Ahahaha haha

He said the donations were to pay for the server's rental and any "surplus" would eventually be used to buy a server - yeah right !

Mr Ellis explained why he set up the website."It was to further my skills. To better my skills for employability." - mwah hah ..sure :P

Mr Ellis said the website was developed from a free template, which had a torrent file-sharing facility included in it - *cough*

Not guilty !

Regardless of the rights and wrongs of filesharing (my intent is not to start a flamewar) I find it funny how he managed to bullshit the court ... I suppose that deserves some respect

Is anyone running this without issues ?
I kept having explorer.exe die on me so I uninstalled Firefox. Everything has been OK since.

I have been using Firefox for a while though and would like to continue using it but the crashes were making things unbearable.

Cheers

It is sad to see that gaming (albeit outdoor instead of Q3 for a change) is once again bearing the brunt of the backlash ....

Logitech drivers and Synaptics touchpad (6 comments)
Posted by Shrike @ 15:45 CDT, 17 March 2007 - iMsg
Does anyone have an easy fix that will allow me to assign keystrokes to my MX510 buttons ?

I have a new gaming lappy (Rock Core 2 Duo 2.33, Go 7950, 2 gig RAM 200 gig HDD ..etc) and the performance is great but I can't figure out how to map keystrokes to my mouse.

On my desktop it is easy - install mouseware and via control panel -> mouse click on buttons tab

On the laptop however the buttons tab has settings for the synaptics touchpad ... grrr

I have seen a few convoluted methods that involve installing old synaptics drivers but wondered if someone had an easy method ?

Too old to play ? (31 comments)
Posted by Shrike @ 16:08 CST, 1 January 2007 - iMsg
At the grand old age of 36 I have been playing games for many years now ...

It all started with an Atari VCS ... but I won't bore you youngsters with the details :)

This is more of an open question really .. is it just my advanced years or is the public server community getting more and more childish ? Maybe it is because I am getting older and the 'kids' who play on servers are around 15 or so but I am seriously deciding giving up online gaming (ET mainly) because I can't find a decent server to play on ...

I'm bored of playing on servers where

- spawncamping is considered funny
- anything said against lame tactics is met with howls of 'whiner' '#care' etc
- players think insults spam bound to a key are amusing
- there is no templay whatsoever

I hadn't played for several months for these very reasons and tonight I thought I'd give it another go ... guess what happened ... yep same tirade of childish behaviour that totally ruins the game :(

sad really ...

And before anyone says anything .. yes do have real life pursuits (tennis, gym etc) . I used to play ET for fun but it's just not fun anymore :(

Big screen gaming ... (10 comments)
Posted by Shrike @ 04:39 CST, 10 December 2006 - iMsg
At the moment I am gaming on a 24in Sony CRT and have to say I am very happy with it.

I am buying a new TV soon(ish) and am considering the possibility of being able to hook my PC up to it and use it for big screen gaming.

I know there are some big LCD's with decent response times , and as long as I use the native resolution the picture quality should be good enough..

Not considered plasmas yet - no idea what kind of response times they have ..

Any opinons would be appreciated...

P.S I will still keep the CRT for online FPS gaming where refresh rate is more important, but it would be nice to play games like RTS on a massive screen ...

P.P.S Undecided about whether to go plasma or lcd atm

Wii on a monitor ? (21 comments)
Posted by Shrike @ 13:16 CST, 26 November 2006 - iMsg
.. and yes I do know that urinating on a monitor is potentially hazardous but what I'm really asking about is whether I will be able to hook my Wii to my monitor ...

I don't have a TV but my Sony 24'' CRT (FDW-900 or something like that) has RGB connectors at the back.

I'm hoping that I can get a connector with RGB one end and SCART the other ...

I have PC surround speakers I'm hoping to use for sound.

Has anyone done anything like this ? Will it work or am I scuppered ?

thanks in advance

Quake 4 - a newbies perspective (18 comments)
Posted by Shrike @ 03:21 CST, 15 January 2006 - iMsg
I'm not exactly new to FPS having played them since the Quake days - I remember being totally in awe of clan9 when they destroyed Death Row , but that's another story.

This journal is about my impression of Quake 4 and how difficult I think it is for someone who is new to the game to actually play the game and watch demos because of missing content.

Let's face it Q4 out of the box is not going to let you play on many servers or watch many demos because you always end up missing something be it maps or mods like q4max. For someone like me who doesn't have a lot of time to spend on his gaming this is very frustrating especially since there does not seem one place where you can get everything you need from (please correct me if I am wrong on this count)

I still dabble in Q4 but to be honest it is too much hassle at the moment which ends up in me playing other games. I'm not alone in this either, many of my friends who just play the odd game have said the same thing.

By comparison games like ET allow you to download missing content from the server via direct download or http redirect - much more newbie friendly.

I hope I'm not going to get flamed too much for this ... I'm just pointing out a few barriers that are there which are stopping Q4 from crossing over to mainstream gaming ....
