mouse acceleration advice request (28 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 23:26 CDT, 26 August 2018 - iMsg
Been playing without mouse acceleration for 15 years.

But recently (most likely due to my extremely advanced age), I find myself having pains/aches in the underarm. The hand and wrist are fine.

I'm at the point where I'm considering having to quit FPS games entirely.

So, I was thinking switching to using mouse acceleration would, at the very least, have me use my underarm a lot less.

I watched tox play on Twitch. He does very little movement with his hand, and seems nearly never to move his underarm.

I'm thinking using acceleration might extend my FPS gaming 'career' another decade.

So, here the question:

Which acceleration values would you recommend I start with?

I have no idea where to start. I messed around with it today... Holy fek, I couldn't even move around the map, regardless which settings I used.

To those of you who play QC with acc, could you please share which values you have set these at:

Mouse Sensitivity:
Mouse Acceleration:
Mouse Acceleration Offset:
Sensitivity Cap:

Also, do you change Mouse Yaw and Pitch?

Thanks!

multiplayer browser games (20 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 15:34 CDT, 26 August 2018 - iMsg
A mate of mine had to downgrade his PC, so it now only will run very low spec games. Only has Intel chip graphics, 4Gb RAM etc.

But we'd still like to play some games together.

So any suggestions for some decent online games that require very little CPU/GPU power? Possibly browser games etc.

Don't really have a preference in terms of genres. But we'd like to play some sort of co-op, preferably against real, other humans (and not zombies/bots).

Thanks.

Has the population increased in this game, with the success of Shitnite?
People are forced to use the same, sucky launcher as the one with UT4, right?

Or is it still only the same 30 people, only playing shitty Elimination?

older single-player games suggestions (66 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 22:20 CDT, 18 April 2018 - iMsg
I'm confined to a 2009 laptop [which was on a budget then already] currently.

It doesn't have a designated GPU. But instead the "Intel graphics" rubbish.
So, in other words, a pretty shitty laptop.

I'm looking for suggestions for older games to play on it.

So far, I've played the Enhanced Editions of Baldur's Gate I & II, as well as Icewind Dale, which were absolutely wonderful.

I like games like The Settlers, Civilization, Colonization, Baldur's Gate [obviously], Anno, Master of Orion, Reunion [my all-time fave game] etc etc.

Any suggestions for games made in the period from, say, 2005 to 2012? I don't think newer games will run on this.

I'm only looking for single-player games, as I just want to chill out and not get dangerous blood pressure spikes by playing QL or anything online on this laptop.

Thanks.

Sadly, I found out that there were so few players playing QL that I could only find one FFA game in peak hours.
Outside of peak hours, all there was was shitty CA and even shittier FT.

What's the situation in QC? Is it possible to find FFA games easily?

I don't want to fork out the €30 only to find out its just as dead as QL.

Back then, we needed the 'mousefix.reg' and similar to stop acceleration in games.

Is this still needed today with Windows 10?

I want to play UT4, QC and PUBG.
UT4 doesn't have raw input - don't know about the two other games.

any decent racing games for the pc? (32 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 22:16 CDT, 5 May 2017 - iMsg
I loved the old Gran Turismo (1 & 2) on the PlayStation.
I don't own a PS, and do not plan on getting one.

What I really enjoyed the most with GT, was buying some cheap car, then spend hours, days, weeks earning enough credits to buy upgrades, in the form of turbos, better tires, better brakes etc.
I loved pimping the same car for weeks.

Then I tried Forza for the Xbox360. It was quite similar to GT, but I felt I had a billions cars and a billion tracks/races. I was in a new car for every race. I missed the scenario from GT, where I had the same 2-4 cars that I had spent weeks on upgrading/pimping - and never needed more. I never felt a 'connection' to the billion cars I had in Forza, if that makes sense.

Is there anything for the PC currently that would offer a similar experience?

AFAIK, Project Cars and Assetto Corsa don't have car upgrades. They are more 'pure' and realistic (nothing wrong with that. I'm just looking for something slightly different)

I guess that only leaves Forza Horizon?

Any suggestions?

Cheers.

PS: Fuck M$ for charging almost twice as much for the PC versions of Forza, compared to the Xbox versions. Get fucked!

G400 with Drivers (2 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 21:40 CST, 10 November 2012 - iMsg
What's th latest of the Logitech drivers re. how 'damaging' they are to install, when you like to have everything squeeky clean [accel fix etc etc]?

Reason I ask is I need to use those three small buttons near the mousewheel for weapon binds. AFAIK the only way to do this is to install the Logitech drivers, as software like x-Mouse Control won't work with those three small buttons.
Even if it will, the G400 will still be switching DPI every time.
I need to replace the DPI switches with keystrokes.

So, can I safely install the latest Logitech drirvers, and just make sure to uncheck the 'use setpoint implementation' thing?

Thanks.

[possible]Warning about Artisan pads (23 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 08:26 CDT, 19 September 2012 - iMsg
So I've been using the Artisan Shiden-Kai XSOFT, strawberry colour, for months now.

Been extremely happy with it....... until yesterday.

Yesterday, I halfed my sensitity from 12cm@360° to 24cm@360°.
That's when I realised this pad is not built for speed.

I not only get negative acceleration, but also skipping when turning fast now.
This happens with Razer DA, Logitech G400 and CM Storm Spawn. The G400 is the one that copes best with it. But I still find it unplayable.

The same mice perform flawlessly (well, the DA & G400, anyway) on other pads like Puretrack Talent and Icemat.

Now I'm wondering if everyone with this (and other Artisan) pad have the same issue. Or did I just blow it by getting the strawberry coloured one?

Any Artisan users out there who want to chime in?

Thanks.

I'm using Windows XP 32-bit with an Intel H67 chipset, tested in Quake Live, Unreal Tournament & Unreal Tournament 2004.

Intel H67 Chipsets & G400 (2 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 05:07 CDT, 21 May 2012 - iMsg
Hello,

A while ago, I read that people were getting inconsistent USB polling rates with mice over 125Hz with this chipset under WinXP.

For that reason alone, I installed Win7 for my gaming PC, which has the H67 chipset.

But I'm getting absolutely abysmal frame rates in games like UT2004 (and to some extend QL) in Win7.
Even my old PC from 2005 would give my better frame rates than this modern PC does. I'm sure its down to Win7 somehow.

Question: Can anyone tell me if they are getting constistent USB polling rates with their Logitech G400 under Windows XP, using a H67 chipset?

Of course, I could just install XP to test it. But it would be nice if I could avoid a whole afternoon's work. :p

FOV in QL (21 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 20:09 CDT, 13 May 2011 - iMsg
Hey,

Does QL calculate FOV differently than most other FPS games?

I tried setting the same FOV in UT, UT2004, CoD4, CoD2 and QL.

They all feel and look the same - apart from QL.

A FOV of 100 in QL, feels and looks more like 120-130 in UT/UT2004.

I want to use the same FOV and mouse sens in all the games I play (UT, UT2004 & QL). But QL is doing me in.
It definitely doesn't look or feel like the same FOV as in the other games, despite setting it to the same number.

I tried switching between r_aspectRatio 0 and 1. This didn't seem to help.

I'm on a 16:9 monitor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Easy way to test:

- Now do the same in the area of the mat you do not use the mouse on (probably on the top end of the mat).

Grip Coating for Mice (44 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 07:44 CDT, 19 March 2011 - iMsg
Hello,

So I have this Deathadder, which I'm actually fairly fond of, shape wise - and also sensor-wise.

But the coating material this mouse has makes me sweat like nothing else before.

Its literally like holding a small waterfall i my hand!
The whole thing is bathed in sweat, only seconds into holding it. And its still winter here. God only knows how bad it will get in the summer.

I have never had sweat issues with other mice I've had. Very strange.

Anyway, any suggestions as to what I could do to alter the surface so it doesn't make make my hand sweat like this?

In the past I used suede leather to cover some of the mice I've had.
However, this is not a good option (for me) in the case of the DA. The DA will simply become too bulky with this rather thick layer of leather on it.

The DA is not too large for my hands. But that extra layer would make it just a bit too large.

Someone mentioned "Plasti Dip". How does that compare when we're talking sweaty hands?

Any other alternatives?

I tried to get the Black Edition, but could not find it. :(

Probably some sort of water-based silicon wax. But I don't know anything about chemicals.

Can this monitor be purchased without that stupid mouse/pad combo?

I feel like I'd be paying over price for that pad and mouse I have no use for.

Everywhere I've looked, it has that mouse/pad combo with it - and that big price tag...

On a side note, anyone here have this monitor?
How does it perform in fast games like Quake and Unreal?

When you see these 'pro' players that are promoting this screen, you think "well, it must be alright for gaming, then".
But then you find out the game they play is slow-ass Camper-Strike. A game that puts nearly no strain on the monitor (and mouse), compared to Quake.

So, a CS nerd telling me its the greatest screen ever really means nothing to me. I'd like to hear from some players that play fast games like Quake.
I hear there's still slight ghosting?

And, yes yes, don't bother with replies like "CRT > all", "just get CRT!" etc. I know CRT is still king. But when your CRT is so blurry you can hardly read text on white background, it's simply time to give up. Can't find any decent used ones anyway.

Deathadder Acceleration (64 comments)
Posted by McFly @ 09:33 CST, 18 January 2011 - iMsg
Hello,

First of all I'd like to thank everyone who helped me pick a new mouse in the other thread that I posted.

I ended up with the DA 3.5g. [was a close race between the DA and the Zowie EC2, but 'prediction' is what swayed me at the end]

I seem to be unable to fully disable acceleration with this DA mouse.

I've ticked the "enchance pointer precision" off in the Windows Mouse Properties thing (I'm using XP 32-bit).
I've even applied the old CPL mousefix.reg thing.

When I go into the Razer driver, the acceleration is stated as "On". I can't change it there (not sure you have to be able to do so).

I set the acceleration bar at 1. When I'm in game, I still feel slight acceleration. :(

I've flashed the DA to the latest firmware.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

- Must be LED optical mouse (no laser mice)

- Should have thumb buttons á la Logitech MX5xx

- Should have 1000Hz polling rate

- Should have soft buttons. I'm looking for buttons (the primary left/right ones) that are so soft that they will click by just looking at them. :)

Is there any mouse out there that kinda would live up to my demands?

Thanks for any input.
