Danish Quake Live - creating a community (32 comments)
Posted by predr @ 15:43 CDT, 1 August 2009 - iMsg
This journal thingy caters primarily, if not only, to Danish Quake Live players, so feel free to skip the read and post a hilarious comment, if you aren't one of those.

The thing is, Quake Live is getting fun (oh no, he didn't), and it's always more fun when you have someone to do it with, and, for some reason, it's also more fun when these people talk your native language. This last fact drove us to create the Danish quake3newb community which some of you might know about, and now we're trying to do the same thing with Quake Live.

Therefore, this community is based around IRC and, in particular, #quakelive.dk, and will have several goals. One of the more natural ones is to attract some attention to the game; we have tried to increase the activity by doing the usual stuff: Making a base for pickup matches of all sorts as well as friendly conversation. To complement this, we created a (cool) homepage, located now at live.quake3.dk which includes a player database for Danish players as well as a customly created ladder system for those wanting to compete against each other. Also, since everybody likes awards, you can get some of those on the site too!

Now, what kept quake3newb alive was the amount of duel tournaments hosted; hopefully, we can continue to host such tournaments and, in fact, the first (rather small) one will take place tomorrow evening (Sunday) at 19:00 CEST. In order to create a strong user base for a game with limited marketing (up till now, anyway, we of course realize that this is still a game in development), we have to appeal to newbies. As for now, we can probably all agree that the game is not exactly newbie friendly, and we will continue our ambition from quake3newb to try to help newbies get into the game as well as organize tournaments for skill impaired players.

So, feel free to have a look.

Posted by predr @ 14:33 CST, 19 November 2008 - iMsg
Update: Second group stage completed - Finals this Sunday at 18:00 CET.

The Danish IRC channel #quake3newb.dk has announced their first bigger VQ3 duel tournament, named Q3N WEBdanes Holmgang, which will be running over two Sundays: November 30th and December 7th 2008. The tournament will feature Danish players only and most of the skilled Danish duellers have already signed to show why the Nations Cup seedings were way off. Sign ups are handled by pred at #quake3newb.dk.

Matches begin at 07:00 CST, 30 November 2008 with GTV and possibly a live shoutcast available to the public.

Kickstarting a Danish Quake 3 community (13 comments)

This is probably only of interest to Danes, so you can skip this text and go directly to posting something lame, if you're not one of those.

As some of you might know, during the last month or so, we have been trying to gather Danish Quake 3 players of all skills in the channel #quake3newb.dk. As the name suggests, the main focus of the project is helping newbies get a great experience with the game (that is, avoiding the rape that is usually joining a random internet server). As such, we have been arranging weekly tournaments (3 until now, a new one coming this sunday) for both newbies and skilled players. In the weekdays the channel works as a pickup channel for everybody; we have a ladder to pair up players of equal skill, and we have a couple of dedicated servers. As of now, we are about 25-26 players in mean who use it and have a good time, so be sure to check it out and play this Sunday's Newbies cup (if you're a newbie anyway).

Q3 log analyzers? (7 comments)
Posted by predr @ 12:16 CDT, 7 July 2008 - iMsg
Does anybody know of any good log analyzers for Quake III logs? I'm trying to create statistics for an open server and would like such a thing. Vspstats seems to be somewhat outdated and is not working optimally with CPMA (actually it seems it's hardly working at all with the Linux server I'm trying to set up, although that might well be because I'm a retard.) So, what other opportunities do we have?

I just completed the Internet (52 comments)

Warning: Contains spoilers.
As the headline states, I just completed the Internet. It was a long read and took me through ups and downs, but looking back, I'd certainly say that it was worth it all. I'm sure I'm not the only one who raised my eyebrows a little when going through the ending though. I mean, sure it climaxed at times and contained some seriously fucked up shit, but still...
Excuse me for posting a 4chan image of offending nature: The ending of the Internet
