faceit, there's too much (157 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 16:58 CST, 21 January 2013 - iMsg
maybe it's just me, but it seems like excitement surrounding FaceIt is dying down. I don't like bringing this up but I feel I'm not the only one who's noticed. stream numbers have gone down and front-page posts don't get nearly as many comments or +'s as in the past. I attribute this personally to the daily cups. It's like FaceIt has saturated its own market. I of course appreciate the work that's constantly being done, but let's remember quality of quantity fellas, and really think about whether these daily cups are beneficial.

I'd rather be wrong about the above opinions than right, so by all means have some debate

quake-related irc channels to idle/join? (7 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 00:44 CST, 20 January 2013 - iMsg
I had a bunch in my favourites but lost them all when re-installing mirc to get rid of that annoying "Please Register" message. I can't remember all the ones I had saved, so I'd appreciate some suggestions for quake-related irc channels (don't have to be only Quake Live, they can be for QuakeWorld or whatever)

demo hunting (15 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 13:39 CST, 17 December 2012 - iMsg
Hello. I'm looking for demos from past Quake Live tournaments. If anyone has them on their computer I would greatly appreciate them being uploaded and linked in this thread. Many of the tournaments I'll list have had download links in the past, but they are now dead/404'd.

The demos for tournaments I'm looking for are:

• Quakecon2008 (I have nothing except the grand final)
• Quakecon2009 (missing the grand final and rounds 4,5,6 from the lower bracket)
• Adroits LAN (missing all playoff demos and the demos for Groups B and C)
• IEM4 Asian Finals (missing all demos)

any help is appreciated

imagine how much... (38 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 01:07 CDT, 22 October 2012 - iMsg
...it would suck to want to play Quake, but you lived in an area of the world like South Africa or S. Korea that only have ONE server location and such a small amount of players that finding an opponent would take forever.

I find that thinking about this would make people more grateful for their situation and appreciative of id, even if they haven't done well with QL, and makes things like complaining about ping seem very petty and entitled.

there's not much point to this thread other than to maybe try to get people to look on the bright side of things and enjoy quake while it lasts, since for some people it's pretty much already over.

Does anyone have a link to the playoffs for the QuakeCon's from 2008-10? It doesn't have to be the open tournament, but the pro tournament is more of what I'm looking for. It would be greatly appreciated. thanks

if you thought this thread would contain a download for an in-game server browser, you're wrong! I just wanted to request that someone make it. and, if you DID think this title would contain it, apparently you want it to be made too!

so, Memento_Mori or whoever else actually does stuff around here, get working plz

random game idea I had (14 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 13:02 CDT, 26 July 2012 - iMsg
I just had an idea I thought was pretty cool. basically, take the gameplay of Quake but add in 'status effects' and 'types' from Pokemon.

example: have a water gun that's effective against fire armor than can be picked up. the water gun however wouldn't be effective against 'grass' armour. it would still do damage but not as much as if you used a weapon which was effective against that particular armor.

also, have guns that could give status effects like 'poison' or 'burn' which for a small period after receiving it will bring the player's health down slowly.

COOL OR WHAT??!?!

some post-update suggestions yo (11 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 00:19 CDT, 26 July 2012 - iMsg
peep these suggestions, homie. oh, and don't be scurred to holla your own suggestions too.

- Make it so that if no one votes for any of the maps post-game, it automatically loads the map last played on
note: I'd rather this new voting system in non-prem servers fuck off all together, but if that won't happen at least do this

- Fix the glitch where after a match finishes and a new map is voted, the player who lost last game is not replaced in que

This isn't really a suggestions but what's going to happen to online tournaments? or LAN? trying to run a tourny on non-prem servers will be fucking impossible since you can't vote the next map

CSN Qcon12 BYOC Live Stream Kickstarter (21 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 18:24 CDT, 18 July 2012 - iMsg
Since apparently there's no news post for it and no forum thread, I thought I'd post about CSN's kickstarter in which their goal is to stream the Qcon 2012 BYOC.

the goal isn't too high but if I may say, could have been easily met if done earlier and had more exposure.

reddit thread about it: http://www.reddit.com/r/QuakeLive/comments/ws...xperience/

CSN link about it w/ kickstarter page link: http://cyber-sports.net/kickstarter

if an official news post or thread gets started after the creation of this thread, feel free to delete this.

Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 11:02 CDT, 20 May 2012 - iMsg
hello, just thought I'd tell anyone who cares I won't be attending DreamHack. it's simply too expensive and I have a job to keep and University to save for. I was baffled and honored by the choice to pick me, but it was not meant to be. Believe me when I say that I was just as confused by their choice to pick as anyone else was. Also, in my email wherein I notified blaze I would not be attending, I recommended some other Canadian players I feel deserve the spot, so maybe Canada can still show it's stuff :]

so, gl to everyone at DreamHack, I'll be watching from home with everyone else :)

attempting to find old tourny demos (43 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 20:44 CDT, 30 April 2012 - iMsg
Hi there. I like to collect tournament demos for quake live, and plan one day to release the collection. Thus, I'm hoping to be as extensive and precise as possible with my demos, which unfortunately is difficult when dealing with tournaments that happened a few years ago.

Currently, I have no demos for:

• IEM4 Global Challenge Dubai
• IEM4 American Championship Finals
• Quakecon 2010 (only missing a few of these)
• Quakecon 2009 (there are literally like 2 demos available for this, thought I'd just toss it on the list anyway)

=================================================

For the IEM4 tournaments, the demos were at one point in time available, but where they were uploaded on the ESL website, the files are no longer available.

American Championship example: http://www.esl-world.net/masters/season4/edmo...h/16373414
Dubai example: http://www.esl-world.net/masters/season4/duba.../15736207/

When trying to download the demos, it simply says 'file not found', and this is the case for ALL matches, even the semi/grand finals.

For QuakeCon 2010, the missing demos are:

*cypher's POV of the upper bracket semi-finals vs spart1e
*cypher's POV of the upper bracket finals vs stermy
*cypher's POV of the grand finals vs coolleR
*coolleR's POV of the grand finals vs cypher
*spart1e's POV of the upper bracket semi-finals vs cypher
*spart1e's POV of the lower bracket quarter-finals vs dahang
*spart1e's POV of the lower bracket semi-finals vs coolleR

=================================================

So, if anyone could link me to some demos that are available, or is generous enough to upload some themselves, it would be greatly appreciated.

looking for the right mouse for me (13 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 19:56 CDT, 29 April 2012 - iMsg
Hi there, I'd appreciate some suggestions for a mouse that would suit me. I'll tell you about what I'm using/what I'm looking for

• Current mouse: Deathadder 3.5g
• Preferred body-type of mouse: one that is not completely ambidextrous
• How I hold my mouse: claw style
• Current dpi setting: 900
• Number of buttons preferred: five or six (side buttons must be on left side)
• My lift-off habits: I generally tend to lift off my mousepad a fair bit, but I'm not too sure how high off. I don't stay on my pad but I also don't rise it completely off I think

the DA has served me well, but I'd like to try something new. and meaningless as it may seem, the side-buttons are actually too loud. they make an annoying huge click noise whenever pressed, which is something that the mouse I'm looking for must not have.

So, in summary, I'd like a mouse that is:

Good for claw grip users, has 5-6 buttons, has good lift-off distance, can go higher or lower than 900dpi, is not extremely loud, and is not completely ambidextrous. of course, other things like 'not being cheap/breaking easily' and 'doesn't have any skipping/tracking issues' go without saying.

Timing to the second: A Method (113 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 18:39 CDT, 12 April 2012 - iMsg
Hi there. One night about 2 months ago, I randomly wrote out this chart that I feel is pretty useful for learning how to time items to the second. Until now I didn't bother making a version that people could see online, but I was bored and now here I am.

I won't go into detail about what it is exactly, since I explain in the word document what the chart is, how to use it, and why it's useful.

So if you're looking to learn how to time to the second, I strongly recommend downloading the word file and checking it out. But please, before judging this method, read the "What to do with this chart" section on the second page.

Below is a screenshot of the chart (so you know I didn't just fill a word document with DICKSDICKSDICKS repeating), and a download link.

good recent demo download site (6 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 02:48 CDT, 13 March 2012 - iMsg
hey guys, I found out about this nifty demo site for quake live that I thought deserved some more exposure: http://www.qldemos.com/

you can upload your own demos if you want or download any that are uploaded by other people, and the search functions are nice too. it's in alpha mode right now so I'm not sure what the creator has in store for it's future, but yeah that's about it. also, if you like watching quake matches on youtube, the one's uploaded by the site creator are also put on this channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/quakelivedemos

I'm not affiliated with this guy or his work, but I appreciate it and just felt like sharing so more people might get to use it.

Looking for all tournaments demos (7 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 01:04 CST, 22 February 2012 - iMsg
Hi there, I'm looking for tournament demos back to about 2009. I intend to organize everything meticulously, then either:

1) create a zip files of every demo for people to download, so they have tournament demos up to 2009 with the ease of one download

2) create that zip AND a youtube channel in which I upload most of this footage (I would most likely exclude less important lower-bracket stuff from tournaments and instead stick to quarter finals, semi finals, finals).

I'm looking for any tournaments with the pros we've come to recognize, so no amateur tournaments. Bigger tournaments are more important (DH, Qcon, IEM etc), but other tournaments are welcome too (CSN, Jee sports, ZOTAC etc), as long as it has pros in it. If you can't provide demos or are too lazy (understandable), I'd still very much appreciate which tournaments would be worth downloading and sorting. If also possible, a link to the finished bracket for that tournament would be great as well.

Thus far I have DH winter 2011 duels, Qcon 2011 duels and TDM, both sorted to perfection. Now, I already have links for Dreamhack 2011 summer and qcon 2010 demos.

so, that's about it. please provide demo (NOT vod links, demos) links, download-worthy tournament suggestions, brackets for tournaments, or subtle flattery about my attire if at all possible. I personally will appreciate the help, and so will anyone who this ends up affecting in return

QL Nation Frag-Video Competition (15 comments)
Posted by Oaki_Duke @ 20:40 CST, 7 December 2011 - iMsg
sup. dunno if this is the right section, first post ever. anywho, I had an idea. I think it would be cool if each nation made a ql video, then submitted them and compete to see which nation could make the best frag video. I guess to make it more interesting each nation could only use frags from their own country.

also, I guess it'd be hard to decide on only one person to make the video, so as many people from each country could submit a video if they wanted.

well, let me hear your thoughts. is this idea genius or am I functionally retarded

ps. icon is the Wii because it's funnier that way
