're now
available. Thanks to
Trance for the hosting.
Unfortunately there's some demos and configs missing, but the most of them are there. We've been able to collect all configs from the playoffs, except Weirds config.

Fade went to DreamHack Winter 2011 with a few different things in mind. He of course wanted to play for a bit but also he wanted to make a documentary about DreamHack. As he wrote in
this thread about a week before the event started he will be doing interviews with all the involved with Quake Live at DreamHack: players, streamers, staff and fans.
But as he said himself: "I want to show you guys who are not at LAN or have ever been to one, whats it's like there and what goes on at theses events."
Last night he released a
trailer! Make sure to check it out and also catch the real deal when it's out in January 2012.

After a very successful DreamHack Winter 2011, at least from my point of view, with so much awesome quake action and very good coverage thanks to the very hard work from the
Level Up TV crew with
Disrepute and
nVc doing most of the casting and keeping you guys updated.
With this being said, the demos are now on the web! All demos (well, most...), both TDM and Duel can be found
on
Trance's FTP.
An alternative mirror will be added soon enough!
Update: During the event when the LAN server broke down (hardware failure), we managed to get our server-guy together with id Software to debug the Swedish Quake Live servers and they sorted out the lag issues that have been occurring on the servers.
Update2: We now have an
alternative (French) host with demos sorted. Demos links were added on the
DHW11 coverage post for all matches.
Update3: Dreamhack.se host live (with .rar)

With less than 1 day left before the DreamHack Winter 2011 Quake Live tournaments start we unfortunately had no choice but to remake the schedule and groups based on circumstances we couldn't ignore.
One team dropped out of the TDM tournament:
nEuCtion.
Insan3 couldn't make it to DreamHack either because of the Portuguese air companies went out on a strike today. Which leaves
/
Aus Portugal with 3 players, but I'm crossing my fingers for that they sort it out when getting here. Our plan is that
draven can take his place, but unfortunately I haven't been able to get in contact with him to confirm.
With that being said we're going to delay the start of the TDM tournament with a few hours, note that we also changed the order the groups will play in. This will also allow us to free up some time to cover even more duel games!
Thursday
16:00 TDM: Group B
18:00 TDM: Group D
22:00 TDM: Group C
Friday
10.00 TDM: Group A
12:00 TDM: Quarter Finals 1 / 2
14:00 TDM: Quarter Finals 3 / 4
16:00 TDM: Semi Final 1
17:00 TDM: Semi Final 2
20:00 DUEL: Group Stage
Saturday
10:00 TDM: Bronze Game
12:00 TDM: Grand Final
15:00 DUEL: Quarter Finals 1 / 2
16:00 DUEL: Quarter Finals 3 / 4
17:00 DUEL: Semi Final 1
18:00 DUEL: Semi Final 2
19:00 DUEL: Bronze Game
21:30 DUEL: Grand Final
With the dropout of
nEuCtion we had to redo group B since it left
Kittylovers alone in their group. We swapped out
Senzabraccia to group B.

With DreamHack Winter 2011 just around the corner it's time to wrap all the infos and get it out there. There's been some switching around with line ups and unfortunate drop outs but we've managed to sort it out nicely so far.
Amai was unable to go because of visa issues. Since he qualified through the second ZOTAC qualifier it's natural for us to pick the follow up from the same qualifier:
twister. A few members of
deliberate murder had trouble on going as well, but their captain
cooke still managed to get a hold of a few other players. Check their updated line up below.
If the amount of teams change drastically before the event we will redo the seedings and groups.

With less than two weeks left before the DreamHack Winter 2011 kicks off with two awesome tournaments it's time to announce all the players and teams attending. Seeds for the duel tournament will be released together will the final TDM update next week. The sign up time for TDM has yet not expired, so if you want to go don't hesitate to send in an application before Wednesday (17/11).
The last duel spots will go to
Insan3,
madix,
dem0n and all the way from Australia
Ventz. I think it's also noteworthy that the grand final for the duel tournament will be played in the brand new DreamHack AMD SAPHIRE Arena. Which will be inside the hockey arena just next to the DreamHack venue. The Quake Live Duel final will be played just before the StarCraft 2 final, so I expect all the 4 000 seats to be filled!
Currently we have 6 TDM teams signed up, but I expect us to get around 10-12 teams until the sign up time runs out.

DreamHack can together with the two sponsors ZOTAC and Plantronics finally present all the details of our Quake Live TDM tournament: DreamHack ZOTAC Championship. Last Summer DreamHack proudly hosted the first Quake Live TDM tournament in a very long time. With the great success and high quality of the tournament it was an easy choice to go with Quake Live TDM again for this DreamHack.
“Quake Live is the ballet of eSports, it’s an art and a sport, a experience that tickle all your senses. It feels great to have both Plantronics and ZOTAC in this project and support one of the most dedicated communities out there.” said Fredrik Nystrom, Press Officer at DreamHack.
“This year we’ll only host a TDM-tournament, but we’ll add some duel to it – at the new DreamArena in the ice hockey arena we’ll host one showmatch in duel with 20 000 SEK on the line. We want to show the world of eSports that Quake Live still is a great spectator game.” said Tomas Hermansson, Head of eSports at DreamHack.

The Tournament rules regarding Quake Live at Dreamhack Summer 2011 have now been announced. This includes both the classic duel tournament and the new TDM tournament.
There's still some gaps to be filled though, Prize pool is being one of the last major factors. To kill all the rumors, there will be a cash prize pool so don't worry. It will be official as soon as it's decided.

The Swedish e-sport site
Rakaka is on site in Kiev and had the opportunity to sit down with a few of the Quakers.
Hellspawn sits down with
strenx and
Cypher and asks them how they feel about going at it in Kiev, their current skill level and a bit of the future of Quake.
Strenx: "On lan I feel comfortable, I play the same at I would in Zotac. I'm not afraid to do a thing that I would do, for example in Zotac to try some things, Risky maybe. On lan before I was really afraid.."
Cypher: "I am more calm in the game, I am more sure in myself and more confident versus everybody I play. It really helps me a lot because I'm not afraid to lose."
For those interested there's an interview with
Spart1e (unfortunately in Swedish) at rakaka as well.

Tell me if there's missing any other demos.
I know that Vo0's demos from the kasperskys tournament is lost, because of someone resetted quake live before I had the chance to collect the demos.
some of k1llsens demos are missing because apparently there's a bug that prevents autorecording at times ( that's what k1llsen told me..)

About a month after the launch of #cpmduel at quakenet they arranged their first duel tournament this weekend.
The tournament itself went on very smoothly where almost everyone involved were happy with it. The ones who weren't happy about it was
buxter who played in the winner bracket-final game versus
eThaD. eThaD beat him in two straight maps and threw him into the loser brackets where he got knocked out.
eThad at Dreamhack Winter 2008
A few hours after the cup was finished a demo was published on
challenge-tv.com where the poster "QuakeSuperHero" accused eThaD of using wallhack.
While watching the demo he think he caught eThaD at least 29 times where he's had to have wallhack. (note that a CPM duel is 10min).
Some parts of the CPM community has turned against eThaD and some support him in this. The discussion at challenge-tv.com has started where it seems like most people thinks he cheats.
ethad seems to counter this very calmly and not doing anything until buxter wants to have a chat at irc.
Wallhack or not? Discuss!
edit:
Statement by buxter
<buxter> frankly, i don't care about this whole mess, it wasn't me who started it, i gave my opinion with explanation, controversial as it might be but still only my point of view, and nothing more, certainly not proof of QUakeSuperHero thesis.
Actually it's this QuakeSuperHero that's the bad guy, not buxter. Pardons to buxter!

When Dreamhack Winter 2009 is just days away the seeds have finally been made and released for both Quake Live and Quake World.
Unfortunately a few players dropped out of the tournament. PURRI and bodzo couldn't make it of various reasons, time and money being the major ones. They were replaced by the players who were next in line: the former Dreamhack Quake admins
Dronar and
SobriuS.
ZeroQl had troubles getting a visa and was replaced by the runner up in the Serbian QL Qualifier:
rmd!
Åke Vader and
lakso couldn't make it to the Quake World tournament either. Åke Vader because of work and lakso because of school. Both of them were replaced by the players next in line:

Together with the seeds and groups the full rules have been added for both games. Most notably is that QL uses the "ESWC-style" for picking maps (both players remove one map each before picking maps) and QW uses regular map picks (requested by the community).

Update: Grand finals was played between Jitler Hugend and Team Zissou in a very exciting 3 map game. Cocaine, alley and wbomb1 was the maps, where JH dominated the first map but then had a tough time in the upcoming two maps. Zissou managed to get two straight maps and therefore won the cup!
Congratulations Team Zissou for the first Bomb and Defuse-title! Demos can be found on
ESR.
The groupstage was played best of 1, but as we proceed to the playoffs the teams will instead play best of 3, single elimination.
1. Team Zissou Points:10
2. rndm Points: 8
3. BoomstickOwnator Points: 4
4. ProfoundVelocity Points: 4
5. PlaymateZ* Points: 4
6. astro Points: 0
1. Jitler Hugend Points: 10
2. Lost in Nirvana Points: 8
3. rawr Points: 6
4. "Wolle" Petry Points: 4
5. BisEinerFlennt Points: 2
6. Banana Warriors Points: 0
2 teams from each group will proceed to the playoffs. Group A is finished and Group B have a few games left to do. So from group A we'll see Team Zissou and rndm take on, as it seems now, Jitler Hugend and Lost in Nirvana from group B.
To watch make sure you join warsow-tv at tv.warsow-esport.net:44400. My guess is that the playoffs will start in about ~30min (~19.30 CSET), but there's matches going on all the time. So don't hesitate to join and watch!

After about a week after the release of Warsow 0.5 the tourney admin
Uz, arranges the first team based cup! Uz is the admin for
Bolted, a Warsow tourney site that's been hosting a lot of different competitions over the years. Their aim has been mainly duel cups, but after the huge success with implementing "Bomb and Defuse" mode in Warsow he decided to give it a go.
Bomb and Defuse is a round based mode where one team has to defend two different bomb sites from the attacking team. The attacking has to plant a bomb which will destroy one of these bomb sites. This cup will be played over one day only, so it's a good opportunity to give the game a try!
Date: Sun 6th Sep 2009 - 16:00 CEST
Check-in: 15:00 CEST
Game: Warsow 0.5 which can be downloaded free from
here.
Mode: Bomb and Destroy
Mappool: WBomb1, WBomb2, CWBomb1, Cocaine_b2, Alley
Settings:
- Scorelimit 10
- Roundlimit 9
- Bombtimer 25
- Best of 3
- In case of a tie, the final map is chosen by elimination, starting with the team that wins a cointoss.
More specifc rules can be found
here.

After about 2 months after the start of the 2009 2v2 Quake 3 CPM tournament we've got the Grand Final coming up. We started off with 20 teams where most were from Europe, but we had a team who joined us from USA. During the tournament we've seen a lot of good game and tight maps.
The two teams who's going to compete in the finals are:
Bulgaria vs Sweden1 HAL9000, Nzr0, grF
fluff, funnyb, Reptile
Game will be played 22.00 CEST, so get your ass to gtv.cpma.se and spectate!
Bulgaria walked out on top of their group with opponents such as
Poland
Russia 2. They had one game going to three maps in the groupstage and that was against
Poland where they won with 2-1 in maps. During the groupstage had two pretty tight games against two of the Russian teams where both games went to three maps. Bulgaria walked out of both games on top.
Sweden1 was the favourites of this cup and I think everyone expected the team to easily reach the finals. The groupstage was basically a walk in the park where they easily won over
Russia 1,
Germany 2 and
United Kingdom.
The playoffs didn't differ much from the groupstage where they faced of
Denmark 1 and took the win rather easily.
Sweden 1 were to face off
Sweden 2 in a local derby but unfortunately
Sweden 2 couldn't make it to the game and
Sweden 1 won with a walkover.
My personal prediction for this game is that we're going to see
Sweden 1 as the overall winner with them walking away with a 3-1 mapscore. I think that if
Bulgaria can pull their game together and keep track of that quad damage this could turn out to be an exciting final!

First of all, on behalf of the
#cpmpickup-team I'd like to say sorry! This has taken us way too long to finish.
This mapping contest was an initiative by the admins of #cpmpickup because we felt that the community needed new maps that was actually made for CPM in mind.
The entries we had is:
zrC made a sweet fast map with a really good flow named Concrete (can't find the link for it now) but it got dropped rather early on.
Sims entered with his map
Silent runner which is a complex map aim made with ctf in mind. It could work out well considering it's almost the opposite of the fast maps we're playing today.
Fjoggs did manage to get 3 maps into this mapping-contest.
With his now rather old map
Clobberedseal. This map was actually made by both Fjoggs and
voodoochopstiks where they came up with the layout together. As most of Fjoggs maps it's made with NTF in mind. I would say that the map is a quite aim-heavy map since the mid is fairly easy to control and the paths are quite small.
Fjo3Ctf2 was the map he spent least time with. It's a rough layout and wasn't that accepted by the community so he decided to drop it in a quite early stage and spend time with his other maps instead.
Fjo3Ctf1 was the map that he spent the most time with. It's fast, with a mid that's allows for lots of potential trickjumps and ways to fool the enemy. It's made with NTF in mind as well. The map has a rather unique set of power ups with Quad in the middle and one Haste in each base.
The winner is.... Fjo3Ctf1. This map has been accepted by the community and been provided with loads and loads of gameplay changes to improve the playability. Fjoggs has listened to each and every one and improved the map greatly over the months the competition lasted.
Congratulations Fjoggs and really good work! (Contact us about the prize and we'll work it out!)
Feel free to drop by in
#cpmpickup and test the maps with us!

So the first two weeks we'll see a lot of games! Each team will play 3 games during these two weeks. So it's time to start scheduling.
As usual tell me or ethad ASAP when you scheduled the game. It's close to impossible for us to run this event otherwise.
(Since every group has 5 teams one team has to sit out every round. That causes that some teams will just have to play 2 games these weeks)

Players contact each other using IRC (A players irc nick must be the same as his registered nick). The official channel of the tournament is #cpm.nations . So, we are really bored of game delays and kicking captains' asses. This time if you wont schedule your game before stated date, you will get w/o loose. If both teams are inactive, they will get w/o lose. After getting 2nd w/o team is removed from the cup.
Map pick:
Teams flip a coin (/cv random 2). Winner chooses who takes the 1st map. The chosen team picks a map first, then the other team picks. (Picks must be made before the first game). If the result is 1:1, the team with the most frags from both maps chooses who drops a map first. The last remaining map is played. After the game send a message with the results (maps and scores) to the head admin.

Last night the grand finals between Sweden and Poland A. Sweden managed to take home that win with 3 straight maps. Poland put up a really good fight, especially at their own map pick cpm21. The other two maps could Sweden take home quite easy through really solid play and map control.

We're finally getting down to serious business.
Sweden vs
Icemark @ Thursday 21:00 CET
United Kingdom vs
Poland A @ Sunday 22:00 CET
I asked
djWHEAT to shoutcast the semi-final games. The days he could do some shoutcasting is from Wednesday to Sunday, so that's the days you can pick to schedule the game. Since none of you settled for a date I don't think this should be a problem. As usual, tell me when you scheduled the game
RIGHT AFTER YOU SCHEDULED IT!
The really strong team of Sweden will face off the joined nations Iceland and Denmark.
I think that Sweden will win this one in 2 straight maps, they played each other during the group stage and Sweden managed to win that one convincingly with 2:0 in maps. Although I doubt that Icemark will let the win go easily, they've got some high skilled and really good aim at their team and will use that to counter the Swedes.
United Kingdom and Poland A will face off in the other semi-final. I think this game will be really interesting and the predictions pretty hard. Poland A consists of some of the old schoolers of Poland with the addition of the vq3er v3rb. I'm expecting crazy aim and some nice team play from the Polish team.
The UK team has some wide spread skill and knowledge of the game, with the powerhouse ddk in the front.
I'd say this game goes 2:1 to Poland A, but depending on the lineup from UK that could as well turn to 2:1 in the favor to UK.
As always, you can find the updates first at the
tourney site or at irc (
#cpm.nations)
Update: Unfortunately djWHEAT couldn't make it for the Sweden vs Icemark game tonight, but he confirmed that he will be here at Sunday when United Kingdom and Poland A is playing!
