However if you havn't yet, you have until 11am tommorow if you'd like to be considered both apart of this giveaway, and to the future growth of Level Up TV.
Donate on chipin.com or go ahead and click the donate button on the right hand side of our website
* 5 Keys will be given to the top 5 donators
* 45 Keys will be given to 45 donators (of any size donation) at random
All selected donators/donations will have their keys emailed to the paypal email address used via Kaspersky. This is our little thankyou to those who have financially supported our cause this weekend!
As an organisation, we are well aware of the difficulties that broadcasters often face when initially taking on the huge task of covering live events on-site, we hope that thus far you have enjoyed our first live event and hope that we can continue any successes through today and onto future events.
Thanks for watching our coverage this weekend!

i don't understand why we have qualifiers for LAN events when players can just simply say no if they win, or take forfeit wins / wins against players who would actually attend early on in the tournament when they 100% won't go themselves anyway.
Here's a theoretical situation:
You lose 2-1 to the winner of the tournament on the left side of the bracket, he turns down the invite - the 2nd place player on the right side of the tournament loses 2-0 in the final, however he now gets the place even though his loss was heavier than the first player who lost earlier on in the tournament, even if the left side player is better it doesn't matter, but then this 2nd place player also decides not to go but doesn't confirm that until the last minute... perhaps he was never intending to go anyway but just wanted to play in the tournament to ruin it for other people? So then some random guy at the tournament who didn't even take part in the qualifier plays instead, because he took a gamble.
I've seen it happen several times, and it's absolutely stupid.
TLDR version:
We need a better format to run these tournaments that won't allow people who will 100% not attend, play in them. Else just give direct NON-BYOC invites to some players, and then allow anyone else to turn up and play on the BYOC if they want too.

As an organisation, we are well aware of the difficulties that broadcasters often face when initially taking on the huge task of covering live events on-site, and as such we wouldn’t want to over promise and underachieve. However with an unquenchable thirst for coverage we can with full confidence promise to provide both our HQ and LQ livestream with special guest commentary from both pro-gamers and James "2GD" Harding (When we can get him away from the Stunlock Studios Stand!).
In addition to this, being on site will allow us to provide the supplementary video-on-demand content following the event that we've not yet previously had the opportunity to work on - such as; group interviews, Exhibition video tours and our teams evening antics to display that unique festival atmosphere DreamHack is so famous for.
If you have any comments regarding specific improvements we could make to our existing video streams, or any ideas on how you think we should cover DreamHack Winter 2010 then please direct your comments to
levelupyourgame@gmail.com or reply to this post.
This is our first live event and as such, our team are financing this on our own terms. However if you have thoroughly enjoyed the coverage we have brought to you thus far and would like to contribute toward the costs of the additional equipment we require to move toward live event coverage for the forseeable future then please, we welcome all donations through our counter on the right hand side of our website and here:

Level Up TV are a video broadcasting and commentary team with the goal of bringing live, high quality video coverage to both minor and major e-sports gaming events worldwide. Level Up TV had originally consisted of individuals who had each taken part in their respective game at a Premiership or equivalent level, a gap they identified as lacking within e-sport commentary at that time. Since it's inception in late 2009 however, the need to recognise new and upcoming talent to further the brand was recognised. This is how they will continue to build upon what we beleive is quite simply a unique contribution to the gaming community.
We hope that with the support of our viewers, we can continue our quick successes through the remainder of 2010 and onto 2011.

Hey guys, just playing with our streaming config (
www.levelupyourgame.net ) and trying to come up with a config that would provide the best video on demand service for other projects beside livestreaming of games. I know everybody seems to like the quality of our livestream and so i'm tempted to just keep picmip 16 and add in 100fps, and not have picmip 0.
Could you check the below video (720p) and tell me what you think of the config and picmip 0 please (not fps/smoothness and hud, although i'm aware that more fps would help and a better hud would help that's not the purpose of this thread!) It was uploaded in it's raw .avi format so it hasn't been re-encoded and thus and may run like complete garbage on some older systems, i don't know.

So i originally supported 5v5, I said it was better for noobs (less generic rape) and that it would increase regular activity ten fold. I was not wrong. Look at the pickups. But did i know that q3wcp1 would be the only map (99.9999999999%) everyone would play, no.
Some deluded OSP player seems to beleived that it was genuinely a good map about 8 years ago, and maybe it was, but there are other maps too (i won't go into the whole netcode differences between games and mods). I especially laughed when one of these so called castle fanboys said:
"but nVc, the old maps have been played to death"
COMEON.
Bring back 4v4, where more than just 1 fucking map was played.

Own3d experienced a few unexpected issues today with specific users accessing their streams, this was out of our control and..
..it meant that whilst d1ablo tried to fix it with the guys at own3d (he does a great job), i only managed to commentate one game before i had to go and provide the low quality stream (where my microphone does not work) for everyone via stream 3 (livestream.com/lvlup). This was not something i wanted to do as it's god damn boring not being able to talk or do anything (i don't have a laptop) but i did that so you guys didn't miss it.
The streams provided and recorded by the team here at Level Up TV worked as they should have, all of our HQ vod's are sitting on Trance's HDD and will be uploaded ASAP to
http://www.fileplay.net/channels/leveluptv
Some of us have taken the day off work so we can provide you with these games, so it would be nice if you could just provide constructive feedback to myself, trance or slasher via. private message on IRC so we can better address any issues you have, rather than me having to scroll through a vast amount of comments here on ESR.
To my knowledge, k1llsen didn't agree to a re-match against noctis, the admins forced it because the rest of the atendee's refused to play under the same conditions. That's all based on if my source is correct.
Thanks for your support and i hope you enjoy groups C and D tommorow as presented again by Slasher. I beleive Prozac and Thorin will also be around again.
So far we have had Cooller and strenx go through in group B (what a game!) and Rapha and noctis from group A.

Hey there guys, just a quick message before I head out for the day, most of you will be glad to hear (i hope) that we WILL be covering eswc!
The event will be presented by the awesome trio of;
- James "2GD" Harding,
- Marus "djWHEAT" Graham, and
- Rod "Slasher" Breslau
So really, can it get any better? :)
Not all of the commentators will be presenting the stream each day (for example, 2GD is away on business Thursday and Friday). However i'm currently under the impression that we'll have all of the trio available on Saturday!
I hope you all enjoy the event whilst i'm by the pool in Aiya Napa missing it all! If you have any questions direct them towards Trance who will be providing the HQ stream, or KM and Disrepute who'll be able to help in our irc channel.

So what now?

So what's the point in this post?
Well, I can atleast present you with the following details that i've drawn from their website in advance, so you can go ahead and get your days booked off work before it's too late! Those details are as follows:
The event is to be split into two parts:

It would be a one day cup covered by

What are your thoughts? Is Thursday ok?

Clanbase CTF NationsCup finished with the final rankings as follows:
1. France
2. Germany
3. Netherlands
4. Finland
From this, voting took place to find the 2 "best" players from each of the 4 finalist nations to give the list below:
// FRANCE
[FR] linkje
[FR] Bed3g3
// GERMANY
[DE] abso
[DE] ischju
// NETHERLANDS
[NL] draven
[NL] Sc00T
// FINLAND
[FI] wit
[FI] kekkie
The game is going to essentially work like a pickup, 2 captains; [FR] link1n & [NL] draven will pummel (gauntlet) with 100hp/100arm and the winner decides to either pick first player or eliminate first map etc.
Commentary will be provided by KM, Fragmaster (streamer), nVc, Disrepute, Vor and whoever else shows up on mumble, which is usually draven and ischju but they're playing :D

Hi, is there any alternative to HIDUSBF? My XAI is crap and i want to go back to my beloved 3.0. Whenever i try and use HIDUSBF, regardless of installation methods, my mouse stops functioning on restart.. and i have to retrace my steps to enable it again.
For those who are thinking about buying the mouse;
- mousewheel squeaks like a real mouse.
- they still managed to mess up the WMO shape, the sides slop inwards too early, likely a result of side buttons both sides.
- mouse hz is not stable, probably why the accel is so fucked more than originally intended (500 will jump to 1000, 1000 will jump to 1200). You dont get this on other mice that use this sensor.
- steelseries software has stopped detecting my mouse "no steelseries xai detected".
- you cant change 1-5 profiles without the dpi resetting to 5001, so you need to edit everything on one profile.
- when using 1 profile, the 2 on-the-fly dpi settings must be equal to eachother, else in the middle of the game it will change all by itself and you'll end up doing a 1080degrees spin, or a 2 degrees spin, depending on if the second setting is faster/slower.
- customer support has pretty much ignored my messages for 3 months.
- steelseries recently put up public forums, i posted about how shit steelseries were, 2 people agreed with me, and now they have removed the forums from their website.
I've tried to get used to it for a while, and i got to the point where i could almost comfortably use it, but every 2 weeks a new problem arose until i built that almighty list above. Steelseries has the worst customer support, the worst programmers, and the worst product designers i've ever experienced in a company, most likely the result of GCSE students who scraped a C in their studies. Their only good products are those they obtained elsewhere through buying out the company involved.
Do not buy from this BAD company. I have nothing good to say about them except that their marketing team is good at talking bullshit, you could probably sue these guys through the advertisement agency, i'm 99% sure. Although i'm more certain of doing heavier damage to their reputation through witty forum threads like this, than any other method that i simply can not be bothered to pursue.

First:
Can an admin rename me to "warpVc", instead of "nVc"
Apparantly people seem to think that they will rip me apart if i didnt lag, so it would be fitting if i could bear a name that would accurately represent my ability to play computer games init yo homie bros.
Second:
ps. the old level up domain is broken, you can still use
www.levelupyourgame.net (it's being redirected to livestream.com/lvlup but it might take a while). Within the next 10 days we'll have our new website online. Our old host moved servers and the old one is giving trojan warnings, if you've visited the site in the last 3-5 hours run a scan or something :\ Although it's most probable that nothing has infected you.. just do it incase :)

I've just got to send them some test results through some avago programs they've attached in the email, and hopefully we may see a XAI fix soon on the accel front :)

Power Gaming:
We have a good feeling about this match, even though TCM picked badlands and they have been quite good in it lately. We decided to pick gravelpit again and now I hope we have learned from last gravelpit and we are not doing the same mistakes again. cp_well as decider should be an advantage for us as we beat them twice in it last time.
TCM Gaming:
Once again we meet pwr this month, and the good thing that comes out of all this matches we played is that we cant predict the winner. Both teams have been playing equally good and I can only expect this match to be as good as the previous ones. Lately with all the officials we didnt have time to sort specific tactics to the grand final maps, but I am confident that everyone on my team knows their role and we can't expect nothing less th

So far, i like it, great glide and feels like a mixture between my old qpad ct and qck heavy. It has a similar feel to the razer goliathus speed but alot thicker (4mm) which is nice, but it also means it shares the same dire properties :( i.e.
BAD lift-off distance with some mice
-------------------------------------------------
Now, i don't know why people rave about this pad so much when they use deathadders, it's not a fault of the pad however, more so the deathadder and it's crappy lens system for the amazing avago sensor. This mouse works best with a LOD fix (tape... long story), or just white mousepads.
With an intellimouse it's good, and with a steelseries xai it's good, from what i can see it's basically everything that isn't an infrared sensor. But i thought since many people use infra red sensors at the moment, i should highlight this issue clearly.
FINAL VERDICT
----------------------
I am going to use it over my QcK heavy (that i usually use) because i use my xai and not deathadder, and i like the quicker glide (and it comes with washing machine instructions). Time will tell if it's as durable as people say though... but right now on an intellimouse and avago 9500 sensor, it's the best pad i've used.
That said, i ordered 2 of them, and only 1 has arrived, whether the other will come in a seperate box is yet to be seen but i highly doubt it considering it's come all the way over from America. I've sent them an email and we'll see what they say.
**update** they are going to send out another one asap ^^ 10/10 customer service.
10/10 with intellimouse/xai/g9x/g500
3/10 with the deathadder/salmosa sensors, however if you fix the liftoff yourself, 10/10 there too!
Hope that tiny review helps someone

Ok, so you may have read my thread titled: "So you're sick of nvc and his warp".
Well, the upgrade to UBR was supposed to be completed in January, however it turned out that it needed more work than was initially planned, and now i can expect completition on the 22nd March.
So basically what they are saying is that although i finish university on 8th February, i can't play quake or stream until the 22nd of March, looks like it's going to be all work and no play.
I have a meeting with the head tech guy on 16th February to try and resolve it quicker, but as these things always go, i do not expect more than a few £££ compensation.
In summary; "Great..."
How this relates to you:
Although i cannot play or stream until the 22nd, I will still be able to provide commentary along with Disrepute. However as snelvovve has a social life (and still playing CTF for k1ck) he's not always avalable and this ofcourse means that we at level up are searching for +1 video streamer to provide the feed until i can do it myself again (unless ofcourse you enjoy so much that you want to continue helping us!)
Minimum requirements:
- Dual Core 2.0ghz
- Over 0.7mb upload
Preferred requirements (HD):
- Quad Core 2.6ghz+
- Over 1.3mb upload
If you'd like to help out, contact me on IRC after 19:00GMT, just think of helping out as another way to watch the same games that you'd be watching anyway :P

Thanks

Hi, maybe not the most appropriate place but for the NC captains, you should know that i have removed myself from the UK team as captain.
i.e. for practice and officials, contact disrepute and/or #ql.uk

I'll still ofcourse provide coverage through levelup

Majority do not give a damn, but there are a few people knocking around that do use my quake live one, included is the updated quake live autoexec.cfg as of 30th January. I've stopped playing Quake Live for the time being so this will be my last update until Virgin Media decide to fix my internetz, so if anyone here is using it you'll have to pay attention to the update next week and add the next commands yourself. For now, see you in #cpmpickup hehe :)
Make sure you open the quake live one up in notepad and change r_mode and r_displayrefresh to your preferred resolution and refresh rate before running it. have also included the levelupyourgame.net stream config (just a modification of the autoexec.cfg). It's pretty nice for viewing demos and what not.

OK HOW DO I START...
Quake live i have;
- 16:10 1680x1050
- cg_fov 100
- sensitivity 1.44 (1620dpi)
- in_mouse 2
Now, because QL does not scale the fov according to aspect ratio (This is one feature that i absolutely love), my sensitivity stays the same, regardless of which aspect ratio i use, providing the fov is the same.)
i.e. 16:10 @ 1670x1050 and cg_fov 100, is the same as 4:3 @ 1024x768 @ cg_fov 100, except the 16:10 provides extra horizontal viewing.
Where as in CPMA, i have to increase the fov to calculate for the scaling issue when changing aspect ratio, thus bringing me to my problem of sensitivity.
Due to my lack of motivation to actually play quake live, i want to go back to my ways of #cpmpickup - but i'd like to gain the same performance in my mouse on both games.
My intellectual side has brought my cpma settings to:
- 16:10 1680x1050
- cg_fov 110.07368389795
- in_mouse 2
BUT... what would my sensitivity be? Does using raw mouse input (in_mouse 2) mean that 1.44 is exactly the same regardless of which fov used - or is it still effected by it? If so, can somebody give me the relevant calculation.
To summarise, if i have /sensitivity 1.44 in cg_fov 100, what sensitivity should i have for cg_fov 110.07368389795
Thanks in advance.

Boys and girls, just a friendly top tier CPM player here for yet another thread.
Multiplay i39 - Newbury, England: April 2-5th
Anyone going? I'm probably there to play some Team Fortress 2 or Call of Duty 4, so it would be cool to try and get a few other quakers there since i spend the majority of my time playing quake inbetween the matches as it's a rarity that i can play with a good connection! (yes, beleive it or not i do not warp for 1 weekend every 4 months :D:D)
Spent a few hours playing with GaRpY at i37, xanhast was at i34, can't remember if there has been anyone else but it's always a giggle. Would be cool to get down there and play some theoretical LAN quake! Wouldn't even mind just going to play some quake, and then dominating the pub quiz with my seemingly intellectual brain (+ you), if there were a few of us ofcourse. So call it a bootcamp if you're pro.
Obviously it's been a good couple of years since the Q4 tournament at i31 i think it was, but dignitas.ODEE did say that he was 99% positive on there being some form of quake, since he works for multiplay, but nothing has been announced yet and i doubt it will (he ignores my spam on irc). But that said, at the very least - you can expect to win a few prizes on the exhibition stands! (sf4, l4d2, ql, blablabla) - Atleast i have done so before because i'm super good at computer games, meaning you can too! :)

If players are interested, hop into #lvl^ and message me "nVc" - i'm available every night after 18:00GMT. I don't expect a massive turnout but the more the better! :) Seating can easily be arranged, with earlier organization on that note obviously being better.

Today the Level Up management received this awesome news:
"Congratulations on winning the Livestream Channel Page Design Contest.
We have additionally decided to give you the option to waive the overage fees (incurred over the initial 25GB) by allowing us to put the ads on after the limit has been passed. You will still have access to all of the Premium features, but won't be charged for the bandwidth usage or storage space."
This ofcourse means that we now support:
- Custom Aspect Ratio's & Resolutions (upgrade from 4:3 & 640x480)
- An upload cap of 1.7mb/s (upgrade from 500kb/s)
i.e. We can now stream full HD Quake Live!!!
This is all thanks to the community efforts of websites such as you guys here at ESReality.com - we can't thank you guys enough.
See: http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=1808315
So i'll conclude by asking you guys to please bear with us as our streamers make the necessary adaptations to their current setups over the next few weeks to support this new platform!

Pro's
1 - Ambidextrous (much easier to control small movements as the mouse is smaller)
2 - On mouse profiles (the LCD is actually more useful than you would think, now i really don't need to install drivers on LAN to check if my DA was doing it's job
3 - Perfect tracking on all surfaces, each with only 1cd lift-off (qpad ct, razer goliathus speed/control, steelseries qck heavy), zero skipping.
4 - Although useless, all the stuff i turned off is nice to be displayed in the drivers i.e. prediction and if accel disable worked.. that too. Bringing me to my first con..
Con's
1 - Accel (which is funny because steelseries say this in their drivers:
(1a) Some games and applications have you working on a huge 2D mousing environment with resolution of 1900x1200 (or even higher), not to mention multi-screen setups. In these specific cases you can either configure the SteelSeries Xai to operate with very high CPI values or you can utilize hardware acceleration. With acceleration you can bridge large distances quickly, while still being able to work flawlessly in small
areas of the screen, without having to switch your CPI with the CPI toggle all the time. The main difference between this setting and Windows acceleration is that this setting is running in
the hardware. Not only are you able to turn it on and off, you are also able to set the degree of dynamic acceleration that is applied.
Recommended use: Most gamers will probably find that a setting in the lower region should be more than enough, but if you’re a real speed freak you can turn it up high. For FPS gamers and games with a 3D mousing environment we recommend not using acceleration.
(1b)Leaving the Windows Pointer Speed at the default 6th notch (middle setting) is highly recommended, since setting it to anything else will add a fixed amount of acceleration to your pointer movements, which will reduce your precision and accuracy with any input device - including SteelSeries Xai. We introduced SteelSeries ExactSens to free people from this and all other software interpolation, enabling you to operate with true hardware based sensitivity settings for maximum precision and accuracy. We repeat, we highly recommend you leave this setting at the default 6th notch.)
So SS... Why can't i turn it off ffs?! I do both of those and i'm not an idiot. 5-10percent Accel is not nice, especially when it's unexpected so why lie to me? Have i just paid £47 for something that you have lied about.. or rather.. made your preference over but not actually gone through with meeting your own research needs?! Or are you clever by trying to do a razer and am i going to see Xai v2 next week?
2 - I occasionally touch the right side buttons with my little fingers - no problem though as they are unbound.
Conclusion
If they fix the accel i'd use the mouse, i could get used to the shape if it was consistant movement as although not identical to the Microsoft WMO, i still like it. But after using a deathadder for over 2 years now.. i have to say.. they really did get it perfect with 1800dpi and the 1.28 NDC no prediction fix.
As i LAN quite alot, i love the profile setup and LCD... but if you advertise that as a feature, i expect NO ACCEL to actually work. Sort it, or atleast make a statement before you lose a customer in the next 10 days as i RMA it.

... a new mouse!
Previously i used a WMO, before moving to a 1.1a and finally a 3.0. I have no idea which i liked best but i have always hit around the same accuracies with all of them. I then tried the logitech mice which was a big no no... so i moved to the 3.0 wannabe; 'razer deathadder', which i have always hated but it has non-accel sensor and the drivers that have meant it has worked on all OS' and at all LAN's without effort (i can't count the amount of mouse related issues my teammates have had with other brands, especially microsoft, at lan!)
So i've marrowed my choices down to:
Steelseries XAI (see my previous thread)
Razer Imperator
Obviously i'm not really prepared to spend that much on a mouse, it's only a mouse.. right?! So i'll find other means in getting the prices down, but does anyone here have any thoughts on the Imperator?! i.e. Have you tried it?!
I've heard it uses the crappy phillips twin something sensor and it's awfully jittery in tracking... but it's a refined 3.0 shape, and as much as I deep down, hated the DA shape compared to a 3.0, i'm almost compelled to stick with razer since it has saved me so many hours!
I just need:
- no positive/negative accelleration
- no skipping
- no prediction
- drivers that remove all of the above and work on all windows OS' - both 32 and 64.

Hi guys,
I want to firstly apologise for our current lack of coverage here at level up tv, we're all young and handsome men with many things to do and an epic amount people to see (i.e. play the game ourselves).
To compensate i have done a few TDM map tutorials for the newer players amongst us, as we need more blood in our community playing real game modes (yes i know cpm > ql). So they are designed to get a newer team started, although to be fair i think the qzdm14 one will help the majority of teams considering the amount of mistakes i often see teams do on this map.
But regardless, visit
http://levelupyourgame.net and navigate through our 'on-demand' section to find the tutorials under the quake live folder.
Maps available thus far include:
-qzdm6
-qzdm7
-qzdm14
Upper level players will already be familiar with most of what's included in the videos, i spent zero time preparing and i went off what was in my head at the time, each vid is approximately 7 minutes in length and includes such detail as
-key areas for holding/pushing/bottlenecking
-how you should do the above
-key spawn points in said areas
-the positional rail aim spots
-typical setup that you'll find hidden beneath 75% of teams.
note: CESS = To constantly attack an area for any length of time, with whatever weapon you pick up in the process of going from your spawn to said area.
I hope that will do for now :) If you have any questions or things you think i have missed and can include in another version, leave a comment. The most important point i need to make however, is that these strats are almost static, please bear in mind that you will need somebody who is prepared to take the lead role on comms if you want to add abit of flair :) ...and that takes practice!
To put aside all of the flame;
fluff - you're better than me
kilem - i'm going to i39, you can strangle me there
ini - you are more intelligent
liam - you are larger than me
Think that's it...
love nvc.

Stage 1: UK MIXES
Here, anybody is welcome to signup and play, whether you're good, bad, pretty or ugly (or pretty ugly). The UK Mixes are essentially to bring the community together rather than sit in irc all day, however i will be playing and watching aswell so you could otherwise refer to it as a trial if you wish, if you let me know beforehand and play well, you are put on a "theoretical shortlist" for stage 2 where i'll decide on the final lineups. I want to get this over with as soon as possible as there are some other nations that are practicing already and it would be cool to atleast play a couple of games before Week 1.
The dates are as follows:
MIXDAY#1: 01/12/2009 @ 20CET+
MIXDAY#2: 03/12/2009 @ 20CET+
To take part, all you have to do is turn up in #ql.uk on quakenet at 19:30CET, the requirement for playing is that you have a working microphone and have mumble installed (the faster, ventrilo alternative: http://mumble.sourceforge.net ) - once installed, enable "expert config" from within the setup and make sure you turn off the overlay to prevent personal rage when you can't see the timer or scores.

Alright pro gamers,
It's that time of the year again where the UK Quake community will make little to no effort in selecting a new Captain and running our traditional trials for player selection.
Current Captains:
TDM: TBA
CTF: exec/derailed.styl0r
CA: k1ck/dignitas.zsx
Requirements for TDM Captain Selection:
- A single player can only captain the team once i.e. a new captain for each Nationcup (probably Q1/Q2 & Q3/Q4 of 2010.
- Has had higher level experience in TDM.
** Previous Q3 Captains are still welcome to apply.. different game **
Will be responsible for:
- Selection of players for the UK squad
- Organising/Playing in the Nationcup
If you want to be involved in the trials for player selection, or take part in the captaincy vote, hop into #ql.uk on quakenet and wait for more information. Anybody is welcome provided they are a UK national (hense the writing of this post). So even if you just want to have a couple of games with the best of breed, you're more than welcome.

As I'm playing for derailed instead of k1ck in the EMS I am able to bring you guys this great match-up in week 2 of the EMS5 TDM:
K1ck eSports vs LowLandLions (Bet / Match details)
The Lineups:K1ck eSports: eden, abso, GaRpY, zsx
LowLandLions: draven, forever, dem0n, Q50, rax
This game is going to literally come down to the amount of TDM both teams have played in the last month or so, with both teams being almost as inactive as each other in Team Death Match, I am going to look deeper into the factors that will effect this game’s outcome as best I can.. The most important point to mention is that both teams have strong hit scan aimers.
“In order to keep up with these guys (and myself :D), you are going to have to be hitting no less than 40% machine gun (and that's before you actually pick up a weapon, so probably 25% of your time). A tip for you new quake players would be to play a couple of hours FFA a day, just running around with a machine gun to get to this sort of standard! “
In this match-up, I would put money on k1ck just slightly over edging the Lions when it comes to individual death-matching ability. draven and rax would be more than capable to hold their own but I feel that the other 3 Lions will struggle against abso, zsx and eden. Players such as GaRpY from the k1ck side and dem0n from the Lions are putting more hours into quake, especially duel, and they could prove to be strong individuals, but I personally (in no disrespect) do not yet believe they are at the top of their potential games.
Thus map aim will be especially important and as such, the Lions are going to have to outsmart them tactically in order to make full use of the easy shots (such as pixel point rails, getting to quad early to hit the first rocket etc to prevent over-cessing and just well, death!)
My prediction is that DM6, DM7 & DM14 will be played as both teams have some confident players from a Quake 3 background (at one point or another), and judging by “QL activeness”, new maps to the competitive scene such as DM20 & CA2 will not have at all been considered, or played enough by either side.
Final Score:
K1ck: 2 – 1 :LLL

Can't say i'm not suprised that there are none of these maps in Quake Live yet, but damnnnnnnnnnnnn, wouldn't it be the cheaper option of updating the game?!
e.g. Where are the "sandstorm" (
link ) and "over the edge" (
link ) ports for quake live? I was also hoping to see a heavily remixed phrantic (
link ) to suit quake live gameplay by now (with the weaker LG and no crouch slide it would be interesting to see how it would play out.. although i fear PG would ruin it without an extra tele out of red (amongst other things).
There were also several quake 4 maps that played really well in FFA! (such as this one
link dm11) - I'm sick of dm6 and dm7 (not to mention that crappy one with the quad in some grenade room) being voted 24/7 on pubs.
Alternative they could just remove that stupid map vote so i can actually play a longer rotation!??!?!?!?!
Well, atleast i think they are ID maps!? (Phrantic probably isn't)
Each time i play a little bit of TDM i sortof want to play it more, but then the team 9 times out of 10 asks to replay dm6 and i, not just to please ESR, always want to throw myself out of a window.
I get it though, they are working on other things, but remaking a map based on their very own isn't as much effort as running a community map pack competition... they could even release them as "beta_q4dm11"... even without textures just to see how it plays. Though they might already do that in the focus group :)

Remember that tasty prizefund we had back at i31 or whatever it was for Q4? Cadred.org have just opened up an "Ask Craig Fletcher, the top man at multiplay" post in which you can put forward your questions, and should they be selected, Craig will address them in the following weeks.
I know some of the multiplay staff are actively pushing for Quake, and with i38 coming up in November, it would probably be a good idea to sign up to the site and ask whether we will see a return of quake to i-events, it'll take 5 minutes of your time and it could well benefit us all :)

benchmark: Viewsonic vx2268wm vs. iiyama vision master pro 454
- vx2268 has on screen display
- vx2268 has speakers (not great but their nice for what they are)
- vx2268 has almost no backlight bleed (i see none)
- vx2268 has a crappy stand since they added the ability to lean it forward and backward, so if you have a wobbly table it will suck4u
- vx2268 allows you to change brightness/contrast in 120hz
- vx2268 pre-driver installation doesn't allow you to run 120hz in non-native resolution, only 1680x1050.. i cba to install them yet
- vx2268 has 0ms input lag :) ->
http://nvcgamer.eu/images/vx2268 <-
- vx2268 actually looks equal too, if not better than the crt... moving the mouse in small circles and looking at quake live adverts looks the same, and watching people on dm17 bouncepads @ quakelive (crt give's a colour blur, lcd doesn't)
** update **
- 120hz works just fine in non-native resolutions through your graphics cards' control panel
- can't minimize quake live to browser for some reason - just black screen... however it will run in browser if i start it in browser initially, but then when i fullscreen and then minimize.. the same black screen

Top tier gamer nvc is about to make his way to multiplay's i37 (

I have a date with a player and a samsung 2233rz 120hz lcd at some point over the weekend, will update this thread with a little review in comparison to my iiyama vision master pro 454 @ 120hz that i'm taking with me on quake live, unless i can pursuade him to let me transfer cpm from usb memory stick anyway.
I know there's a fair few players interested in them, and with the release of the viewsonic vx2268 just around the corner with a rumoured 0ms input lag to match it's US equivelant, the vx2265, it should help a few of you in making a more educated decision, myself included.
If anyone is about i'll be sat in AT-15, or grab me on irc: #cpmpickup for some quake

Hi there, as a hardcore gamer i am really looking forward to your new Viewsonic VX2265WM Fuhzion monitor, i've been using a CRT at 120hz from ever since i can remember, and also I have you're VX2260WM sat next to me running my PS3.
As it goes i do not care for this new 3d technology malarky, i see that Samsung refuses to sell it's monitor without the glasses at the moment, I know that your viewsonic does... i also know that your viewsonic has zero input lag and the samsung averages at about 10 however it is nowhere to be found in the UK.. why this is?
If i had to be straight with you, i guess i'm writing this email to firstly ask for a FREE viewsonic vx2265wm mailed to:
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Failing that, could you possibly give me a date on its UK release?... Or information on a reseller i could speak to on getting one imported if it is going to be a long wait... I am impatient.
Thanks

From Viewsonic:
Many thanks for your email enquiring about our product VX2265wm. This product must have been purchased via the USA. It will not be
brought into the UK as it does not meet our stringent CE regulations. The version we will have in Europe will be the New improved VX2268wm.
This model will be manufactured in June and 1st shipments arrive in the UK in August. The model will be 120hz and improved 3D ready.
The 3D glasses will be sold separately as an option. The potential graphics card is thought to be NVIDIA.
I hope that you will be able to wait to purchase this upgraded model to your VX2265wm and that you enjoy the new VX2268wm even more.

The only thing everybody is complaining about with the viewsonic vx2265wm is it's lack of OSD (which probably causes it to fail the regs at a guess as you have to change colours etc through your graphics card drivers) and also the lack of Inputs - 1x dvi like the samsung (which makes the price stupid high for what you get).. hopefully they'll be revising both.
i can't wait, hopefully the VX2268WM will match up to the VX2265WM specs... i tried the samsung 2233rz at lan (going from my iiyama vision master pro 454 at 120hz - and it was pretty good on TF2 as scout and Left4Dead.
I'm not sure how these 120Hz LCD's will perform in cpm... but there will be no monitor whine at lan for vq3, especially if they use these viewsonic models with zero input lag. I know they are pretty active within the gaming scene in the US (MLG HALO etc) so i can't see why the quake tours can't start using them.
Though if you're buying one of these just for quake, don't. Just stick with a 4:3 CRT, you can buy one of them on ebay for approx 0.33* of the cost.
£3 vs £300... i've got 3.
As for those glasses, you can use them with any screen aslong as you have a supported NVIDIA card, it'll half your screens Hz so make sure you can run 120Hz or you'll get headaches.
Also make sure you have almost equal vision in both your eyes else they won't work either.. kinda flawed.
cya.

I know alot of you nvc haters do not care for either me or quake live, i love you.
However for those that do care some of the Quake Live UK Team trials were played yesterday for TDM (Last time the trials were held for vanilla quake at the beginning of Quake 4)
If you're not a fan of the concept of TDM or vanilla quake then i'd like to point you in the direction of what many will remember Redeye and Tosspot casting a couple years ago at covlan, a q4 tdm game between 4k and dignitas:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=54276...&hl=en
The team is to be picked on Sunday but i believe there is another set of trials before it, I'd appreciate it if you make their evenings hell by having a bash and although there isn't space to spec - due to the server limits - if some of you want to see how you level up to a few of the current best (or active) UK players in the scene, a reason why they are held.. i am sure you're quite welcome to jump into #ql.uk on quakenet and make your name known to Disrepute who is administering them as yesterday we had to mix up the players between games.

whenever i post, i get one of 3 possible outcomes, for some, this broken site comes as a miracle to stop people like me replying to your threads, for others, its just annoying:
1) it posts nothing and takes me to a completely random page, sometimes the latest news page
2) it posts something but on that completely random page
or
3) by some miraculous event it actually works
:( stupid site!

does anyone else other than me think that an AGP TDM Tour would be far more successful than a 1v1 tour?! i guess the whole principle of the tour is to promote 1v1 fps which is fair enough but imo the reason why 1v1 keeps failing is because half the 1v1 players cant play the game without some form of tdm.
this arguement relating to tournaments not promoting enough 1v1 imo is rubbish... they get players every event, the same players mind you, but why hasnt anyone actually explored the possibility that 1v1 is anti-social and quite honestly, turns people emo?!... or mainly just the reason that its difficult for any player to break into the scene on his own (yes you may think i mean me... but i don't) Maybe 10 1v1 players entry fee's help fund nothing when compared with 10x 4 players in a tdm team? honestly i dont know... but...
if this tournament is to succeed i really i hope they also hold TDM :( team games are needed to keep 1v1 alive, period.

ok first i would like to point out i can do them... i was just hoping for an explanation of why it happens?!
if you have no idea what i mean then watch some demos of good players for example, on ztn, they drop from RL and take MH clipping the wall to keep their speed, or go through YA teleport, drop down stairs, clip left corner of column and into the stairwell where they clip the right wall corner and end up pretty much on RL!
if i understand the method correctly, you strafejump away from the corner just before you hit it.... so timing your jump as close to the wall is the way it works... jump too early and you fail??
surely, you should just hit it and stop? so why dont you? hurting my head trying to work it out :D

i have a problem regarding higher gamma in fullscreen mode... i have had it for a long time.. and just put up with it by playing lower gamma... but anyway:
it appears as if the textures are..., i dont know how to describe it see for yourself:
in game:

in game - windowed:
http://i28.tinypic.com/25u2kv5.gif
menu:
http://i25.tinypic.com/2zpmazt.gif
menu - windowed:
http://i29.tinypic.com/24pkmcm.gif
as you can see, in window mode its fine
r_ignorehwgamma "1" fixes this problem for fullscreen mode ie. when i set the gamma using nvidia control panel
But it would be nice if anyone knows a quick fix rather than me trying to set up several colour profiles or changing the gamma every time i boot up the game.
help! :D

as the title says, where the hell are they?! nothing has been announced and the UK ESWC site still has 2007's quake 4 details!
Surely it cannot be that difficult to arrange the qualifiers online or offline?!
