Nexuiz €4000 Tournament (27 comments)
Posted by therogue @ 04:08 CST, 23 November 2012 - iMsg
The ESL together with the developers, Illfonic, are happy to announce a €4000 tournament for Nexuiz.

Following on from the update earlier this week which brought high performance UGLY mode and made the previously pay DLC a part of the regular game, the developers are eager to try to jump-start a competitive community for the game.

Nexuiz is currently in the Steam autumn sale for €5 (half price) or €15 for the 4 pack.

Early sign up is open here. When the dates of the cups have been fixed the post will be updated and everyone signed up will be mailed.

Illfonic, the small studio behind the game, have been working hard on improving the game since it's release in May. Their aim is to bring deathmatch back into the spotlight, with a fast, fun and visually attractive game built on the latest CryENGINE 3.

Nexuiz : Duel goes free, UGLY mode & ESL (56 comments)
Posted by therogue @ 09:44 CST, 21 November 2012 - iMsg
Nexuiz, the other fast-paced deathmatch game of 2012, released a big update yesterday which among other things included two big improvements for competitive play: the Duel mode DLC has been made free, and a new UGLY mode to give you picmip style performance over shiny graphics.

Also in yesterday's update: added support for up to 32 players, three new levels and STUPID mode for benchmarking with DX 11 and uncompressed textures.

The ESL have partnered with Illfonic, the small studio behind the game, to host a series of prize winning cups and help them gather more feedback on how to make the game better. They have been working hard on improving the game since it's release in May. More details will be announced soon.

Their aim is to bring deathmatch back into the spotlight, with a fast, fun and visually attractive game built on the latest CryENGINE 3.

A demo is now available on Steam, giving you the full game for 30 minutes a day.

ESL Pro Series UK to feature Quake 3! (145 comments)
Posted by therogue @ 06:56 CST, 29 January 2009 - iMsg
This Saturday the finals of the £30,000 first season of the ESL ESL Pro Series in the UK takes place in London, featuring the country's best Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4 teams.

Why am I posting this on ESReality? Because next season, in addition to the two games from this season, will also feature a duel game!

The duel game was announced, it's Q3 Quake 3! In addition, there will also be Trackamania Nations Forever. Details about qualification will come in the next few days.

If you happen to be in the London area this weekend, why settle for for a stream when you can be there in person for the announcement. Entry is free with a flyer! More details are available at esl.eu.

The One and Only, Toxjq (307 comments)
Posted by therogue @ 09:55 CDT, 16 March 2008 - iMsg
LowLandLions have posted an interview with Sweden toxjq
How do you look back at what Quake 4 contributed to e-Sports? Why do you think the game did not have the longevity in e-Sports compared to its predecessor, said predecessor being Quake 3?

I think it's because the gap between good and not so good players was too large, in Quake3 even a lower skilled player could think it was fun to play because the game is so slow and you hear around the map and even if you are a lot better than your opponent you don't have the same advantage, because the game is too slow and you can't surprise in Quake 3, it's just about hitting all the rails and taking the armours. In Quake 4, it's more important to have map control and movement, if you look the wrong way once, it might cost you the game, and I like it when there is perfection to a game, if you make 1 bad call it should cost you the game.
