appling these are quite similar to the newschool id games (like wolf). you can use these in the steam launch options. only a space required beetween them.

Cacowards 2015 (2 comments)
Posted by mdv @ 11:28 CST, 10 December 2015 - iMsg
"Doom is now twenty-two years old and shows no sign of slowing down. Gameplay modders, map authors, musicians, coders, and more continue to trickle in to an aged yet vibrant community. It's the best damn custom content community out there, and I'm not just counting Doomworld. If you're interacting with Doom in almost any capacity, I'd like to thank you for keeping the spirit alive, and for giving me a reason to stay on and help author the twelfth annual Cacowards. Along with the rest of the crew, we called up TerminusEst13, because us claiming any sort of authoritative knowledge about the Doom gameplay mod scene would be a statement made out of boundless egotism... not that we're that much more qualified to speak of everything else.

One of the coolest things to happen this year didn't have anything to do with Doom directly, but it's a Doom engine game, and it involved a few very cool Doom community members. Kaiser, Quasar, and ptoing helped to kick this season off with the re-release of Strife called the Veteran Edition, a game that used to be one of the poster children for cases against abandonware. While there were a number of additions like dynamic lighting and bloom, not to mention a secret quest, the original IWAD is still distributed in the package for historical sticklers. Perhaps, some day, we'll see some sort of re-release of Perdition's Gate and Hell to Pay?

That isn't the only white whale that the community managed to slay, though. 2015 also saw the release of the mythical GPL-compliant iteration of GZDoom, codename GLOOME, opening up the highly modified id Tech 1 engine as a potential base for indie developers. Alternatively, if GLOOME so offends you, there's plain ol' GZDoom-GPL. I also joked about Erik Alm coming back to the community, but it looks like the Doomworld Megawad Club's playthrough of Scythe 2 was just the ritual required to get him to poke his head back in. Another prediction I made was that 2015 was going to be a real blood tornado, and while it's great to have a year that's chock full of fantastic releases to play, that doesn't make it any easier. Of the four years I've been writing the Cacowards, this has been by far the hardest. Hearts will be broken; I assure you that it hurt us more to make them than it will hurt you to read them.

Ty Halderman was an inarguable essential pillar of the community, a fixture so taken for granted that his absence was only felt when it became clear that the /idgames archives were not being updated with his usual clockwork regularity. It was a practice he continued even after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, until he could literally Do No More. He passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 31st. May he rest in peace."

Mercs played; Fragger, Skyhammer, Kira, Vassilli. Played the Open Cup as fragger for topKEK, which is why he is used so much here.

Reflex supports serverside demos only, and probably will stay as that. Newborn said they gonna make a csgo-ish system where you can download your demo from the server, so no clientside demos...however the serverdemo has every players pov.

How to play demo: put replay file into the Steam\SteamApps\common\reflexfps\base\replays folder. use play command ingame. Change pov by typing re_set_player_attached_to PLAYERNAME

Fortress Forever Steam Release (23 comments)

"Fortress Forever is a Source mod inspired by the earlier versions of the Team Fortress series (Team Fortress Classic and QuakeWorld Team Fortress). Our all-volunteer team has created this mod entirely from scratch and continued to develop it for over 5 years now. It was originally released in September of 2007.

Fortress Forever involves two or more teams, each with 9 available classes, competing in a variety of map-determined objectives (capture the flag, territorial control, invade and defend, etc). Each class has its own unique abilities and strengths that offer extremely varied playstyles. The gameplay ranges from fast-paced, competitive, and deep to absurd and chaotic.

- Totally free
- Fast paced, team- and class-based gameplay
- Faithful to the spirit of Team Fortress Classic (TFC) and QuakeWorld Team Fortress (QWTF), meaning Fortress Forever
- includes offhand grenades, bunnyhopping, etc
- 10 Classes (9 + Civilian)
- Training level and in-game hints
- Extensive map scripting/customization using Lua"

A new Doom 2 world record has been set, the second improvement in the last 10 years. Author Zero-Master claims that the time can still be improved and that the speed runners are actively pursuing that goal - breaking the 23 minute mark. Current record improved the time by whooping 22 seconds.

Starting back in the summer of 2010, the estimated time for this run was thought to be roughly 27 minutes. However, after almost four years of painstaking planning, theorycrafting and execution, we have arrived at our final time, smashing all of our wildest expectations.

Not only do we owe this new world-record time to all the new tricks we've discovered, the new routes we've found and the new ways we've learned to manipulate the game. A lot of the improvement from the first estimation and the previous world record (29 minutes, 41 seconds) comes from the very hard work and countless hours put into perfecting each and every segment, no matter how short or trivial. This run has truly been an endurance test for everyone involved, and we're extremely happy to finally be able to share it with you.

Enjoy, Half-Life in 20 minutes, 41 seconds!

Technical details:
* This run sets the new world record for a segmented speedrun of Half-Life on Hard difficulty with an improvement of 9 minutes. (29:41 » 20:41).
* Runners, in order of total amount of segments: quadrazid, CRASH FORT, coolkid, pineapple, YaLTeR, Spider-Waffle, FELip.
* The total amount of segments is 317, 249 of which are shorter than 5 seconds.
* 107 saves/segments was made only to cause and abuse save glitches. 53 of those being at Nihilanth.
* This run is heavily scripted using the in-game console, the most widely used scripts are jump spam, duck spam, 180ş turn for gauss boost and precise use-key actions.
* To use the better demo functionality and the support of higher FPS values in the Steam version, a mod have been made to restore the gameplay to the way it was before the anti-bhop patch back in 2001. The mod also features a lot of new HUD elements to aid speedrunning. Read more and download here: http://wiki.sourceruns.org/wiki/Bunny...

A time sheet explaining the run in great detail can be found by following this link:

Last of all, we'd like to thank everyone who supported us during this run, and thank you for watching!

Excellent editing, not overlay aggressive colors, and insane shots on classic Team Fortress maps.

Fragmovie collection on youtube (6 comments)

hi folks. i was helping out maverick's new fragmovie site, which is pretty much the son of old ownage site. before all of the links died on ownage, he mirrored a lot of movie files from there (mostly quake of course). he decided to make a site for all those mirrored files. this was http://igmdb.org/ . the concept of the site is based on mainly youtube (or other) streams, plus the mirror links. ive seen a lot of q4 movies there, and decided to upload the missing q4 movies from quakeunity, and i think ive made a pretty good job gathering all of the movies for q4.

heres igmdb site profiles: http://igmdb.org/?page=search&game_id=30

and heres a youtube list: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLH_BdUa...uE7W05I0HL

of course some of the youtube vids had too much copyrighted tracks, so they got deleted from yt. i had to edit the audio tracks and paste some other music in. some others are just unavailable in germany (for the fellow german quakers, i would recommend a mozilla plugin called proxytube, letting them watch these restricted movies). and of course if someone knows some other movies, and has the original files, let me know in the comment section below. thanks guys.

Fortress Forever $1000 4v4 League (5 comments)
Posted by mdv @ 04:56 CST, 23 January 2013 - iMsg
found this news about Fortress Forever on moddb, maybe some of you is interested in watching or compete in it (ff is very similar to team fortress classic, but its a free source mod):

"First of all, at long last, Fortress Forever has been submitted to Steam Greenlight. If FF gets Greenlit, you would be able to install and update Fortress Forever through Steam like you would a commercial game. Because Fortress Forever is still being actively developed, this is actually a big deal. It would both make it easier for players to install and update the game and easier for us to release updates.

someone linked this shootmania vid on irc. a fragmovie about the new uk and eu dignitas team. this actually makes the game look playable: nice frags / editing / music / fonts.

ive made a video about installing quake 3, because the retail setup wont work on newer systems, and there are really good installers made by the community. features:
- ezq3
- proinstaller
- fraglove
- my pack

ive found the demos for the old speedrun for quake2 called "quake 2 done quake", and i managed to record it on a newer engine called berserker@quake2. luckyly the engine creator helped me to run the demos prefectly.
ive just made this cause i hate to watch these n+1 part episodes on youtube in 240p. so i recorded it in fraps, added the original soundtrack, cut out the loading screen to make it more fluently, and uploaded it in a 20 minute file.

theres a few secs in black somewhere in the video; its a wierd renderbug, but its cool

big a$$ lag (3 comments)
Posted by mdv @ 04:38 CST, 2 March 2012 - iMsg
i have some serious lag sometimes. its not exactly a lag, but a freeze or somekind. the game decides to isolate itself, and wont react to anything. i can see the enemy or teammates moving properly so its obviusly not net lag or someting like that.
no quit bind, no console, no alttab, no nothing. im just watchin shit happening. nothing is running in the background, not even music. another guy had the same problem like i did, and found some post in the ql forum too, but no reaction from id (of course). as u can see, the game will thnik you are pushing the same buttons during this "lag".

since no living creature reads the forum, i tried to contact ql support directly from the site, but they only said they gonna consider fixing the problem, i should make a post about it...blablabla. i replyed that it would be a good idea to make a proper client instead of this browser thing (at least for the premium/pro guys), and i know they dont read the forums, and im sick of these botreply msgs. well the supporttroll sent a similar msg...i called him a moron...he said he will suspend my profile for calling him a moron...so thats all about the fantastic support.

i happened to find a solution: some kid told that he bought a duel core, and it solved the problem...well i have no money for machine. anybody have any idea how to solve this?
