RATZ Instagib 2.0 (16 comments)
Posted by f0cus @ 10:33 CST, 18 February 2015 - iMsg
I've been having fun with this game. It's very much a casual, not too serious shooter, and I love the simplicity and really enjoy the aesthetic. It reminds me a very great deal of Quake 2 instagib with the maps where you're tiny and running around a kitchen or something, but every map is like that.

Anybody else tried this game? It's a lot of fun, and coming from Quake you get a huge advantage right off the bat.

Since it's so common as to be annoying at times, is there any way that the Media/Files section be crossposted to from the latest posted pro configs? Typically these are found in event-specific posts, but that often takes a bit of digging to get to.

I've been playing a lot of tribes:ascend beta lately, and the transition from Q4 with it's ramp jumps and crouchsliding has been nearly seamless for me. I was looking up some of the perk comparisons today when I came across this video. I know the Quake purists will have plenty of complaints, but just give it a look at least.

My favorite part is the cap n swap from 1:59 to 2:15. Absolutely sick.

Is anyone using this mouse? It looks like a couple of my main complaints about the DA *(I've owned 3) are addressed and resolved. One being liftoff distance, and another being the thumb buttons are raised enough that I won't accidentally click them midfight.
Any input would be appreciated.

Hardware upgrade suggestions (nVc) (24 comments)
Posted by f0cus @ 10:25 CDT, 6 April 2011 - iMsg
Somebody convince me that more than 2 cores is better for GAMING than a higher clock rate. Please cite actual examples with links. E.G. Crysis does not run better on 4 cores than 2. Are there enough games that do that it would be worth "upgrading" from 2 cores running at 4.4ghz?

I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade GPU from a GTX280 or upgrade CPU from an e8600 @4.4ghz

I'm also currently only running 3gigs of ram, so I'm definitely getting more, but wanted to decide if I'm getting more DDR2 or if I upgrade CPU types I'd need to go with DDR3. If I just update the GPU then I'll just get a couple of 2gig sticks and run 5gigs of ram.

Earbuds? (21 comments)

Can anyone suggest some comfortable earbuds with half decent sound quality? I don't need them to be too nice, I'll just be wearing them at work, but the ones I currently have hurt my ears.
I'm hoping for something under 50 bucks, and something you wouldn't mind wearing for hours at a time.
Suggestions?

I'm trying to find the most recent config collection from whatever event that was. Unfortunately, I don't remember what it was called. I tried just going through the "All Forums" list while ctrl+F'ing "config", but that didn't find anything either.
Does anyone know where I can find the latest config pack ? Or at least remember which event it was that it was included in?

Need advice for a replacement mouse (11 comments)
Posted by f0cus @ 11:53 CDT, 20 August 2010 - iMsg
Yes yes, I know this is yet another mouse thread. Hear me out.

Okay, here's my problem. I've been a huge fan of the MS IE 3.0 since I got my first one years ago. Since then I've also owned the G5 (using that at work now), the G9, the D.A. and an MX518.

SP2 is no longer receiving security updates from MS, and it's actually become an issue with my newb gf using my computer a lot lately. Well, SP3, and Vista and 7 are all much more complicated adjusting the usb polling rate above 125hz for the MS 3.0.

So, I guess it's finally time to move on. I really can tell a big difference, personally, between 125hz and 500hz with this particular type of mouse.

I currently have a dual boot setup with Xp pro sp2 and vista ult 64.
I'm going to scrap the vista and upgrade that boot up to 7, and I'm probably going to keep using Xp for quake, but will go to Sp3.

What mouse would be most comparable? I don't like the side grips on the death adder, it's just uncomfortable after a relatively short amount of time playing (compared to the 3.0)

I have big hands, and I really can't use the really small mouses without getting hand cramps.

I'm really leaning towards the Ikari Optical, due to it being optical, capable of 500hz out of the box, and the shape.
All suggestions welcome

I'm getting it from work and home, so it's not specific to the computer or connection.

Need a new mouse (53 comments)

My newer Intellimouse 3.0 finally went to poop this past week. It started with single left clicks registering as double-clicks, then developed to the point that the tracking went absolutely haywire.

Is there any other mouse to try yet? My hands are too big for the WMO, but the I.E. 3.0 is perfect.

Any suggestions appreciated.

the next mouse I'm trying out (6 comments)

http://www.techpin.com/best-computer-mouse/

I've used almost every mouse out there in my 20 years of computer usage. (1st computer was a Tandy 1000)
I currently prefer the IE 3.0, but I've owned or tried god only knows how many.
My earliest "gaming" mouse was a Boomslang ball mouse. I've also tried or owned the WMO, MX518, DeathAdder, Diamondback, mx300, sidewinder, G9 and I use my logi G5 at the office.
I have to say, while I still prefer my 400dpi (only have 1680x1050 res) I would consider trying the higher 800dpi if this mouse is as comfortable as it looks.

I tried the search (fuck off trolls) but that didn't help. I'd rather not have to roll back to SP2 (again) so if anyone has seen anything like this, please drop a link in the comments, and you will most certainly be doused with a million [+]es for your good deed.

SetDeviceGammaRamp Failed (4 comments)

?? I get the error "setdevicegammaramp failed" whenever I try to make a graphical adjustment on my most recent install of Quake 3. I'm currently using the CNQ3 launcher to bring it up, unless I'm going to be playing defrag.
There's also some weird texture issue going on, that I'll SS in a moment.

Has anyone ever seen this error before? Know of a fix?

Giving up on the Death Adder (78 comments)
Posted by f0cus @ 12:01 CDT, 10 June 2008 - iMsg
Well, for now at least, I'm giving up on the Razer Death Adder. I've replaced the horrible stock mousefeet with the Hyperglides I ordered from overseas, so that's good, but ...

I'm still getting the 'stair effect' in paint with it, and I also have some weird delay that feels a lot like mouse smoothing. I don't actually have smoothing enabled in the razer drivers nor any of my games. I have tried running it without installing the drivers but that delay is still there. It's most noticeable when using the railgun, as I'm primarily a flick shot railer.
The easiest way to describe what it feels like when railing with the D.A. is to compare it to Quake 2's railgun. There's that momentary delay between pressing the button and the actual rail firing. It feels just like that, but it's doing this in Q3 and Q4.

I know that a lot of people use this mouse, and if there's an actual fix I'd love to hear about it. In the meantime I'm back to using my I.E. 3.0 @ 500hz.

Ok, I'm another one of those guys...

I presently own three monitors, 2 of which are my primary, and one is kind of a spare, we won't talk much about that one.

Monitor 1- NEC Mutlisync FE992 CRT. This is a 19" monitor with a max res of 2048x1536 @ 60hz, I typically game on it at 800x600 because I get 160hz at that res.

Monitor 2- Samsung 226BW LCD. This is a 22" 16:10 monitor at 1680x1050 @ 60hz with a 2ms response time. I typically game at native res (1680x1050) due to the massive negative impact on response time that going out of native resolution causes.

So, basically I'm frequently swapping out monitors, since I love playing quakeworld, cpm, defrag, and q4 at over 60fps, but at the same time, games like Crysis, and valve games like HL2 and TF2 look amazing at 22".

I'm kinda thinking about going Dual Monitor again, like I had it when I first got the LCD as can be seen in my post here-
http://www.truecarnage.com/forum/viewthread.p...rowstart=0

But, having to swap in Display options between which monitor I wanted as main display was getting tedious.
What would you do?
