The Razer Diamondback was my very first gaming mouse and I still love its shape. The unique shape combined with the weight (only 9g heavier than an Abyssus) makes it a very interesting mouse for people with the hands of a 10 year old like myself.

I've read a ton of negative things about laser mice and it seems to be a hobby for some to bash on everything that uses a laser sensor. But how bad is it? The main issue seems to be accel because the laser picks up on too many details, especially on mousepads which aren't really suited for them. Short explanation between optical & laser by Linus:




So dear ESR...what are your thoughts on the matter? Am I wrong to assume that the technology must have improved in one way or another over the past years? Anyone here who's using a laser mouse and what are your experiences.

James Gandolfini -- who famously played Tony Soprano on "The Sopranos" -- died earlier today in Italy ... TMZ has learned.

Gandolfini is believed to have suffered a heart attack. He was 51.

Gandolfini was in Italy to attend the 59th Taormina Film Festival in Sicily -- and he was scheduled to participate in a festival event this weekend with Italian director Gabriele Muccino.

Gandolfini shot to fame playing a hitman in the 1993 hit "True Romance" ... and quickly became a Hollywood legend when he was cast as Tony Soprano in 1999. He won 3 Emmy awards for the role during the show's 6 season run.

Seems like Cooller has been doing something which causes him to lose a lot of games vs much lesser players lately. He went from 2220 to 1858 in a matter of hours, surely another record for our beloved Quake powner.

This topic is devoted to unusual binds/settings you find in the settings of some of the better players. Some stuff I've found:

Cooller and tox use invert mouse:
seta m_pitch "-0.022" and seta m_pitch "-0.018"

strenx, Spart1e and av3k somehow all use
seta cg_hitBeep "1"

..which means they never know if they just shot a facerocket, all hitsounds sound the same.

rapha uses a ridiculously high accel:
seta cl_mouseAccel ".48"

av3k has the "you killed ..." disabled:
seta cg_drawFragMessages "0"

Cooller likes gameboy graphics:
seta r_mode "5"

pavel uses a pretty low sens but seems to compensate this with both a very high horizontal and vertical sens:
seta m_pitch "0.036"
seta m_yaw "0.028"

You all know the feeling where you run around with a 200-200 stack, like a pig in sh*t, and then your opponent does something completely random. Portal frags, grenades to the face, getting knocked into the lava, plasma (biggest bullshit weapon I've ever seen and can pretty much mess up an entire game but won't go into specifics).... you name it.

How do you manage to stay calm? Noticed rapha has some sort of "cmon.." bind, dunno how serious that is.

I mananged to find a couple of brand new WMO's, and decided to see what all the fuzz was about.

It looks great, has a perfect shape, feels light... but for some reason the sensor seems to randomly skip a few pixels every minute or so. Could my Razer Goliathus be the problem? Never had any issues with my Abyssus.

How do most people here have their WMO configured? When I plugged it in, Windows instantly started downloading drivers (v 8.2). I suppose it's at 400 DPI now. Mouse rate is on 125 Hz.

BTW: If some people here are still looking for a brand new black WMO, I might consider selling my spare one (unused obviously).

I've always played on r_mode 9 (800*600), but for esthetical reasons I tried increasing my r_mode so it matches my native resolution (1920*1080).

Everything does indeed look a lot sharper, but mouse movement suddenly feels completely messed up. It pretty much feels like my sens has increased, especially when tracking horizontally.

What's the logical explanation behind this, and what can I do about it?

Spewing out dates for something without ever actually sticking to the 'deadline' seems to happen a lot lately. Sup with that?

First of all I'd like to say that I'm quite new to the whole quake community, so most of you will probably have never heard of me. This however shouldn't restrict my opinion on certain recent announcements regarding Dreamhack Winter 2011.

Like a couple of you, I recently switched to Quake, and QuakeLive in particular since I got bored of another game called ET (which happens to be an id Software production aswell). I became pretty active around may/june, which was right around the time Dreamhack Summer 2011 was being played. While I was still getting to know the scène, the top players and browsed through a couple of memorable _i am talking it_ interviews, it was a real joy to follow my first QL event. Especially the QL duel event made my draw drop. Seeing all of the top players compete at the highest level during one single weekend made me realise what enormous amount of experience, aim and especially gamesense somebody needed to even compete on this level.

Now, just 4 months later, QL's future seems pretty uncertain. Even though the Dreamhack crew probably did quite some effort to be able to provide a TDM tournament, it's just not the same. After duel being dropped by IEM & ESCW, it seems like one of the last resorts, besides Quakecon, has (without even maybe fully realising) given up on duel, and if it wasn't for the TDM tournament on Quake itself. Don't get me wrong, I strongly admire all the work people and organizations put into getting all of the sponsors, prize money, setups and stuff like that but it just feels like QL really needed this. Some of you (especially the more experienced players I pressume) are probably great supporters of TDM, but as a fairly new player I've noticed that the gametype doesn't really appeal to new users. A couple of people, including me, did watch the TDM stream and except for the few quad rushes, none of us really enjoyed watching the games.

Watching quake legends like Cooller & Cypher battle it out mano-a-mano in a bo3 just seemed more enjoyable to watch. Just knowing how much history some of these players have gives it a magical touch. Especially if you throw in a couple of other amazing players like rapha, strenx, avekk,. you name it. This would be the main reason why (hopefully) a lot of you were and still are dissapointed that Dreamhack Winter 2011, showmatches aside, will not feature a duel tournament. Especially with a couple of players coming back like tox and czm, and people stepping up their game like strenx I feel like now isthe perfect time to organize a duel tournament.

How desperate and ridiclous some of you may find my wall of text, I think we should come up with a couple of ideas to ensure DHW 2011 will host a duel tournament. Why not ask some of the "leaders" of the ql community to step up to the plate and maybe try to reason with the Dreamhack crew? Why not ask some, if not all of the top players, to show how they feel about the recent announcements? Why not ask a skilled moviemaker to create a DreamHack Winter Quake Live Hype video, like the one was made for TDM and show how vibrant QL duel can really be? And as a last resort, we might even contact id Software to finally do something about this game, since quake is part of their company history. Even though that last one is probably a long shot.

I myself am too much of a newschooler to think of what may be the solution here. For the meantime I'll just be hoping for a couple of serious respones on how we can all see rapha +backing, cypher ninja'ing, strenx LG'ing and cooller coollering their way to Jönköping in a bit more than one month...

Since my almost 4 year old Samsung 226 BW which runs at 60 Hz doesn't seem to really perform that good in QL I've been looking at some second hand monitors.

Buying a new 2233RZ wasn't really an option because I didn't feel like spending 200-250 EUR just to bump my Hz up to 120 Hz when there are CRT's out there that will always outperform these LCD's.

I've managed to find a Sony Trinitron GDM-F520 online. It's in a pretty solid condition, is 7 years old but only has been used for 3 years and above all.. it's pretty cheap (25 EUR). Before I close the deal I'd like to know a couple of things:

- The guy who's willing to sell it says it always ran on 1600x1200@85Hz and that's also the maximum refresh rate. Since it's a trinitron panel.. I hope he never really looked into it and just doesn't know it should be able to run at 140 Hz at least, and actually 170 Hz at it's best judging by the "vertical refresh rate: 170 Hz" which I've found online.

- I'm running W7 x64, will I have any trouble with my O/S in combination with certain resolutions / refresh rates? I've read some horror stories about people having to switch back to XP to get their desired refresh rate.

- Will my CRT quest really be worth all the hassle?

The trailer was released 10 months ago.. any idea when the full movie should be released?
