what plastic is the wmo shell made of? (5 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 23:02 CDT, 27 September 2014 - iMsg
I finally switched from my Deathadder to my WMO recently, wanting to try three new things at once: my new mousepad, my old-ish WMO that someone from ESR gave me for free (totally awesome!), and low sensitivity. For the past few years, I've been using super high sens (6cm/360 in Q3), which means wrist-only movement, and it's pretty unhealthy. Not only that, but I've gotten really angry at just how bad my aim/accuracy is. I was hoping to get at least a bit better by lowering my sens and all that.

Anyway, I figured it would be cool to draw something on the shell; some little piece of line art or w/e. What I would like to know is what plastic the WMO's top shell is made of, and if this is even possible to do without ruining the mouse. Is there such a dye that will not rub off with sweat and consistent use?

P.S. I'm a terrible artist a friend of mine will be doing the actual art. A very good artist friend. One who knows how to hold a pen.

A quiet mouse (I lift mine up a lot) (12 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 17:58 CDT, 25 May 2014 - iMsg
I'm using a Razer Deathadder Black. A friend of mine bought it for me shortly after my Tt Esports Black mouse died (broke, not died). I also got a free WMO, but for high sens players such as myself, it's not optimal. I also need side buttons.

Basically, my problem is: when I lift my mouse up and put it back down, it makes a loud, obnoxious sound, as if all the components aren't held down and so they shake. My Thermaltake mouse didn't have this problem, and it's the biggest issue with this mouse, after the terrible scroll wheel and the 4-5 (!!) CDs of LOD, which was solved by taping up the sensor.

Maybe a TKL keyboard would give me the space I need to move without having to lift the mouse as much, but I don't want to buy a third keyboard, especially since this one is semi-rare and really damn good.

So, if someone knows either a way to fix this noise (short of just not lifting my mouse or equally bad idea), or knows another good mouse that isn't as loud, I would be very appreciative. Also one with a better scroll wheel (has real steps, doesn't randomly decide to scroll an extra 2 steps or just not scroll as far as I tell it to).

white motherboard (white accents) (13 comments)

I want a Z87 motherboard with white accents, and a black PCB. I want at least 2 PCIe 16x slots, and 3 PCIe 1x. I want an internal USB3 header. I want quad channel memory. I want it to not have an inbuilt audio solution (I already have a stupid sound card).

Someone please do all my work for me!

AKG Q701 Headphones are really big... (44 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 18:11 CDT, 3 September 2013 - iMsg
A long while ago, I decided I would get some headphones. Because it wasn't a pressing matter, I gave myself some time to research, and I found the AKG K701 headphones. They seemed rather cheap for what they were supposed to be able to do, so I figured I would try them for my first real pair of headphones. I wasn't looking for anything special in my headphones, and since I already have a microphone, and my current pair of headphones had just broken, I figured I could invest some real money into my headphones. Reference headphones sounded fun, so why not?

Anyway, I ordered them from Amazon a little over a week ago. Because Canada really sucks some times, I had to have them sent to my step-father in New Jersey (they would have cost $500, had I bought them over amazon.ca, but on amazon.com they didn't even cost $250, plus free shipping). Anyway, they were mailed to me after they arrived last Friday (note: it's been only weekends since then), and they arrived before I got home from work today. I was really confused when I saw a huge box through my porch window, but at least it wasn't some trick of the eye.

I brought them upstairs, marvelled at them for a couple of minutes, then took a shower. I had been crawling through an attic all day, fixing some troublesome wiring inside the house I'm working at, so I was covered in nasty insulation and dust. There was no way I was going to put on these headphones that cost me just under $300, and get them covered in nasty.

The first thing I noticed was that they were massive. It wasn't quite as evident inside the box, as the window only lets you see half of them. But when I took them out and held them in my hands - and especially when compared to my old $20 headphones - they were huge. Like, really huge. The size isn't quite done justice in a simple screenshot, and even if you see a picture of someone holding them or wearing them, or with some other size reference. For someone coming from crappy $20 headphones (the most expensive audio equipment I've bought, aside from my sound card, was a $60 pair of earbuds), it really is quite surprising.

After I put them on, I was surprised again. For something this big, and this unwieldy to hold, they're surprisingly comfortable. I can feel them, but because I'm so used to undue pressure on my ears from my other crappy headphones, these are really quite hard to complain about. The cups felt somewhat hard, but again: compared to my old headphones they really are great. I'm also told that harder cups mould better to your specific head.

I also noticed that they were damn nice looking. The K701 is more of a silver look, but the Q701 is a solid white, with a green cable. It looks quite snazzy, with the black accents and the little bits of brushed metal. The green cable is somewhat meh, and is a little too tryhard for my tastes (reminds me of Razer, which isn't a good thing). I would have preferred a white or black cable. For the green headphones, by all means - send them with a green cable. But I wanted a pair of WHITE headphones, damn it! It's still hardly a problem. The cable also is made of something I've not seen before. Most cables are made of a crappy rubber, but these seem to be somewhat higher quality - two cables were included, and they are a little sticky to touch, and softer, so they won't hold a shape as well as other harder rubber cables. They also are generously long, and gold plated, because bitches love gold plating.

I haven't listened to enough, or compared anything yet, to make a proper sound judgement on, well, the sound (HEHEHEHE PUN LOL!). They definitely sound better than my old ones, but because I only really have 320kbps mp3s, I don't have much of a comparison. As soon as I ordered them, I tried to find some flacs of the albums I have, so I could properly compare and see for myself if the difference between 320k and flac (which technically could be 320k if it wanted to hehe) is worth it.

Overall, I wouldn't recommend getting $300 headphones, but if you wanted to, I also wouldn't recommend these, because I don't know shit about headphones. If you want to throw money away like I do all the time, then for sure buy something like these, but from what I hear, AKG's cheaper stuff is also damn good, and they even have a small (one pair AFAIK) line of gaming headsets.

In closing, these headphones are fucking huge. God damn...

I got this yesterday. It feels really nice, but it looks like crap. I saw it and some reviews and it looked like exactly what I wanted, but this is my first LCD monitor, so I didn't really have anything to compare it to, other than my perfect-technology CRT monitor.

It was worth the money, though I might look for a good IPS panel some time in the future. I don't know how I'll continue with my purchases and stuff; I'm thinking of getting a computer chassis first, but a second monitor would also be really nice.

Anway, this monitor definitely has good performance. I can feel the lack of bottlenecks; everything is as it should be. There's nothing holding me back from sucking at Quake any more. I can't recommend it because I've never used a [good] LCD monitor before, but take this as a positive comment, and a satisfied customer.

This keyboard is awesome. I ordered it about a week ago, and it arrived right before I got home. I actually called my house half an hour earlier and the person who was here said no packages had arrived, and then half an hour later I arrived to this sexy box with sexy sex in it. Not literal sex though.

Anyway, it feels really nice. It's still hard switching to this type of keyboard from some $12 membrane piece of garbage, but I can sort-of tell what all the hype is about. Ducky is also a really cool company.

When I ordered it from mechanicalkeyboards.com, I added a note saying that this was a lot of money (the entire thing, plus shipping, was around $170), and I actually got a personalised message on the invoice, saying, "this is a piece of paper". It's not much, but it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, knowing that this isn't some mass-produced thing, but instead that there's at least some care put into every order.

It's super loud. I pressed one button and I knew, this was going to suck. Luckily, I also ordered some O-rings a few days ago, so they should be here this week as well. That will help lower the noise substantially. I can't wait to start playing games with this bad boy. Armed with both a Puretrak Talent and a Ducky keyboard, my LG will be godly now, right!?!?

End of journal.

P.S. After using it for less than half an hour, it seems really easy to hit the caps lock key unintentionally, and ctrl + shift is an awkward combination to press.

hot chocolate! (58 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 12:20 CST, 8 January 2013 - iMsg
I've been making a lot of hot chocolate recently. I started with standard hot chocolate powder mix, but I moved on to trying a few different kinds (from "aztec spiced" hot chocolate to white chocolate stuff), and ultimately ended up using cocoa powder with honey. They're all damn good. I make it in huge 1.5-2L jugs (essentially coffee presses or juice jugs), which satisfies my craving for awesomeness.

Anyway, I have a question for ESR: how much of each ingredient do you use? I'm not necessarily asking how much chocolate powder you use - everyone will use a different amount, depending on how much sweet they can handle. I want to know how much water and how much milk you use. Today, I tried a 1:1 ratio of water:milk, and it wasn't that great. I usually go with around 3:1, which is pretty good. I can't really handle extremely hot stuff, so the milk is necessary.

[13:07:20] <KittenIgnition> k, i learned something new today
[13:07:32] <KittenIgnition> if you make hot chocolate with a 1:1 milk:water ratio, it kinda sucks
[13:07:51] <KittenIgnition> it should be at most 1:4
[13:08:06] <KittenIgnition> needs more water, otherwise the milk kinda kills the chocolate flavor
[13:08:19] <Goku> hot chocolate with water
[13:08:20] <Goku> what
[13:08:20] <KittenIgnition> especially since the crappy hot chocolate powder is already milk chocolate
[13:08:36] <KittenIgnition> do you make hot chocolate with whiskey?
[13:09:26] <medve_a_maci> you make it with cucumber and milk
[13:09:56] <Goku> hot chocolate with milk perhaps
[13:09:58] <Goku> you know
[13:10:00] <Goku> like the normal people do
[13:10:52] <KittenIgnition> nobody makes hot chocolate with only milk...
[13:11:25] <Goku> well
[13:11:25] <Goku> I do
[13:11:26] <Goku> :/

tl;dr hot chocolate is awesome, how much milk and how much water do you use?

I need a smooth-as-shit mousepad (75 comments)

Are there any good recommendations for incredibly smooth mousepads? I don't want a hard pad, so something like an Icemat is out of the picture. I also want a large pad, as I'm always hitting the edge of my pad even with my insanely high sensitivity (<10cm/360 with a bit of accel).

My price range is pretty much <$50, preferably including shipping.

I'm looking at the Zowie G-TF Speed. Thoughts?

CRT monitors are the best ever (62 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 09:49 CST, 5 March 2012 - iMsg
I've never really used LCD monitors, and the few times that I did, they weren't very high-quality. I've used CRT monitors for as long as I've been on the computer, and even though they're outdated as fuck and it's really hard to find good ones, they're still really cool.

Anyway, recently I've been playing Borderlands with a few friends, and I'd been having some FPS issues at 1280x1024, with all details at minimum and all that. I was getting about 30fps with constant drops, when I should have been getting much higher FPS. An hour ago or so, I accidentally switched to 1280x720 when trying to cycle between all the resolutions in the menu to 1280x1024. My FPS jumped by a lot, and suddenly I was getting almost 100fps when there wasn't much action (the reason I kept 1280x720 instead of switching to something lower like 800x600, which would probably give me >100fps and 140hz refresh rate, is because 16:9 feels like a good standard to use, and if I were ever to record anything, nobody wants to see 4:3 these days).

My only problem here was that, on a 5:4 display, a 16:9 resolution looks horrible. These modern LCD fuckers have to use GPU scaling to try and get 4:3 resolutions on their monitors, but I don't get down with that shit. I pressed the awesome buttons DIRECTLY ON MY MONITOR to change the scaling and position of the display, that only takes effect at the resolution I'm in when I set everything (I can make the screen different sizes, brightness, tint, etc. for every resolution my monitor can display). I scaled it down so the display was 14.5*8.1 inches roughly, which is 16:9.

I get much better FPS, substantially lower monitor refresh rate, a "modern" resolution, and all-around awesome. But, along with this, I also don't have the problem of this resolution not scaling well with my original resolution, so I don't need to get blurry pictures because of dithering and all that when one virtual pixel is trying to be displayed over two physical pixels.

CRT monitors are great, and I'll be trying my best to not switch to LCD for as long as possible. I hope it lasts a long time, and I hope I get an even better CRT monitor sometime. That would be really nice... 2560x1920 FTW!

tl;dr CRT > LCD, I'm amazing, get good noob

Headphones (59 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 11:48 CST, 17 January 2012 - iMsg
Someone tell me what headphones to get.

My budge is around $50.

I need a mic.

Preferably one that doesn't suck.

Now for shit that actually matters:

I prefer closed-ear stuff. I don't want any sound amplifiers or anything, like bass boost. I don't want this fake surround crap. I want proper stereo headphones that play what they should play. I want a volume control on the cord, but one without a mic mute button/switch. Those just get in the way. I need a long cord (well... not LONG, but not short either. 2m should be sufficient).

It would be cool if the mic was detachable, but that doesn't matter much, as long as it can actually be moved out of the way. A flexible mic isn't as important as one that rotates/swivels, but both are welcome. If it even exists, I don't want any hardware-implemented bullshit on the mic, either.

I'm no audiophile, and am using an onboard soundcard, but I don't want headphones that sound like shit. I also don't want any stupid flashing strobe lights. I'm trying to play video games, not have a fucking dance club in my living room.

Oh, wireless headphones are also kinda welcome. I'm not sure about the "ZOMG MEGA INPUT LAG" factor, but being able to go take a dump and still talk to people on Ventrilo is more than badass.

SUPER EDIT: I actually may just wait a little longer and get some Sennheiser PC 330's. I can get them for <$130 probably, so by February I should have enough. Something "good" before then would be preferable, though.

New mouse and stuffs (2 comments)
Posted by KittenIgnition @ 11:14 CDT, 15 October 2011 - iMsg
I went to Montreal last weekend, and before I left, I took the power cable for "our" XBOX 360, so one of my brothers couldn't use it while I was gone, because I fucking despise him.

Anyway, when I got back, he was raging at me for taking it, and said that he would take my power cord for 3 days. My retort was, "go ahead; I'll just get another one", to which he replied, "then I'll take that one, too". So he did. After I went to bed, he took the cord and hid it somewhere in his room. Little did he know that I had many, MANY backups (well.. about 4 backups, plus the one on my secondary tower that's just sitting there, the one on my monitor, and the one plugged into my actual PC). So for the next couple days, I put up with his shit, and just replaced the cord when I got up.

However, when I went to bed last night, he not only took my power cord, but also my mouse, and he unplugged my monitor in the hopes that it was some sort of modular cable (lol detachable cable @ CRT monitor). I was sort-of distraught, but at the same time happy, because he had forced me to go get a new mouse. The only problem was, I'm complete shit when it comes to interacting with people, so they just steal all my money.

I got a bunch of quarters and went to the convenience store, hoping that the chick there would give me some "real" money in exchange for these silly pieces of metal, because I don't think the electronics store would take kindly to me trying to buy a mouse with 64 quarters. She had actually just gotten a bunch of change from the bank the day before, but because she's so FUCKING COOL, she gave me a $5 in exchange for 20 quarters, which was TOTALLY BADASS OF HER. She's one of my heroes.

After I got my moneys (I had a $10 left over from what my mom gave me for bus fare in Montreal), I went to the computer store. Keep in mind that this is Canada, so naturally there's 2 feet of snow and it's -20C on a warm day, and I'm on my BMX with pants that are too short for me and a crappy windbreaker, plus inside-out, hand-knitted toque from my aunt. I rode uphill, with a cold, into the wind, with rain hitting me in the face, because it had just started to drizzle a little bit. I journeyed on, battling the elements, to my final destination: the computer store not five blocks' distance from my house.

When I finally arrived, I walked through the door, and was instantly greeted by a very heavily appreciated gust of hot air. The store had a heater! I was so relieved that I wanted to just stall so I could let my ice cubes turn back into toes. To my dismay, the transaction was completed in under two minutes. I asked for a mouse, he gave me one, I said it was shit, he gave me another, and I bought it. My exact payment was: one ten dollar bill, one five dollar bill, and four quarters. The price tag actually said $17.99, but he let me buy it for $16, and it turns out that it costs about $20 at other places. I didn't know that at the time, and assumed I was being ripped off, but gave him my money anyway, as usual. I put the box in my backpack and got back on my bike, to journey on home.

Going back was substantially more treacherous, because I had to go up two different slopes. They were long, but not very steep, and I got a nice run-up to the first one because of a relatively steep slope a few meters earlier. I also didn't have to wait to cross the street, because it's so damn cold that nobody is outside anyway. Except my mom, who's working in a fucking sweater and shit. What the fuck is wrong with her? She's insane!

Anyway, I got a new mouse, and it's probably going to be stolen tonight, unless I unplug it and bring it to bed with me. Then my keyboard will be gone, and I'm not going to replace that. If I take that, then my headphones will be gone, and if I take them, then my fucking desk will be gone. I'm pretty much screwed now, but if my brother takes anything else, I will beat his fucking ass with a big black dildo.

itunes is shit (64 comments)

Basically, iTunes is the worst program ever written/conceived. The iOS is the worst OS ever written/conceived.

I need an alternative. I tried iDroid, but it didn't work (I kept having to install a program because I needed a function for another program that enabled access to some folder where I was supposed to install another program that might let me install the OS, and half of the programs were unavailable to me).

If anyone has experience with modding iPods (iPod touch first generation, to be precise), let me know. I desperately need to get this iTunes plague off my computer.

Today, I was sitting on my computer, doing the same old shit, when my brother comes up to me and throws a $10 bill at me: "Go buy some cereal and fruits and stuff. Buy milk!".

So I go and get changed (awesome, baggy sweat pants that are about 10 sizes too big for me, and an awesome neon green West 49 shirt that's a couple sizes too small), get my bag + bike, and leave for the store.

I get there, walk around, see what's goin' on. I ended up just buying some Tropicana orange juice and 4L of milk. I pay for it (it cost a total of $8.03), struggle to fit it all in my backpack, and walk towards my bike. I notice some hoodlums up to no good, walking past my bike, saying something along the lines of, "we should steal that bike". I honestly don't know for sure, but a couple of them were black, so I assume it was about either stealing my bike or mugging the asian in front of us.

It turns out they weren't planning on doing either, and just walked on by, leaving me to safely unlock my bike and ride on home. I bought a can of Dr. Pepper on the way home, because the door to the fridge that houses all the Coca Cola and root beer was broken.

When I got home, I went to put the milk in my fridge, and noticed that there were already 2-3 bags of milk, completely untouched, sitting in there already. I realized that what my brother had said was, "DON'T BUY MILK!", but I had no doubt that he told me to buy some, so I didn't question it.

Anyway, complete waste of money and time. I'm quite disappointed.

http://www.pwpclan.org/general-chat-f1/quake-...htm#132992

Well, for the past hour or so a group of people and I were not spamming the forums, but reposting topics that kept getting deleted by id moderators about the negatives upon this new update. I posted such threads as "The reason you pay up front" and "Why Q3 Trumps QL". Consequently enough, I was banned, so I started posting on my other account. Shortly after reposting all my threads from my previous account, I was confronted with this:

the thing?

The reason I was banned is simple. I was bad publicity, criticizing the new update, the company for scamming new players, and all that. Here's an example of one of my posts:

"The reason you pay up front is simple, once id has your $48, they don't have to deal with you for a whole year. You pay up front in hopes that you will receive the quality game you deserve. Here's the thing though, if id took 2 years to bring new content to the table, and takes forever in updating problems that constantly arise, and are always complaining about being understaffed, how did that change? Simple fact, it didn't.

The reason you pay up front is so id has your money and you have the Quake Live that is sitting on your monitor right now, but that's ALL you will get. Why would id waste their time updating, bringing 'new' content, and responding to customer's problems when they have all their money already?

Save your money."

I get banned for telling the truth, for telling my opinions about a game I find to be a scam. And I wasn't the only one! I can understand deleting my posts, but an IP ban? The company will lose customers undoubtedly when negative feedback is simply being deleted and banned. I spit on Quake Light.

posted from tool_. this was funny... i might pull out my other accounts if the forums let me log out/back in :(

we have a cpma server that has the maps on it as well, but i lost the ip. i might try to dig it up, but the person who runs it is a bitch and i think she passworded it anyway :( server is called pwnation.

so anyway, the maps do exist and are real blah blah blah.

theres a screenshot gallery with like 40+ screenshots in it:
