Thoughts on the Razer Basilisk and similar mice? (21 comments)
Posted by /dev/null @ 15:27 CDT, 11 October 2017 - iMsg
Quake player since qtest here. I've gone through many different input devices, starting with the old Logitech Trackman Marble Wheel, then to the 1.1a, mx518, g400, and now my current g400s (2nd revision). I've *always* used the right mouse button for jump in FPS games. Once FPS games started having 'aim down sights' as a standard function, I started using the mouse browser forward (mouse5) button for the ADS/zoom function in newer games.

I'm interested in the Basilisk because it has the "clutch" which can be bound to basically do ADS/zoom like I am used to using mouse5 for currently, but have never had a desire to own anything made by Razer.

Just wanted to get some thoughts about this mouse here before taking the plunge and ordering it. I'll never use the default "sniper" function for it as I stick with one sensitivity 99% of the time, besides when I turn up the dpi on my mouse for quicker turning in vehicles that lower sensitivity in some games, like Battlefield.

The placement of this "clutch" seems much more accessible than the mouse5 button I've been using for years, so that's whats drawing me towards buying this one. I know there are other mice that have a similar sniper button, but I don't know of any currently that are any better than the Basilisk. Any thoughts on these other mice that have a similar button and if/why they would be a better purchase than the Basilisk?

Seems the Basilisk has the same sensor in the deathadder elite, if that helps. I like the adjustable resistance mousewheel too, as I use that for item pickup/use in some games to avoid spamming a keyboard key.

Thanks to anyone who took their time to read this and respond. <3

Best 120HZ Flat Panel Monitor <=$400 (87 comments)
Posted by /dev/null @ 19:44 CDT, 4 July 2012 - iMsg
So what is it? Halfway through 2012 what is the best 120HZ display for a gamer looking for lowest possible response time in that price range as well?

I'm hoping for something in the ~24-27 inch size, though I understand 120HZ and 27inch combined is a pretty costly combination.. I guess even if it's a little over the $400 range and 27inch that's worth including too.

I see alot of different offerings with 3d vision included and crap and I dont need any of that. All I want is true 120 HZ, quick response, and reliability. (good color reproduction would be a plus too, sRGB etc.) I am upgrading from a 60HZ ASUS monitor I paid like $140 for a couple years back (VH222H)

Logitech Gaming Software w/G400? (No comments)
Posted by /dev/null @ 17:04 CDT, 12 April 2012 - iMsg
What I would like to know, is if Logitech's software can confidently be installed now?

I remember hearing of issues with input through the mouse when using their software, so I have avoided doing so the entire time I've had the G400. I usually would steer clear of Logitech's software with all the issues that people have reported it causing in various devices in the past, but I read that it allows for the top 3 buttons on my mouse to be bound to other functions, which would be *very* useful in a couple games I play.

Also, I would like to simply make one of the CPI buttons on top toggle between two settings, instead of using two separate buttons to go up/down through 4 different settings, is this possible in their software?

Thanks!

FOV problem with 16x9 widescreen setting (9 comments)
Posted by /dev/null @ 20:29 CST, 24 February 2009 - iMsg
I just purchased my 1st widescreen monitor, set up quake3 to run in a custom resolution (1920x1080) and noticed that the fov was out of whack. I always used a fov of 110 with a resolution of 1024x768 (4x3 aspect ratio), and realized that by going to 16x9 this was bound to happen, so with a little math I calculated that I should set my new fov to 124.6 to be about equivalent to how I always had my FOV set. I set the fov to 124.6 and thought it was a little off still, so tried setting it a bit higher only to realize it wasnt changing a damn thing. Turns out that any FOV setting over 120 only makes my gun disappear more, the actual field of view stays the same as if it was still on 120.

I was wondering if any of the Q3A community here would be able to help me get past this barrier, as the FOV I need to establish in order to have a smooth transition from 4x3 to 16x9 is unattainable right now. It's been very frustrating, I've looked for potential console commands that might be limiting the maximum FOV to no avail. I've played with the same FOV the entire time I've played quake 3 arena (almost a decade). I love how good it looks in this resolution and aspect ratio, but its hard to relearn a new FOV, even if it is only a little bit off from my target. I didn't think there was a maximum FOV imposed in Q3A, and if so definitely not 120.

Any ideas? Like I said, increasing the FOV over 120 only has one effect, and that is making the equipped weapon drop further out of view until it is invisible.
