Gamebattles launches QL Endurance Ladder (78 comments)
Posted by TTU VAPOR @ 16:17 CDT, 9 April 2011 - iMsg
Hello everyone! I'm a long time member of the MLG forum community. I do not work for MLG or for Gamebattles. I wanted to let everyone know Gamebattles has just launched their Quake Live Duelers April Endurance Ladder.

What is this? This ladder is an edurance ladder that will run for the month of April. At the end of April, the top x teams based on activity will be seeded into a playoff bracket to determine a champion. The top teams will be seeded by XP, the more matches, the more wins, the more XP.

I know a lot of people in the Quake Live community would love to see QL at future MLG events and this is just the stepping stone to seeing that happen.

Update: See details.

MLG's Gamebattles.com QL dueling ladder! (32 comments)
Posted by TTU VAPOR @ 11:29 CDT, 8 April 2011 - iMsg
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you all know that http://www.gamebattles.com is going to be starting a dueling ladder real soon, probably within a week! The registration for the ladder will be completely free, and once you register, you will be able to start competing against other Quake Live players for the ladder!

This is also a stepping stone for Major League Gaming to see how involved Quake players will be in the ladder, and if successful, Quake Live will have a better chance at becoming an official MLG Pro Circuit game played at live events!

If you're wanting to compete in duels for Quake Live and want to see how you stack up against others, Gamebattles.com is the place to go!

Show your support for competitive Quake Live!! Help spread the word, and I will definitely post here once the ladder goes live!

I know Pros visit this site such as vo0, and it would be great if the Pro community would register for this ladder, and by doing so it will show MLG that the community supports this game and wants to see it at live events!

Cheers!

Major League Gaming and Gamebattles QL (26 comments)
Posted by TTU VAPOR @ 10:50 CST, 7 February 2011 - iMsg
Greetings everyone! I'm a member at the Major League Gaming forums, and myself and other MLGers are avid Quake Live players. We are very much into the competitive Quake Live scene, and are wanting to make a push for MLG and Gamebattles (MLG's ladder website) to create free ladders for Quake Live and tournaments for the future.

We would like to find out what interest anyone here at the Quake Live forums would have in MLG/Gamebattles' free online ladders for QL.

Major League Gaming is about to start their 2011 Pro Circuit season, and their co-founder has spoken out about Quake Live as a possibility for an event during the 2011 season. Again, it's only a possibility, and a large active population would need to be able to show their support for such a thing.

I would like to invite anyone who enjoys the competitive side of Quake to come over to our thread we have and participate in discussing Quake Live tournaments, pros, etc. If you're looking for more QL friends, there are plenty of us to add. We're also going to start some community-based tournaments soon if we get enough participants.

Also, show your interest here about Gamebattles ladders for Quake. Would you support them? Would you participate? Voice your opinion!

CPMA Ladder for MLG's Gamebattles (9 comments)
Posted by TTU VAPOR @ 14:38 CDT, 27 July 2008 - iMsg
http://gamebattles.com/forums/f/PC-General-Discussion-90

First off, I'd like to say, I have fallen in love with CPMA. Why I didn't play this game when it first came out...I don't know...I guess stupidity is to blame?

Secondly, I'm a US player, and I find it pretty rough to find any CPMA US-Based ladder leagues, sites, etc... I'm a long-time member of Major League Gaming and they have a site called Gamebattles.com which features ladders for various games, mostly console, but if the community is there for something, they usually start a ladder for "X" game.

I'm curious if anyone here that currently plays CPMA whether it be for fun or competition, would be interested in playing in a ladder?

If so, please post your thoughts via the link I provided. I do know a lot of GB/MLG Staff that I could talk to to help get this going.

Cheers

Are skill-based FPS games dead?? (20 comments)
Posted by TTU VAPOR @ 09:17 CDT, 21 July 2008 - iMsg
I ask this question because I run a blog called Gamer's Corner with my friend, http://gamerscnr.blogspot.com We have been doing shows on game design, competitive gaming, and gaming trends. If you happen to listen to any of our shows, keep in mind it's got a strong console influence to it, but we have PC gaming backgrounds so you will be hearing us complain a lot about the direction that console devs are taking games, but the same could also be said about PC too.

It seems that all of the classic PC devs like Epic Games, Id Software, Infinity Ward, and even Valve, are turning more towards console development rather than developing for the PC. Some say PC gaming is dead, but then you have John Carmack from Id saying, "no it's not dead, and here, let me introduce you to Quake Live, it's going to change PC gaming," yeah, I don't really buy into that just yet.

I'm new to these kinds of e-sports websites, and I probably barely know anything about the competitive world of e-sports on PC other than Vo0 and Fatality are kick ass at dueler games, specifically Quake and PK.

Does anyone think we're ever going to see classics like COD1, Counter-strike, Quake 3, etc...get created again? I'm not asking for a COD1.5, or even a re-furbished version of COD1, but there's proof in the fact that COD1 to COD4 was a matter of taking a skill-based game that provided some challenge and learning curve and then basically wiping that entirely out of the spectrum and creating a noobie COD4 with fabricated gameplay...*COUGH* perks.

I went over to console recently in the past 3 years because I couldn't afford my PC hardware upgrades anymore, but when I come to think of it, what PC games have come out recently that demand more hardware are actually good?? None.

What are your guys thoughts on the PC gaming scene from both a e-sports point of view, and just a general PC shooter's pov?

I'm really new to CPMA and Quake 3, and I was browsing through the CPMA servers for tournament mode and there's BARELY anyone playing.

Where are all the duelers at? What game are they playing? I would like to play a decent dueler that's populated...or is it a dead scene?
