It seems the Quake 4: Worst FPS ever column has gotten quite a bit of replies.
Although I like to believe it's kind of funny and it deserved to be posted (specially when you compare it to the usual columns and posts on this site - I mean, we're all stupid), I have to say that I didn't expect that many comments, and specially, that I didn't expect them to be so positive. I also didn't expect it to be major'd - props to the admin who did it.
Now, about its content: It's funny to read some of the responses to the column regarding two special, err, "features" they might contain.
First, it's obvious some people didn't even start reading the column before commenting. People suggesting I'm just trying to scare people away from the game because I'm afraid I'll get owned on it is one of such cases. I do have some fun reading those entries.
The second is that some people get truly boiled because I have implied "the next big thing" they expect so fondly is shit. This kind of mixes with the previous point - some people don't even read the content before commenting - but some other people did actually read it and do a topic-by-topic reply, coming into great lengths just to justify their belief on the game. I mean, come on, people - that's a joke. I expect the game to be okey. I'm more pumped for Prey and ET:QW, but I don't think Q4 will be shit; far from that (I'm realistic though, so I know a lot of people will bitch even after the game has been released - ie, the railgun sound kid).
All in all, this small ammount of insane replies are very similar to replies written on a previous article, as pointed by Sujoy. I hadn't read that before, but it seems nice. Could it be that Brandan finally wrote something funny without being a total inane dick? Maybe he has lost it through time because he was mistreated? Who knows, who cares.
And even though the column stands by itself and no explanation is needed for the majority of people, I'd also like to point one thing: while the column has received some valid criticism, my point when 'making fun' of people bitching about the game prior to release was exactly to show the inaneness (does that word exist?) of the preemptive bitching. It's annoying. I don't want people to hate Q4 haters, and I don't want people to love Q4 before release either; rather, I want people to judge by themselves, and the reason I wrote that column was because I was pissed of seeing too much crying for stuff that people didn't know about, or stuff that simply doesn't matter for anyone except own someone's little twisted, egotistical world.
That was my main point. I don't expect to change the world with this interweb column though, I just wanted to get a chuckle from some people who understood what was it about.
And hey, we use online forums to liberate our inner child/beasts, not for in-depth communication, right? People bitch and I tried to meta-counter-bitch. It's like an MMORPG, except that we never level up, just keep casting thunderbolts at each other until someone casts sleep... then repeat the same thing on the following day.

Until very recently, players would have to wait until a game was out so they could buy it and play it to discover if it's any good. Not anymore; thanks to the power of the interweb, we now have the ability to know, in advance, if a game will suck or not, with over 100% accuracy. By simply reading posts made on an internet website by random people prior to a game release, we can already not only predict but know what a game will be like.
