The Quake America team is proud to announce the launch of their new website QuakeAmerica.com. New features besides running the tournaments include access to community videos, streams, and forums. Keep in mind it is still a work in progress, but is now in a presentable state. The Quake America team would like to encourage everyone to participate in all features of the website beyond the Duel Cup Series, such as the forums.

Also, we have officially opened sign-ups for Duel Cup #4 set to begin at 18:00 CST, 27 February 2010. Note that as we are using a new bracket builder software, some rule changes are currently pending. Especially those regarding the check-in phase, elimination system and seeding style. Final decisions on those rules will be posted later.

The Quake America team would like to thank the Quake community for all the support we've been given over the past few weeks, and hope you will enjoy our return to running the Quake America Duel Cup Series.

And the results are in! After a long night that almost didn't happen, our first repeat winner and even more evidence that Quake America is as much an endurance test as anything else, we have your podium for Quake America Duel Cup #3:

cup_gold Eddie T. "km Rey" J.
cup_silver JUDGE717
cup_bronze Jeff "dCoy" Zachary

Special mention goes out to Clan Knightmare who have been putting out great showings every single tournament, with most of the top 8 being filled by their players each week consistently, and congratulations to km Rey who is our first ever repeat winner tonight.

And with that, a quick announcement that as of tonight, Quake America will be taking a one week hiatus to both reseat ourselves in our new website, and allow a chance for Silent Gamers to run their charity Pro-Am. So look forward to more annoucements coming soon! Thank you all for playing and/or watching!

EDIT #2: Brackets are up!

EDIT: Seeds have been posted for tonight! See below!

Today will see the start of the third entry in the Quake America Duel Cup series, and the final one hosted by tourney.cc.

Quake America Duel Cup #3: Sign Up! (4 comments)
Posted by Amp @ 16:30 CST, 10 February 2010 - iMsg
Sign-ups are now open for Quake America Weekly Duel Cup #2, scheduled to start Saturday, February 13th at 18:00 CST!

Updates will be posted pending any rule or schedule changes.

Also, remember that this is the Sign-Up phase. On the day of the tournament there will be a Check-In phase where players will verify they are present. If you miss either the Sign-Up or the Check-In, you will not be put into the bracket for Duel Cup #3.

So, don't forget to sign up for Duel Cup #3, and good luck to all participants!

Also, the tournament that would have been set to be on February 20th has been postponed. This will serve two purposes. The first will be to allow the Silent Gamers to run their tournament, the second concerns Quake America's new website.

Please be aware, we are still running one more tournament on the 13th through our previous tourney.cc hosts. We are merely taking a very short hiatus after our tournament on the 13th so as to migrate to our new website at quakeamerica.com and to offer some cross promotion to our good friends at Silent Gamers.

Quake America Duel Cup #1 Results! (113 comments)
Posted by Amp @ 14:50 CST, 31 January 2010 - iMsg
So, Quake America Duel Cup #1 is over, and after a gruelling night where the top 6 were easily staying awake past 03:00 CST, we finally came out with results:
cup_gold Eddie T. "kmRey" J.
cup_silver Alex "km Karabas" Kravchenko
cup_bronze Ben "Pandemic-Pl4gue" Tremblay

We would also like to extend honorable mentions to the people who made it into the top 6: K9-InsaneKILL, km dCoy, and weeja.

Thanks to all who played last night, especially those who made it to the upper rankings and had to stay up in the wee hours of the morning!

The Quake America staff learned a lot last night by having many issues come up and unfortunately quite a few players had to leave disappointed in the organization. All I can do is apologize on behalf of myself and the rest of the Quake America staff and promise that we'll have many of our issues fixed for Cup #2 on next Saturday, February 6th.

Please look forward to changes and other announcements coming soon!

Quake America: State of Affairs (12 comments)
Posted by Amp @ 22:26 CST, 27 January 2010 - iMsg
Due to many events beyond the control of the Quake America staff, there will have to be some unexpected changes to the Duel Cup #1 happening on January 30th.

First of all, the immense amount of support that the first Quake America Duel Cup has gathered is very humbling, and yet also very daunting. We now stand at 68 players registered to play in the first cup, a number we never anticipated. With an average sign-up rate of 17 players per day, we are on track to have over 100 players signed up. Due to this immense number of players, the Quake America staff have decided that, at least for Duel Cup #1, the format will be Single-Elimination until the Quarter-Finals, when Double-Elimination will begin. Quake America does very much appreciate the support offered by the players and will do our best to allow everyone a fair chance to play.

Second is the issue of seeding. We had originally planned to run a completely objective seeding system by borrowing from the AGP database, and then everyone without an AGP rank would get a random lower seed. With the AGP database as we currently know it inaccessible, we have to run Duel Cup #1 on a different system. Seeds will be done subjectively by the admin team to the best of our ability. Please keep in mind we are only a few people and we cannot seed everyone completely accurately. The Quake America staff will do our best to provide an enjoyable environment for our players and spectators.

Thirdly, we will be closing the sign-up period on Friday, January 29th at 12:00 CST. If you want to get registered to play in the tournament, get signed up sooner rather than later!

Finally, just a reminder that the tournament is still set to go down on Saturday, January 30th at 20:00 CST, however the check-in period will start roughly one hour before. You MUST check in and MUST be present in IRC to be allowed to play.

On behalf of the Quake America staff: Good luck, have fun!

-William "Amp" Best,
Owner of Quake America

Quake America Announces Weekly Duel Cups (129 comments)
Posted by Amp @ 15:46 CST, 18 January 2010 - iMsg
In recent months, the North American Duel scene has had to go without any reasonable regular competition, with all the action happening either only happening at major LAN’s, or on another continent. This draught has given rise to a new organization: Quake America.

The first order of business for Quake America is to give the players someplace to compete. So it is with much excitement that we announce the Quake America Duel Cups. Weekly tournaments taking place every Saturday starting at 9pm EST.

The Quake America Duel Cups will begin on January 30th. For more details and rules see our website or visit us on IRC.
