3D printing to create a mouse shell? (4 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 16:26 CST, 18 January 2015 - iMsg
Just wondered if anyone has tried to make their own mouse shell using a 3d printer.

I was considering buying an aurora to use for the insides. I can't really figure out how to make buttons for mine.

Any thoughts on how to form buttons?

Also can anyone recommend a good 3d printing company? Doesn't matter where as long as I can have stuff shipped to the uk.

Help building computer mouse (11 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 06:44 CST, 12 December 2013 - iMsg
So basically I made my own computer mouse mould out of balsa wood. I gutted an old wmo for the sensor and it is really good for me.

I'm having trouble making buttons for it. Does anyone know how I could get a plastic version of it made? I'm only wanting to do it as a one off. I doubt it has any commercial viability. I have really long fingers and doubt it will suit many people.

Should I speak to a university or school or something like that. Any help would be appreciated.

Rocket hum (28 comments)

Basically, there was a long thread recently about footsteps and +backing etc.

How about rather than adding footsteps, they add a noise for having the rocket launcher out.

They could also do it for all weapons. Or they could remove all weapon sounds of this kind.

Would this improve weapon balance? Make the games more interesting?

Quake lag (12 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 18:26 CDT, 25 March 2009 - iMsg
Hi all,

My quake has been laggy for the last couple of years... Yes years..

I have no idea why and have looked through all of this site and most of google for answers. The weird thing is that my ping tends to be pretty stable (acording to the game) but it doesn't register hits. I have been through a few isp's, both cable and adsl but none seem to change anything.

My setup on quake 3 was: rate 25000, maxpackets 125, displayrefresh 120, smoothclients 1.

I overclocked my mouse to 1000hz using the hidusbf tool.

I am not very technical with pc, in particular on the hardware side.

As such, I wondered if anybody has any suggestions on where I might be going wrong. Could it be router settings? Or could it be settings on my pc/ hardware problems? I have no idea. But I am almost ready to buy a new pc to try and fix it!

Please save me money and time failing at quake!

Regards

James

ps thanks again to people who contributed to my new mouse post. I am further along with my design and am closer towards having a working prototype! Exciting times!

New mouse (53 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 09:16 CST, 6 February 2009 - iMsg
Hi all,

I am currently designing a new computer mouse. I was hoping people could answer a few questions for me to aid in my endeavour.

Background:
The microsoft wmo appears to be the most popular mouse with quake players, based on information gathered from this site. (Please correct me if I am wrong!) I wondered what the particular reasons for this are. I suspect it is a combination of shape, simplicity and price but would be keen to hear from you.

What I would like to know is:

What mouse do you use?
How do you grip the mouse?
What factors are important to you when choosing your mouse?
Do you prefer a low or high dpi mouse? And why?
Do you prefer a laser or optical sensor? Why?
Do you prefer a mouse with or without custom driver software?
What price would you pay for the "right" mouse?
And for fun, what is the worst designed mouse in your opinion.

I understand this may seem tedious and if you feel this way, apologies for the post. However, your input would be greatly appreciated and will benefit my final design, which, I hope may in turn benefit you!

James

Net settings (3 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 08:19 CDT, 3 October 2008 - iMsg
I used to play a lot of threewave but recently I have found that I can't hit anything on it. I'm not sure what is wrong. When I play on cpm I don't seem to have any problems. Are there any settings config wise that I should change for threewave specifically. For example I have played with cg_pmfixes but never worked out if its best on 1 or 0. Also punkbuster seems to have changed a lot and I wondered if my settings for it could be messed up. Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks.

Help with yaw and pitch settings (14 comments)
Posted by n1ghtfly @ 10:35 CDT, 29 July 2008 - iMsg
Hi all,

I noticed many of the pro players opt for custom m_yaw and m_pitch settings.

Some appear to use higher vertical sensitivity than horizontal (Jibo, cha0ticz) and some the opposite, lower vertical than horizontal sensitivity (toxic).

I wondered if anyone had worked out why this is, whether it is to do with how they grip the mouse or simply due to their individual preference. Equally, is there any reason that they pick a particular ratio or are they simply superstitious?

Also, I have been looking at rodcad.be and they have some non-mainstream gaming mice. I wondered if anyone had a non-razer/logitech/microsoft mouse and whether they would recommend any. I thought the zykon and cyber snipa ones looked quite cool. I have an IE3 but am always happy to waste some money if it is going to improve my stats!

Any suggestions are welcome, and feel free to take the piss as this is my first post!
