Prague TDM LAN #2 CANCELED (52 comments)
Posted by wision @ 02:15 CDT, 6 August 2014 - iMsg
As mentioned in previous post I've been waiting until the end of previous week for any kind of information about the new venue for our LAN. Sadly, the owner didn't answer his phone for past two days nor call me, so I'm sad to announce that the Prague TDM LAN #2 is canceled. I wasn't able to find any other suitable place for the lan therefore I'm not able to host it anywhere near at proposed date.

There were couple of people proposing to host a LAN elsewhere (groparoo in Bucharest and/or InFerNo_ in Belgium). I believe the community is free to reach to them and discuss possibilities.

In upcoming week/two I will be returning the donations, so if you don't receive it by then, please contact me. I'm sorry for all the troubles this situation has caused.

EDIT: All the paypal donations have been returned. The only one remaining is Lam's which was done by bank transfer (will talk to him directly about it).

Prague TDM LAN #2 UPDATE #2 (47 comments)
Posted by wision @ 11:06 CDT, 29 July 2014 - iMsg
Scheduled: 03:00 CDT, 19 September 2014 to 13:00 CDT, 21 September 2014
Schedule: Passed

As you have probably noticed a problem with gaming cafe have arised. The owner had to close down the cafe, meaning that currently we do not have any place to host Prague TDM LAN #2. I've been looking for alternatives, but either those places are closed as well, or the place looks really bad and have small number of computers, which does not meet the criteria for the lan. The District owner said that they already have a new place in Prague, but it needs reconstruction and they will let me know by the end of this week if they will manage to set up the place before our lan.

Here are the options left for us:

1) Cancel the lan and those who already booked flights and hotels I can meet up in Prague and have non-gaming weekend.
2) Wait until the end of the week and see if they will manage to finish the place before the lan.
a) If they do manage to prepare the venue, the lan can take place in the new venue.
b) If they won't manage to prepare the venue, we can go to option #1 or postpone the lan until the venue is opened (but let's discuss that later).

For now I decided to wait until the end of the week, as it seems as the best option for us and letting you guys know right after. Either way, if anyone from the donators wants to have his donation returned, please let me know (in case the lan is canceled, all of them will be returned of course).

I'm sorry that I don't have better news for you and it really saddens me that this kind of problem showed up.

Prague TDM LAN #2 UPDATE (147 comments)

Scheduled: 03:00 CDT, 19 September 2014 to 13:00 CDT, 21 September 2014
Schedule: Passed

Welcome to the first update on Prague TDM LAN #2. Z Live is keen to run the stream again this year, but we are looking for people who would be able to volunteer themselves as casters and people who can run the stream along with United Kingdom zoot.

With about 5 weeks before the signup deadline, there is really low number of teams signed up. This way, I would like to ask people, who know that they will attend, to let me know and register their team.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet. If you can't find a team, but you would still like to attend, there's a list of players without a team. Contact me if you want to be added.

Scheduled: 03:00 CDT, 19 September 2014 to 13:00 CDT, 21 September 2014
Schedule: Passed

As some of you already noticed on #lan-prague the date for Prague TDM LAN #2 have been picked. The LAN will take place in District gaming cafe on 19-21.9.2014.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet. There's also a document with list of players who would like to attend, but don't have a team. Contact me if you want to be added or removed.

As the name of the event says, it is going to be primarily TDM lan, but if somebody comes up with a reasonable plan/offer for a duel tournament, I believe we can spare couple of computers for that. Sadly, there is not enough time for any other mode.

For those who missed the lan last year, feel free to check out some photos & reports from attendees. Let's turn this into another epic event!

After exhausting 3 days we finally know the winners of Quake Live TDM Czech Republic Prague Challenge. For those who didn't attend I can only advice to come next time and don't miss the epic fun.

I would like to thank everyone who helped with any bit of organization and also to everyone who attended. If it wasn't for you guys, the event would be really sad and boring if it was only me alone in the cafe for 3 days, so don't thank me and go thank yourselves! From the community, to the community.

Schedule: Passed

I am sure you have been all waiting for this, so please let me show you the groups and the schedule for Quake Live TDM Prague Challenge. I am also pleased to announce that ZOWIE is the official sponsor of the tournament.

Compared to the last news, I finally received the medals/trophy and for those who missed it, here's the link.

People who are bringing monitors need to bring them by 04:00 CDT, 20 September 2013 at the latest. Also who was at Adroits lan and remember problems with cables, I would like to let them know, that all the DVI cables at cafe place are capable of handling 120Hz monitors, so there shouldn't be any issues with them.

All other info can be found in previous posts. See you on Friday!

Prague TDM LAN UPDATE #4 (218 comments)
Posted by wision @ 09:30 CDT, 8 September 2013 - iMsg
With two days left until signup deadline (10.9.2013) and two weeks until the lan (20-22.9.2013) here is the one of the last updates about the lan.

I'm pleased to announce that United Kingdom zoot and Portugal insan3 will take care of the onsite coverage. I'm also sure that they will take advantage of the cafe studio and provide great stream for all of you who are not able to attend.

For those coming by train/bus/aeroplane I have great news. Czech Republic shebin (oldschool Czech quaker) offers to do free taxi service from the train/bus station/airport to your hotel or the cafe place on thursday evening and friday morning. As far as I know, he can take 4 people and their luggage and also promised to have some Czech beer for the travellers as a welcome present. If you are interested, please query him on IRC (sh @ #lan-prague) as he is going to create a schedule of arrivals and handle it all by himself.

As for 120Hz monitors I can't say I have good news about those. So far I was only able to get confirmation about 15 monitors. I'm still trying to get at least one more, so let's hope I'll have better news later on. Here's the list of people who will bring their monitor(s). Considering that some people might arrive later or leave sooner, getting at least 3 more monitors would be better option. There are 3 monitors available in Netherlands, but I wasn't able to find anyone who could bring them. If you know somebody, please let me know.

Unfortunatelly I didn't receive trophy/medals yet, so I'm not able to show you those.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet.

Prague TDM LAN UPDATE #3 (127 comments)
Posted by wision @ 06:32 CDT, 23 August 2013 - iMsg
With the LAN quickly approaching I have another portion of update for you. Most important is that due to having enough money for the rent we can move the signup pay deadline to a later date which is 10th of September. If you want to play, then form a team beforehand and don't wait until the deadline.

Another update is about the maplist. Since last update I was gathering opinions about the maplist and map picking system and gave all signed teams possibility to vote for a change. Results can be found here. Accordingly we decided to switch the map picking system to drop / drop first and stick with the selected maplist.

During this week we also got QL LAN servers from id software, so let's hope my HDD won't crash until the LAN. id also promised QL awards for attendees, so if nothing else, you can sign up just to get an award. I am still working on actual medals / trophy for winners, more info coming in next update.

Some people asked me if it's necessary to bring their own mouse / keyboard / headset. It's not really needed, since it's a gaming place and they have all of this. But if you want to use your own stuff, every computer has USB / audio hub, so feel free to bring it.

There is also number of players who are looking for a team. If you really want to go, please form a team together and sign up before the deadline! Coming to LAN and forming a team onsite is really bad idea, since it would just screw up the schedule and annoy people.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet.

Prague TDM LAN UPDATE #2 (320 comments)
Posted by wision @ 05:00 CDT, 8 August 2013 - iMsg
There's less than two weeks until signups deadline and so I would like to ask signed up teams to start paying the fee. Also I've noticed that there are many players who don't have a team, who I encourage to form a team by themselves and attend.

Many players asked me if they are allowed to come and just spectate the games and talk to other players and what would be the entry fee for them. All non-players will be allowed to enter the cafe without any fee, but I would still be happy if they donated some money to our paypal account (prague.lan@gmail.com) to cover the prizes and the rent.

Some people asked if we are getting QL LAN servers. The answer is yes, we are working on those, so let's hope that everything goes smooth and you all will be able to enjoy LAN ping.

Info about accomodation and transport is mentioned in the previous post.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet.

Europe mini (Russia enjoy, Spain centinela, Germany tina, Denmark bonfire, Australia liefje)

When we reach signups deadline and we will receive the payment only from a small number of teams, I will have to reconsider the situation, so please count on a possibility that the LAN might be cancelled one month prior the date.

If there is anyone interested in any kind of help or sponsoring, please let me know. If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments or #lan-prague @ Quakenet.

EDIT: List of players without a team. Contact me if you want to be added.

Prague Lan Info (81 comments)
Posted by wision @ 10:29 CDT, 5 May 2013 - iMsg
We've been to District gaming cafe yesterday, to check the place itself, if it's suitable for the lan and the place would be flawless besides one thing.. there are 60Hz "gaming" monitors (they actually feel like 75Hz.. but it's still not enough for many players). Current goal is to try to get 40 120Hz monitors from local stores and players themselves. I said 40 because cafe computer layout only allows 10 teams to play at once, due to having 5 computers next to each other (and as we all know, teams want to sit next to each other).

Currently we only know that we want to host a TDM tournament.. we probably won't be able to get enough prizes for the duel tournament for it to be enough interesting (that might change tho!), and as for the TDM tournament, we think of it more as a social event than a tournament where you can win shitload of money, so we hope that small prizes won't discourage you from participating. We want to make sure that everyone gets to play enough games to warmup themselves and at least 4-5 official games.

Since we don't know how many teams will actually participate, we can only give you couple of proposals about the tournament format and prizes.. so here we go:

8-10 teams:
2 groups, 4 teams advance to DE playoffs, everyone will have his own computer during all three days, HW only prizes, and since we will have a lot of free time, we could do fun tournaments as well.. (in ctf/ffa/duel/poker/racing simulator)

11-16 teams:
2 groups, 4 teams advance to DE playoffs, friday - group A, saturday - group B, sunday - playoffs.. around 700-1700 euro for prizes + HW

17-20 teams:
4 groups (maybe 2 divisions), everyone advances to SE playoffs, friday - group A/B, saturday group C/D, sunday - playoffs.. around 2000-2500 euro for prizes + HW

21-24 teams:
4 groups (maybe 2 divisions), everyone advances to SE playoffs, friday - group A/B, saturday group C/D, sunday - playoffs.. around 2500-3300 euro for prizes + HW

My honest guess is that we can get around 12-16 teams. Money will be probably distributed like: 1st place 50%, 2nd place 30%, 3rd place 20%.

All this is just a proposal right now, and it all depends on how many 120Hz monitors we will be able to gather. The worst case we are going to accept is 16 120Hz monitors (players will have to switch to 60Hz monitors after they finish their tournament matches), but in that case, we'll have to change the tournament format as well, so that all official games would be played on 120Hz monitors. If we won't be able to get at least 16 monitors, there probably won't be any lan at all.

A little bit more about the provided computers and cafe itself:

50 computers:
Screen: EIZO FORIS FS2333
GFX: Gigabyte nVidia GTX660 Ti 2GB
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570k
RAM: Kingston 8GB (2x4GB), 1600 MHz HyperX
HDD: WD 500 GB Caviar black
SSD: Kingston 120 GB, HyperX
KB: mechanical Razer BlackWidow Tournament
HEAD: some razer with microphone
MOUSE: some razer :)

Of course you can bring your own mouse/kb/headphones.. every computer has usb/audio hub under the screen for easier (un)plugging of your stuff.

Cafe website: http://district-prague.eu/en/
Debtorr's video invitation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEYkq4pZikY

Cafe also features a bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and area with sofas and TVs, where we'd like you to watch the games as spectators. On the 2nd floor of the shopping center, there is a regular restaurant and couple of fastfood restaurants.

For casters, there's a dedicated room with streaming HW and place to do interviews.

Like I already said, all this is just a proposal (this is not official announcement!).. we need to get as many 120Hz monitors as we can, in order to be able to organize the lan. So here's my task for you guys.. If you are sure to come and play the tournament as I proposed above, please let me know if you are able to bring any 120Hz monitors. We really need to know the numbers.. and whoever brings 120Hz monitor will get a beer from me :).

So if the lan happens, it's gonna be on 20-22.09.2013 in Prague / Czech Republic (http://district-prague.eu/).

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments. Also feel free to join #WCQL-Prague @ Quakenet.

It has been almost two weeks since successful draft tournament #2, with more than 100 players attending (qlstats.info). This made us think about another tournament already, which will be happening on Sunday 17th of February. But there are matters which need to be discussed and we would like to know your opinion about them.

We can all agree that having BO1 in the first round is unfair towards some teams, so we would like to push the signups time from previous 10:00 CST to 09:00 CST, and start the tournament one hour earlier (10:00 CST) and make sure that all the games are played as BO3. Feel free to comment about the earlier start.

Another thing to discuss is the maplist. We were pretty happy with the previous maplist (Dreadful Place, Hidden Fortress, Limbus, Purgatory, Terminatria), but unfortunatelly the last map on the list hasn't been played a single time. That's why we would like you to vote in the comments on the 5th map in the maplist. Your vote can either go to Grim Dungeons, Intervention or Terminatria.

For those who don't know what a draft tournament is, you can find an explanation in our previous newspost about #tdmpickup draft 2. See you @ #tdmpickup and !add.

As we already promised, we are announcing #tdmpickup draft tournament series. This kind of tournament is open to all the players, where you just signup before the tournament start and the teams are created automatically based on players' QLStats rating, so the teams should be equal.

First tournament of the series will take place on Sunday 25th of November. Signups will be open from 10:00 CST to 11:00 CST and done via IRC. After the signups, we will announce the teams and playoff tree. The tournament format will be Single Elimination bracket played as BO3. We will also provide Mumble and Teamspeak servers for everyone to use. The only requirement for everyone to add is that you have to have at least 10 matches played on #tdmpickup according QLStats website. If you didn't play 10 matches yet, you still have about 10 days to rank yourself. Just join #tdmpickup, !a and wait for your game to start.

But wait, there's more! During the last 7 days before the tournament, everyone playing at #tdmpickup will be competing for another prize. The person dominating in number of played games during past 7 days will receive 3-month pro membership redeemable token for QuakeLive! You can check current stats in here (please bear in mind that QLStats website is a bit slow). We will check the results exactly on 11:00 CST and we'll count out quits and forfeits.

The event will be streamed by the best TDM streaming organization ever, which of course is lvl^. Have fun!

It has been almost two years since this QuakeLive TDM pickup channel was founded by Netherlands Draven and almost a year since we started indexing games with QLStats. To celebrate all that and also upcoming 10 000th #tdmpickup game on QLStats, we would like to announce few changes & improvements to our beloved TDMBot.

Most of these features were done by Poland Lam, so feel free to plus him wherever you see his comments. If you have any other ideas for our bot, please comment below. We hope you will enjoy many more years with #tdmpickup.

The Dutch during semifinal game against Team Czech. Seems like gooda's teammates are afraid of him.. hence the space between him and the rest of the team.

Debtorr's grandma made a gugelhupf for the duel tournament winner.. but I don't think cypher received it. More likely, debtorr ate it alone in his hotel room.

Kuh3liga Summer 2012 (2 comments)
Posted by wision @ 15:16 CDT, 9 June 2012 - iMsg
For all those Quake hungry players around, I would like to remind that there are ongoing sign-ups for Kuh3liga Summer 2012. This season will feature TDM, CTF and CA. But unless enough teams will register themselves, the league in particular gametype will be canceled. We're closing sign-ups on Friday 15th of June. Required number of teams for TDM is 16 and for both CTF and CA, it's 10.

#tdmpickup draft tournament series (56 comments)
Posted by wision @ 03:04 CDT, 24 April 2012 - iMsg
Hello there!

At #tdmpickup we would like to host tdm draft tournament series and we are looking for your opinion. The idea is simple: To create an automated tournament series where people of various skill get to play together.

Here are the details:

- one day draft tournament repeating every three weeks (depends on how popular it would be)
- suggested day/time is Sunday 18:00 CET
- tournament is completely automatic
- players register via our irc bot with their quakelive nickname, half an hour prior to the tournament
- the bot will create teams accordingly to number of registered players and their rating on #tdmpickup @ qlstats
- bot will decide the tournament layout according to the number of teams (playoffs/groups?)
- now it's up to players to host servers and start playing (some simple rules will be specified)
- we will try to provide some teamspeak/mumble server with number of channels, so people can use voicecomms during the game
- bot will auto-detect the results and fill up the playoff tree accordingly
- it's up to the players to finish the tournament.. in the end, no admin/supervisor should be needed
- teams/playoffs tree/results will be posted on a website by the bot
- requirement: players should play at least 5 matches on #tdmpickup, so the bot can distribute them by their (hopefully fair) rating

The question is now that if you would be interested in playing such tournament. Feel free to express yourself in the poll.

Legie leaves Quake scene (78 comments)
Posted by wision @ 11:19 CDT, 7 June 2011 - iMsg
Dear quakers, we have the unpleasant duty to inform you about the retirement of one of the European Quake scene personalities, Czech Republic Ondrej "Legie" Konecny.

He began his career as a Quake 3 dueler, gathering a lot of experience that got applied in the local LAN parties in duel and TDM as well. He was a member of clan Czech Republic Nemesis and played ClanBase leagues every year, and also of the Russian CTF clan Russia magic, where he collected flags for couple of years. In 2009 he appeared at the ESWC Masters of Paris, where he played with top 16 players in the world. The invitation was given to him for his activity around the Czech quake scene. In Quakelive he played for clan Czech Republic HTF and managed to win the OpenCup CTF Spring 2010 Div2.

In the past on his own project QuakeQuickCup, he organized and hosted a lot of Quake 3 Nations cups which had extraordinary ratings and helped to revive the Quake 3 TDM scene. The main success of the tournament was great participation from the Euro teams, the GTVs and quick match reports with demos and screenshots. He also organized numerous Q3 duel tournaments, and now he is the head admin of the weekly ZOTAC tournament which you might know for its stable periodicity. Last Sunday we saw the 86th edition.

He said his decision was not easy, but he is currently quite busy with playing the trumpet professionally. His Jazz quintet and ska band fills up all his time and that's the reason why he is forced to cease all his Quake activities. He also added, that he is finishing University and starting September he is going to study Higher Secondary School with a focus on jazz.

Let's wish him all the best and that he has as much fun playing his trumpet, like he had with quake.
