Travelling Europe (24 comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 07:33 CDT, 5 August 2011 - iMsg
Soooo I've made a slight cock up. I bought my plane ticket last week but decided to wait until pay day today to buy my InterRail pass. Unfortunately they can't deliver it before my plane leaves :X Fuckity fuck.

Original plan had been to fly to Split, visit a local festival, travel up through to Germany across into Belgium & Holland then get the ferry back across to the UK.

I doubt I can afford that without the fooking pass!

So does anyone know of any alternatives to cheaply travel Europe? And if not what's good in Croatia? Flying into Split & the festival is at Sibenik. I fly out Monday. They can deliver it to Germany by next Wednesday so that might be an option any idea on train prices to get up there locally? Any southern based yerman willing to offer an address?:x

Balls.

So how's the rest of the world covering this? Can't seem to see any discussion on here but it's all we're seeing. Mainly curious about Europe as I read a few Yank sites - you guys joining in our glee?

I tried to write a brief timeline but the amount of shit that's flying it's just impossible - like jebus this has everything. Corruption, resignation, death, cyber warfare, mud slinging dating back years.

This is fairly extensive.

People are getting smeered that hard at the minute to the extent that within 5 minutes of a fairly obscure Tory politician being on BBC Newsnight (current affairs show) he'd been destroyed.

Internet hackers 'Lulszec' now attacking Murdoch's various newspaper websites. Also an involved journalist found dead tonight - reminds you of a certain Dr David Kelly.

Where to next?

Hey, can any Germans help me out? What's the Rocco Del Schlacko festival like? Would love to see NOFX / Dropkick Murphys / Frank Turner amongst others. Need me a weekend away & the idea of catching Toots & The Maytals in Belgium on the way home the day after on the 14th.

What's it like in terms of getting to? Train, fly or drive? To the west so I'm thinking either drive or Eurostar it. I'm right in thinking tickets are still available & are 35€ each yeah?

Equally if anyone can recommend any gigs either in / around Paris / Northern France, Belgium, Holland or Luxumberg in the days around 12th August. I'd love to catch a ska gig in Germany as the crowds always look mental. Up for pretty much anything else, prefer punk / ska / folk but music is music it all sounds great live.

Anyone any useful tips for a custom gaming setup? Basically I've not the conventional PC table / chair combo more a sofa / PC look. Compact living I think.

This pretty much means I'm mouse & the keyboard on the sofa which doesn't make for great aiming :v

Going to be buying a laptop and hooking it up with the TV which should give me some leeway and more space but as an interim thing - anyone any ideas?

I miss playing CPM / ET!:(

eSports Challenge LAN Announced (No comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 15:14 CST, 17 January 2011 - iMsg
The Last Resort are pleased to bring you the great news of 'eSport Challenge', A LAN hosted by TLR which is due to take place Friday 1st July - Sunday 3rd July 2011 at the very recognisable Wzzrd LAN centre, Enschede. The LAN itself will feature two tournaments - a 16 team Enemy Territory competition as well as a 16 team Call of Duty 4 competition.

This latest announcement continues the punky DIY approach of Enemy Territory with the players, teams and admins getting involved to make the game a success years after its release. This follows on from a very successful 2009 where for the first time ET featured prominantly at AEF and should kick start a 2011 rumoured to involve at least another 3 prized LANs including CIC8, OOF and AEF.

Details

- Prize pool 3500 Euros (per tournament)
- Hosted @ The Wzzrd Lan Centre, Enschede
- 16 team 5on5 five tournament
- Full coverage provided by TLR

Full details on how to sign your team up will be posted on the TLR site and any questions put to the TLR team here.

'This is Enemy Territory' is the latest Community Movie, starring European's finest in 11 minutes of epic slaughters and clutches. The movie features an impressive cast from fifteen of the most known names in Enemy Territory history such as Mystic, mAus, teKoa, Night, RELOAd, butchji and many, many more, this is a "must-see" movie!

Five months after the start of the project, it's finally being released by Manj "Kamz" Singh. He has taken his time, but the waiting definitely has paid off!

Statement by Kamz: I'm proud to release this movie today on 10/10/10. I can say that I've never wanted to perfect a project so much like this one. I really hope everybody enjoys the movie. This movie is made for all of the community and contains a lot of unseen footage from some of the best players this game has ever had.

Hey having some difficulties & CPM sucks without sound =(

My PC just refuses to play any sound... the speakers work fine, drivers installed, it's onboard so checked the BIOS to make sure it's all good, not muted or anything silly like that.

Recently reformmated & this appears to be a common issue but I can't seem to find a common solution.

Any ideas?

TosspoT: The Interview (55 comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 10:52 CDT, 25 May 2009 - iMsg
His excitable tones are synonymous with the Wolfenstein community. As a start up caster, he broadcast from the internet equivalent of a radio rack shack, he found happiness and a home at Inside The Game and went on to develop a career in gaming. Having recently successfully hosted the Sixth Crossfire Challenge – Stuart Saw talks to Crossfire.

Gaming is an unnerving and constantly evolving profession. An industry that adequately supports relatively few, yet is the ultimate meritocratic profession. Raw talent can be developed and nurtured, anyone can progress from broadcasting in their basement to entertaining a crowd of thousands in the sizzling heat of Singapore. Dedication, passion and a natural gift for entertainment are just a few of the qualities required, and ones Stuart has in abundance.

My last confrontation with Stuart Saw, aka TosspoT was an aggressive and provocative exchanged back in 2006. It probed his financial situation, his personal casting style, the morality of gaming and ego. How has Stuart changed since then? How have his pet projects developed and where does he envisage the future?

After "The BuLL got M1lked" was finished, we thought it would be great to make a movie of a player that has been there and done that.

It all started when this guy downloaded the RtCW MP demo in 2001. When he got better and better, he was asked to join Benelux Kreaturen and became a key player in one of the best RtCW teams at that time. Solid teamplay and an aggressive aiming attitude were his qualities.

"He had such a deathmatch attitude in RtCW that he could take down 3 people without breaking a sweat." iTG TosspoT
After the EuroCup final against Netherlands mysod, he decided to move to Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Benelux Kreaturen was his first team, with the likes of gaz3ta, dozer, Night, syL and others. He competed in the first EuroCup of ET and after some months he decided to start his own team.

In the spring of 2004, Azz0r was his companion in the Kodler.ET adventure. He kept the team together for nearly 2 years and they played against all the big names in ET's history.

The movie you are about to see contains frags up until 2006. Some of you won't recognize several opponents, but believe me, they were all known and "oldschool" at some point in time.

GamesTV.org Saves Radio iTG Casts (19 comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 10:03 CDT, 24 March 2009 - iMsg
Great news for aficionados and fans alike of the once great shoutcasting station Radio iTG. Shoutcasts from over the past ten years of Esports history were due to be lost to the vast wilderness of internet oblivion with the closure of Filecloud – that was until GamesTV.org stepped in.

GamesTV.org, in collaboration with former iTG caster Tosspot managed to retrieve & copy all the hosted Radio iTG casts and shows to the GamesTV.org server, enabling them to remain publicly available for the foreseeable future.

One thousand and sixty five casts, hours of coverage, over 32GB of content has been transferred. Casts from the much loved games such as Quake 3, Call of Duty, Enemy Territory and Counter Strike, including the many great shows such as Epileptic Gaming, Just Push Play, Urban Radio, The Source & E T Phone In, have all been saved.

If you’re in need of nostalgia this Spring, to reminisce in the great days of competitive gaming, when casters synonymous with their scene graced the airwaves, the likes of djWheat, Trillian, TosspoT, ReDeYe & Syn, when players, casters and fans alike played & spectated the games they loved, head over to the Shoutcast Section of GamesTV.org!

Much love and thanks goes to the kind crew of GamesTV.org

ClanBase ET EuroCup Gets LAN Finals (No comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 12:16 CST, 5 December 2008 - iMsg
ClanBase have announced that the ClanBase Enemy Territory EuroCup XVIII Grand Final will be played live from the Crossfire Challenge 5, Enschede, Holland on Saturday 13th December 2008. The two strongest teams in ET, Slovenia mamut.si and Europe buttonbashers will compete for the much coveted title, reigniting one of the strongest rivalries we've seen since EC XI between u96d and Parodia.

Yes people, this does mean they will be playing the final at the Crossfire Challenge in Enshede, The Netherlands. Due to the particular good timing of the LAN event the ET organizing Crew, Adacore and Anaconda, have agreed to give us some time to play this match at this event. There will be ample coverage at the event itself and if we are lucky ClanBase will get some extra video coverage in as well.

sHgOpen hosted the last ClanBase ET LAN final back in February 2007, a closely fought encounter between United Kingdom dignitas and Sweden zeroPoint!.

QuadV will be out in force the entire weekend, with United Kingdom TosspoT, United Kingdom ReDeYe and United Kingdom deman on location providing a live video feed of all the best Call of Duty and Enemy Territory Crossfire Challenge matches, plus the Enemy Territory EuroCup Grand Final.

Adacore, The Interview (18 comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 18:16 CST, 3 December 2008 - iMsg
TosspoT is the face of Crossfire and Cash the brain, but what role does the third part of this unlikely trio, United Kingdom Adam "Adacore" Oddy fulfill?

Adacore initially joined the administrative side of gaming in the Fall of 2005, gradually working his way through the hierarchy of ClanBase. He has since coordinated LAN events across the globe, hosted several EuroCups and attained the title of Crossfire Challenge Tournament Director. Adacore sits down to talk the past, the present and the future with Crossfire.

But first what does his associate Netherlands Cash make of the man himself?
"Adacore is by far the best colleague I have had in running gaming tournaments. I know that running gaming tournaments, especially LANs always results in troubles, but for 4 editions in a row I have never seen him slip up. He is a person that is so well-composed, stress-resistant, polite yet tough and fair that he remains on top of his game.

He is one of the few admins that anticipates on what will come rather than what will happen. I am sure that TosspoT will agree with me on this that Adacore has been one of the key success factors of the Crossfire Challenges just because of his sheer intelligence, work ethic and dedication to succeed."

The War on Democracy provides both a timely exposé of Washington’s disregard for democracy in post-war Latin America and an affectionate portrait of the continent’s nascent social movements. And it’s a tribute to Pilger’s first cinematic release that you’ll come away feeling angry, inspired, informed and thoroughly entertained.
And it does...

After a month of intense production Korean moviemaker Korea (Republic of) Quaky has finished his third installment of the Fragarea series. This latest creation focuses on competitions from Quakecon 2005 up to and including the CPC2. Much like it’s pre-decessors this Fragarea focuses on the big hits that players make in order to lead their team to victory.

This movie sets itself apart from the rest by rather than restricting itself to one player, or one clan - it scours the talent pool of Enemy Territory hand picking only the best. Including all the big names such as United Kingdom The Last Resort , Europe Evolve, United Kingdom Dignitas and United Kingdom Impact Gaming to the sounds of Quaky’s ghettoblaster music this is one to watch.

And all neatly packed into 6 minutes and 45 seconds.

Back in July 2006, Germany hannes started searching for frags for an Enemy Territory Community Fragmovie - a concept where demo submission is open to everyone, which is very popular in other games such as Quake, but hasn't really been attempted before in ET with any great success at this level. The people at Ultraviolet Productions hope to have set the benchmark for community movies in ET for the future.

Size: 374 Mb

This movie has received mixed reviews amongst the ET community.

Prolific Enemy Territory movie maker Poland Thoro has released his latest creation, an entry for the Creative Movies Director's CUT competition.

Breaking from the mould of traditional frag movies The Longest Day takes us on a journey back to 1944. Reinacting the cinema screens version of D-Day - largely based on Saving Private Ryan.

Though the voice work may not win any Oscars, this movie is an enjoyable one off and Thoro's excellent editing once again shines through.

Posted by Nellie @ 00:55 CST, 9 January 2007 - iMsg
I'm having a few problems ripping a DVD to my pc - it's got no encryption on. A few minutes in I get an error "Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)"

Seems VTS_01_5.VOB doesn't want to copy.

I've tried using DVD Shrink & DVD dencrytor. Any ideas wtf?:(

This is some kinda routine for me, every time a big ET event comes up you get a guide to installing ET =)

To watch ETTV you'll need...

Enemy Territory Download
2.60 Patch
ETPro 3.2.5 (Competition mod)

That's yer ET installed, you'll need these maps

ETTV ips can be found at Gamestv.org - it's the same as GTV, just type /connect <ip> in the console

To turn off the ETTV whine /tvchat off

If you want a bit of background to the ET scene

Qcon 2006: The Prologue
Crossfire Heads To Quakecon

If you're after a simple competition ET config, here's mine - place it in your etpro folder.

ET is awesome =)

Career opportunities... (35 comments)

..are the ones that never knock

Disillusioned, that be me. About to end my second year at college having only achieved a pass in BTEC Business Studies. Granted an amazingly boring subject - only option having been royally fucked over by me first college. Now this isn’t because I’m thick, far from it (hrhr) - but college has a habit of de-motivating you. People seem to think dragging a subject out over a longer period of time increases the likeliness for success, idiots. Teachers are condescending morons obsessing over “new teaching methods“.

Now explain coursework to me, what’s the point? It doesn’t show a persons cleverness, understanding or how much they’ve learnt - it reflects how motivated a person is. For those not in the know, your teacher goes through the assignment and offers guidelines, you then submit a first draft which is marked and feedback given. You then have the opportunity to correct any mistakes and, if you can be arsed, improve the grade. Which is resubmitted and the process repeated. What a waste of time!

So I’m sat here finishing my 4th essay on Recruitment and Selection, repeating for the fourth time why “it is important for the HR department to adhere to Government legislation so they don‘t discriminate…” (yawn) and I can’t be fecked. There’s gotta be a better way. I’m the guy that breezes through with minimal effort getting satisfactory grades so I guess I’ve got it coming.

What next? I’ve an awful attendance record at both colleges and have effectively wasted the past two years of my life. Countless career advisors (useless twats) and I’m clueless. Destined for a life stacking shelves they said.

I be looking for hope, there’s gotta be someone that can offer me hope. Do you really need to achieve at college to get a decent job? Guess I need an idea, thresh mate, you around?

TAS At The GGL Rankings (3 comments)
Posted by Nellie @ 22:28 CDT, 14 April 2006 - iMsg
Its apparent some rate the Trans Atlantic Showdown more than others. It’s got a nice name ‘n all, “Trans Atlantic Showdown” & was fun to spec - but beyond that did it tell us much? Is finishing second at TAS, a four player tournament an achievement worth mentioning?

If you where on the panel to select what Rank it got for the GGL World Rankings what would you give it?

Consider that:

- The tournament must be played on LAN.
- The factors include (but are not limited to) prestige attached to the tournament, prize money sizes, depth of field, quality of field, attendance of known players and finally, the game itself.

The Ranks go from 1 to 12 with 1 being the highest.

Personally, the rules state that the "tournament must be played on LAN" - to me this makes the Eurocup & Americup fairly irrelevant as they where played online bar the final.

So you've a 4 player single elimination tournament. For me that puts you at around Rank 5 or 6 at the highest. Propped up by the prize purse, cooller/socrates_ involvement & the GGL/CB name.

Here’s the grid for the rankings.

Am I mad?

Ripping Music (4 comments)

Hoi, there any programs out there to rip live music from the interweb?

Editors did a great cover of the Gorrilaz in the live lounge on Jo Whileys show, the BBC only stream it for a week so it'd be nice to have a hard copy.

On the eve of what is inevitably the final Eurocup for Enemy Territory I thought I’d share Sockehs creation with the good people of esreality. Although this preview was released back in September it never seemed to make it onto here.

Socks aim when he set about creating this was to make the ultimate movie showcasing Enemy Territory’s finest moments. From 6 man support fires in Atlantic Battle to a last gasp panzerfaust kill which inevitably won u96d (aka Check 6’s Quakecon ET team) Eurocup XI.

It offers something a bit different, not your average frags synced to music. This incorporates shoutcasts from the fantastic Radio iTG team who covered these matches.

Unfortunately Sock never got beyond this preview, losing all his work due to a format and unfortunatly lost the motivation.

It’s been fun, the first Eurocup XI final between Parodia and u96d was incredibly intense, not seen anything like it. Then the United5 vs idle.ee slug fest during Quakecon 05. Lest we forget the mighty Dignitas, unbeaten in Enemy Territory, probably the best we’ve seen. Then there’s such greats as DSky, gunslingers and Saevus amongst others. Long live ET!

Let's hope we go out in style with this final Eurocup.

Just thought I’d reminisce a bit ;) A crying shame this movie never got completed, we can only hope someone else takes on this momentous task…
