Hey guys.
Haven't posted on ESR for ages. Some people might remember me from the pre-QC era.
Anyways, as I bought a laptop for the first time in my life, I'm getting rid of my desktop.
My monitor is a Samsung Syncmaster 2233RZ (22", 120Hz).
You think I still can get some € for this lovely 11-year-old? I was happy with it, but I can't estimate the value. It doesn't have HDMI strangely enough.
Any advice would be appreciated.

have you guys heard of this? It's run by a 'famous' belgian 'Athene' (Chiren Boumaaza), who played WoW and is/was a poker player. It hasn't started yet, and they still allow applications! €1000 to enter this project; classes 4 days a week, 3/4 hours a day =). The program includes such subjects as 'Gaming & Game-Related Strategies', 'Problem-solving', 'Social Dynamics', etc.
He also released a
documentary about neuroscience and social psychology last week.

How's ql these days? Any important game updates since the beginning of march? Haven't seen any new maps played in the Eurocup tdm, but what's going on in 1on1? Any new stars that I should know of? Oh please inform me!

So today I switched from XP to Win7, and quake 2, 3 and Quakelive all have issues with gfx and opengl it seems. I can play q2 and q3 in high res (in q3 up to r_mode 8), but not in full screen. In q3 I can kinda go fullscreen, but I still have black bars left & right.
When I go fullscreen in ql, the game starts to act crazy, with heavy flashing and the window losing focus (cursor and taskbar visible). But if I keep on clicking to regain focus, the game turns out ok after a few seconds, and I can play like before.
Other games, like CoD4 and Trackmania, work fine. Cod4 works in my normal (native) resolution 1680x1050, on 120hz.
I'm running a Nvidia GTX 275 (Lightning) card on a Intel i7 2,67Ghz processor. Monitor: Syncmaster 2233RZ.
I tried to downgrade the gfx drivers (3 times, from 260.99 back to 257.21), but that didn't help.
Any advice anyone?

For a while I've been looking out for an LCD monitor (I still use CRT's). I've read some good things about Viewsonic & Samsung monitors with low ms, as well as the latests on 120hz LCD's. The Samsung 2233rz came up quite a lot on ESR, being a monitor with both low ms & able to get 120hz.
A guy on the site said it's best to wait a couple of months before buying, because by then some new (&better?) 120hz monitors will be available. But today I saw the 2233rz (22", 120Hz, 16:9, 1680*1050) priced for €199, which makes me doubt once more. You guys think that's a good price for such a monitor?

So anyway, I have a Sennheiser HD215 headphone, a Creative Inspire 280 Speakerset (2.0), and a quite old Creative SB Live! soundcard. Now the thing is, I don't use my headphones often, not for gaming anyway, and people keep telling me I'm nuts not to, with such a quality headphone available. Now I don't know what causes it, but when I play q3 I feel like players movement are coming from everywhere; like on dm6, when I'm on the RL platform and I hear the opponent closeby, it seems I can't hear if he is on the same platform, or on the level below. Very annoying, and that's why I'd rather play without my headphones. Does my soundcard causes this, and do I have to get a new one, or do I need to change some setting? I've tried the headphones on both my onboard card & the older pci one, with the same result.
And if I plug my headphones in my speakers rather than my sound card, would this cause any loss in quality/performance also?

present yourself shortly:
My name is Richard Gansterer and I'm also known as noctis. I'm 21 years old. I live in Bezirk Neunkirchen and I work in Vienna as System administrator. In my free time I like to play q3.
Since when do you play quake?
I tried it for the first time in 2000, but my online career began in 2006.
You also played quake 4. Why don't you play this game any more?
It simply doesn't answer my expectations. At first I liked it, however it got patched 'to death'.
What was your reaction when quake 3 was announced as a game for this year's ESWC?
I was very pleased about that, as it is the game I like to play in my spare time.
How did you prepare for the National Final
I didn't only qualify/train for the National Final in Austria, as I got invited to the ESWC Masters in Paris from 4 to 6 july. I regularly played online in order to keep myself in shape. Daily some games, simply to stay at that level.
Have you taken time off to prepare optimally for the upcoming Masters tournament?
I have one day on monday. Tuesday & wednesday I need to work, and then it will start soon. The tournament already starts early on friday.
What are your expectations for the upcoming Masters tournament?
1st of course. (laughs)
No, surely not. I would be happy to reach top8 and even more happy with every place higher up.
And then for the Grand Final in August?
Very similar, whereas the level is higher at the Masters tournament. After all you can only get invited for that one.
What does your training schedule looks like until the big Finals?
The regularity is important and to remain active, that should do it.
To come back shortly about this event: How much did you like the location?
It's my first nur48stunden. I didn't really participate the lan-party itself, as I was fully concentrated on the ESWC Qualifier. The monitors weren't really great for quake, but I got used to them quite well.
Do you actually go to LAN-partys?
Not any more for a long time. In the past I often went to several events. The reason is simple: The activity of Quake3 in austria is not high at all.
What was your main impression about the National Final in general?
It was ok and it was fun to participate.

Eurocup 3 game between Unmatched (zyz, stelam, neok, slinger) & iCE cLIMBERS (toxic, gopher, panicore, phantom) on dm7, 1st round. Both teams managed to win their home maps convincingly (ic dm6 & u dm14) so dm7 was the exciting decider.
I might upload some more oldskool demos in the future if you want =).
note: play with
Seismovision if you have problems running the demo.

How to play back Q3 demosBrace yourselfs ladies & gents, because this weekend we're going to see yet another edition of the prestigious ASUS tournament! Unfortunately no Cooller or Jibo this time, but no doubt we're in for some hot q3 action again!
Here's a game I stumbled across on cyberfight, let's say something to ease the waiting period. These two 'midskilled' belarussians have a go at it on ztn... obviously.
Watch out for nice plasma action on 8:30 and a very nice rail on 13:36. Enjoy!

How to play back Q3 demoscan't get enough of that sweet ASUS Spring action! =)
another three-in-one demo; good old nobap meets rising q4 star Cypher in the Quarters.
maps played: ztn, nodm9, dm6.
after a onesided ztn (which starts promising tho), things only get better, with a thrilling last map on dm6. watch out for those airrockets on nodm9!
and the best thing: I put it in a .rar file. ain't the world great?

How to play back Q3 demosIn the ESDC (q4) tournament some months ago, cypher & hunter played each other twice (wbfinal & grand final); cypher won both matches very closely, twice 2-1. These guys met again in the group stage of the ASUS Spring Cup last weekend. Again some firework?
Here's the amazing t4 game, probably one of the most tense games of the tournament.
Enjoy!

will Hunter's defensive style be sufficient to take down an aimbeast like enemy? With no double elimination being used, the loser will make an early exit in the tournament.

How to play back Q3 demossince there is only demo from the ASUS tournament on here, and since the cyberfight website is temporarily down (more demos there), I thought it might do no harm uploading another one. This one is keep3r vs sp1der (dno which round). great games on ztn and t4 of these two oldskoolers; spider really gives keeper a run for his money.
I know I enjoyed them, hopefully you will too ;).

How to play back Q4 demosOne of the many practice games played on Quakecon 06. Cooller & forever played a couple of games on monsoon, from which this one is the best imo.
Forever couldn't really live up (yet) to the expectations on recent events, probably due to his nerves etc, but in games like this you can clearly see he has the skill to compete with the big ones.
nice & close game imo, enjoy it!
