Awesome Games Done Quick 2015 (132 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 16:38 CST, 25 December 2014 - iMsg
Scheduled: 11:00 CST, 4 January 2015 to 19:00 CST, 10 January 2015
Schedule: Passed

Speedrunning is a community that is getting bigger and bigger every year. Speedrunning means completing a game as fast as possible without cheating, you may use glitches inside the game but no cheat codes. There are over 1000 speedruns over at Speed Demos Archive and probably more that haven't been submitted yet.
The guys over at SDA got two events every year where they gather people from all over the world for about 6-7 days and play video games. These are called AGDQ, SGDQ, Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick.

Last year at AGDQ 2014 they managed to raise $1,031,189.00 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Summer Games Done Quick managed to raise $718,155.07 for Doctors Without Borders. Letting people know about these events could help the cause and - the more people that join the speedrunning community the better.

I hope you got inspired enough to watch some of these awesome runs and hopefully you'll be speedrunning very soon! more helpful links will be posted below to help you find everything you need to know about speedrunning.

I thought I should tell you guys about speedrunning, it's a community that's getting bigger and bigger for every year. Speedrunning is to complete a game as fast as possible without cheating, you may use glitches inside the game but no cheat codes. There's over 900 speedruns over at Speed Demos Archive and probably more that hasn't been submitted yet. The guys over at SDA got two events every year where they gather people from all over the world for about 6-7 days and play video games, these are called AGDQ, SGDQ, Awesome Games Done Quick and Summer Games Done Quick. Last year at AGDQ 2013 they managed to raise $448,423.27 for the Prevent Cancer Foundation and Summer Games Done Quick managed to raise $257,181.07 for Doctors Without Borders and I thought that if I wrote about this there's a chance they could make even more money at the next events for a great cause. The point of all this is that I want more people to join the speedrunning community. I've done a couple of interviews with a group of really active speedrunners and I hope you'll like it.

The marathon is now over and I'm happy to announce that they managed to raise over $1 million, $1006990 to be exact. I'm proud to be a part of this community and I'm proud of all of you who supported this!

I hope you got inspired enough to watch some of these awesome runs and hopefully you'll be speedrunning very soon! I will post some helpful links below to help you find everything you need to know about speedrunning.

Speedrunning! (19 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 16:53 CDT, 15 June 2012 - iMsg
Hey guys! The last 4 years I've watched a lot of speedrunning and I think there's a lot of people that doesn't know about this community at all and I think they deserve some attention from you all.

Many of you have probably seen "Super Mario Bros done in under 5 minutes" or "Quake Done Quick" and these are some great speedruns! Below I will provide you with some links for some awesome speedrunning sites and most runners today have streams for you to follow.

Speed Demos Archive - All the games you can imagine.
SDA Stream Page - All speedrunning streams, Often with commentary.
Speedrunslive - Mostly racing, Player vs Player to beat the game in the fastest time
3D Zelda Speedruns - Only Zelda, World records, New glitches etc.
TASVideos - Tool-assisted speedruns

There you go, I hope you will enjoy this as much as I do and if you got any questions just post in the comments and I will try to answer as fast as possible.

Stickrunners 2v2 Q3CTF (2 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 05:44 CDT, 8 April 2012 - iMsg
There are those days that when you wake up, you think back about all the glorious moments in your life. There probably aren't many. That's ok. That just makes those Stickrunners seasons more unique. You know you loved it. The taste of victory. The smell of fear in your enemies just before obliterating them with that quad. The feeling you get after beating them up a little with your gauntlet. The satisfaction of pushing someone over the edge and making him ragequit, and rubbing that screenshot in his face afterwards. Yeah, there's nothing quite like Quake.

So after idling for a couple of years, we finally decided to organise one more Stickrunners season for old times' sake. That's right. We're back in business and we're here to help you take your Sundays back. No more nagging lovers, no more tear jerkers you have to sit through pretending you're tough. No need to keep up appearances here. We know you're tough. All you have to do is make a stand and sign up by contacting us in #stickrunners on Quakenet.

I know, your first thought is "wtf?". It was mine too. I could not believe it either what a slacker you have been. I still can't. So here is what we are going to do to fix this:

Game: Quake 3 Arena (sad I needed to spell that for you)
Mode: OSP CTF 2v2
Time: every Sunday 21:00 CET
Maps: probably the usual - q3wcp18, q3wcp17, q3ctf1, q3wcp9, q3wcp1, q3wcp10
Other: 2 maps per round, timelimit 20, 1 round per Sunday, number of rounds depends on the signups

Looks good eh? I thought so too. Now signup @ #Stickrunners on Quakenet and claim your Sundays back!

Stickrunners Season 4 - FIGHT! (10 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 01:42 CDT, 28 September 2009 - iMsg
Stickrunners season 4 is about to start and we were very surprised of how many teams that actually signed up. We now have 16 teams and 2 divisions and we wont accept any more teams (I doubt there is any :]). The coverage of this season will be a bit weak since a lot of admins are playing both in div 1 and div 2, and since they're played at different times it's gonna be very hard to manage the GTV. So if there's anyone out there that would like to help us out with GTV this would be much appreciated. Like I said there's gonna be 2 divisions and some teams might not belong in division 1 but we had no choice to put some of the weaker teams in division 1, here's the results:

*Update* Schedule & lineups are now online and you can find them here.

Dont forget that we start this Sunday, 4th October. Once again I'd like to thank all the teams that signed up and made this happen and if you'd like to admin, give us a slap in our irc channel! GL & HF!

Stickrunners Season 4 or? (51 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 11:19 CDT, 15 September 2009 - iMsg
Head admin Belgium chatfragger decided to go for the 4th Stickrunners Q3CTF OSP season. "Even if only 4 clans sign up," he says, "we will fight till the very end! Quake 3 turns 10 years in December and we’ll still be around by then."

Signups are open. The league format is likely to be the same as the summer cup. That is 4v4 by default and 5v5 if both clans agree. Games are again planned for Sundays on the XS4ALL servers :)

You know the drill to join: send him a mail at chatfragger@fastmail.fm with the clan name, contact person and lineup.

We’re scheduled to start on Sunday October 4th.

Excello Quake Live Cup *UPDATE* (66 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 08:00 CDT, 7 September 2009 - iMsg
Update: After only a few days of open registrations and several big name signed up, we here at Excello have decided to revamp the tournament a little to make sure that everyone gets a chance to take part and only the best are included in the final tournament. First of all we have decided to close the registrations at 17:00 CDT, 12 September 2009. Once they're closed we will directly invite 16 players from the list to the final competition.

The other players will play in a Single Elimination BO3 style tournament for the remaining 16 spots. We feel that this suits the community best; seeing how everyone gets a chance to play and only the top tier players progress into the final tournament. The Selection Tournament will be held on the 13th of September at 11:00 CST.

Also, we have been thinking about changing the ZOWIE QL Cup to Double Elimination format; however, a decision has not yet been made and we appreciate any input you might have. - if so post something in the comments below the post.

Stickrunners Season 2 Registration (37 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 22:04 CDT, 7 April 2009 - iMsg
The second Stickrunners season is about to take off! The schedule is set to start on Sunday 19 April and finish on Sunday 17 May. It's only five match days because we noticed that it requires a lot of organization to keep things running smoothly. Since the exam period is starting in June, we'd like to finish in time. This means that we will only accept 18 teams in 3 divisions. We will look at the recent activity and time of registration to select the teams. Those who finished the previous season will automatically be accepted for the new one (except one perhaps, if all 19 teams wish to sign up). We are sorry that some will be disappointed, but we simply can't handle more in our free time. Good organization is what made last season so successful, we need to keep it manageable to continue providing a great league.

If you want to participate in this league check our site for more information!

Game: Quake 3 Quake 3 OSP/CTF 5on5
IRC channel: #Stickrunners
Homepage: Stickrunners
Servers: We will be using the same servers like last time, Netherlands XS4ALL.
GTV: Netherlands gtv.stickrunners.com

We at Stickrunners really hope that you'll sign up, frag some dudes/dudettes, cap some flags and just have fun, see you soon!

Posted by Kruzz @ 11:10 CDT, 4 April 2009 - iMsg
The first season of the new league Stickrunners is now over and we really enjoyed this and we hope to be back really soon with a new season of pure action. We would like to thank all the participating teams, Netherlands XS4ALL for helping us out with servers and gtv, all the admins and also Belgium chatfragger and Sweden DeViL who started this whole project. If you look down you can see some info about this season, all the review and also all the movies that we made, we made some "movie reviews" each week, we took the best caps and frags and put them in to a movie for about ~5min, added some music, nothing pro about them, simple movies with awesome intros!

Once again I'd like to thank all the people who made this happen and I really hope that you will be back for our next season (date not set yet!) and I hope you all have a nice summer and keep on fragging! GG WP all!

Sign up for BiG League Q3CTF (108 comments)
Posted by Kruzz @ 21:51 CST, 5 November 2008 - iMsg

This league will be a mix of the Jolt and the Clanbase leagues. It will be played at our own servers (gameservers.net) and the matches will be played at specific days and times, like Jolt. But it will be using a BO3 system with a play-off, like CB (atleast how it used to be). Depending on the number of signups there will be 1 or 2 divisions.

Signups are now open and if you want to sign your team you should send a mail to biggies.se (at) gmail.com with a full playerlist, signups will close November 14th.

Until QL beats Q3 we will continue with good old OSP Q3CTF and we hope you will join us and have an awesome time!
