German Rampage Shooter Was a Counter-Strike Player... apparently *sigh*
A 17-year-old who would give only his first name, Aki, said he had been studying this year with the shooter at a private business school, and described him as a quiet, reserved person.

Aki said the two played poker together, both in person and online, as well as a multiplayer video game called "Counter-Strike" that involves killing people to complete missions.

"He was good," Aki said."....
AND
A former classmate said... "The only thing which stands out is that Tim was always very good with weapons. He mainly shot air weapons firing plastic balls, but the house had several gun cabinets occupying square metres of walls, mainly air guns."

"He was a pretty good shooter. He used to shoot in a forest behind his house. Sometimes we'd have air gun battles in the summer."

So they blame CS rather than plastic balls .... cool

QUAKE LIVE Stats Return (53 comments)
Posted by Nicky @ 01:53 CST, 7 March 2009 - iMsg
Just a short news post to make people aware that stats are now back in QUAKE LIVE, they havent worked since the beta has been "open".
"We took the site down for about an hour today to implement changes that allow us to now re-enable most statistics reporting. The one element of stats that we are not re-enabling immediately is the specific data tied to each individual frag (i.e. what weapon was used, what items you were carrying, who you fragged, etc.). We do however intend to re-enable these frag specific stats very soon after evaluating back-end performance. The only side effects of this specific set of stats being disabled is that you won't see weapon specific frag counts in your statistics page or in the individual game details views, and we've temporarily hidden about 25 of our more than 80 awards - these 25 relate specifically to individual frag statistics. If you had earned an award (prior to us disabling stats) that is now hidden, when we start reporting those stats again, your award will re-appear and you won't need to re-earn it."
For the full announcement you can read the news on the QUAKE LIVE site.

United Kingdom Paul "ReDeYe" Chaloner writes a column every Thursday for Cadred.org, this weeks episode features QueueLive QuakeLive ....
Excerpt:.
..... the game is very good, in fact, it’s better than very good, at its height, its great and I haven’t been able to say that about a competitive game in some time. It feels refined and it bloody well should do, it’s been beta tested by most of the hardcore quake players from the last 10 years for many, many months. If it fails to take off, it may well be the last time iD comes knocking on the competitive players doors for feedback on their games. That said, last time they asked for our help, they ended up making a much better version of Quake 4 than Raven produced out of the box, so we have good history on our side.

Poems for Valentines day .... (56 comments)
Posted by Nicky @ 00:17 CST, 24 January 2009 - iMsg
saw these on another forum, made me giggle

1. My darling, my lover, my beautiful wife:
Marrying you has screwed up my life.

2. I see your face when I am dreaming.
That's why I always wake up screaming.

3. Kind, intelligent, loving and hot;
This describes everything you are not.

4. Love may be beautiful, love may be bliss,
But I only slept with you 'cause I was pissed.

5.. I thought that I could love no other
-- that is until I met your brother.

6. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and so are you.
But the roses are wilting, the violets are dead, the sugar bowl's
empty and so is your head.

7. I want to feel your sweet embrace;
But don't take that paper bag off your face.

8. I love your smile, your face, and your eyes
Damn, I'm good at telling lies!

9. My love, you take my breath away.
What have you stepped in to smell this way?

10. My feelings for you no words can tell,
Except for maybe 'Go to hell.'

11. What inspired this amorous rhyme?
Two parts vodka, one part lime.

"The game's website points out the the machine moves in real time to corresponding on screen motions during "climax scenes." The SOM connects to the computer via USB. As the Cross Days website suggests, "Install SOM and experience a next-gen reality!"

The First In-Game Web Browser (48 comments)
Posted by Nicky @ 01:59 CST, 21 November 2008 - iMsg
Rogue is a free web browser for video game players. It enables gamers to surf the Internet while playing PC games.
"Gamers spend a quarter of their time in game waiting for teammates to log in or games to load. They want something to do during this downtime, but exiting or minimizing the game means missing critical action.

GotGame Rogue eliminates this waiting game, enabling players to surf the web via a fully functional web browser without ever leaving their favourite games."

As MarzenGold pointed out below this could be a good tool for browsing ESR while watching GTV. I have sent their support an email asking if Quake3 is supported.

Posted by Nicky @ 00:33 CST, 16 November 2008 - iMsg
Press Release

The newly formed CPL_Black_BG CPL Holdings Group, LLC announced today that it has acquired the cal Cyberathlete Amateur League (CAL) in an all cash transaction that divests NewWorld.com, Inc. (former parent of CAL) and its shareholders from any interest in CAL.

The new management of CAL, will seek to increase its worldwide presence, enhance its infrastructure, and create a more interactive and fair environment for online game competitions. Participation in CAL will continue to be free of cost.

Ms. Angela Summers, a spokesperson for the CPL Holdings Group, LLC, said, "We are excited to have completed our first acquisition at the new CPL. We are also evaluating other media and gaming technology properties in Europe and Asia for either acquisition or partnership."

CAL was launched on March 6, 2001, when NewWorld.com, Inc., acquired the Domain of Games online league. Beginning with a single Counter-Strike division and 3,000 members, CAL has since grown to 16 game divisions and 300,000 registered members. Over the last 12 months, CAL has generated 17 million visits and 170 million page impressions.

CAL (www.caleague.com) was the world's first online league to form periodic structured seasons, complete with pre-season, regular season and playoffs. In addition, CAL was the first online league to introduce integrated team predictions, roster locks, score tickers, draft leagues, and game ID locks.

RSS Feeds (No comments, locked)
Posted by Nicky @ 17:32 CDT, 19 October 2008 - iMsg
There is a basic RSS Feed RSS feed available from this website. In the future this will be modified and upgraded, however it is functional for now.

A basic news feed with 20 items can be obtained as follows:
http://www.esreality.com/rss_xml.php

If you want to pick up just Counter-Strike news, you can add a category choice. Multiple categories can be used, separated by a comma. For example, CS is category 4:
http://www.esreality.com/rss_xml.php?category=4

If you want more or less than 10 items in the feed you can specify a limit.:
http://www.esreality.com/rss_xml.php?limit=100

Also if you want to list articles (type 4) instead of news, you can specify the type. Multiple types should be separated by a comma.
