"Collegiate Star league (CSL) is happy to announce our partnership with Bethesda to bring you the official Quake Collegiate Championship! This school year were set to bring both 4v4 and 1v1 formats to the collegiate space. Quake was the first real esport and the release of Quake Champions is going to provide a huge boost to the franchises community, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.
This years competitive season will feature a $100,000 prize pool divided between 4v4 Sacrifice mode and 1v1 Duel mode.
This Fall well host monthly beta tournaments. Each tournament will be played on the Sacrifice (4v4) game mode and feature a $150 prize pool, awarded to the winning team. These tournaments will be single elimination:"
Registration will open January 1 and will be free to enter. Teams must consist of 4 players from the same university and must satisfy general CSL eligibility requirements (full time student status in good academic standing). The league will then begin in February and run through June. The top 4 teams from the league will earn an all expense paid trip to QuakeCon 2018 to play LIVE for the championship!
Registration for our individual league will open in May and will be free to enter. Teams are comprised of one individual, but there is no summer school status requirement. Students must have at least been full time in Spring 2018 to be eligible to compete. The regular season begins in June and concludes in July, with the top 8 individual players advancing to QuakeCon 2018 to play LIVE for the championship!
"Excited? We are, too! Get ready for a year of awesome Quake Champions! We hope that youre as excited as we are to kick off the season. Stay tuned for a detailed ruleset and registration which will open within the next two weeks."
The biggest quake tournament weve seen in many years, the Quake World Championship, is coming to an end at the final day of tournaments action in Quakecon 2017. This is the end of the line, the grand finals, theres no longer room for gambling or doubt anymore, it's time to win, and get a place on the glorious list of the biggest champions in Quake history
Stay tuned for more action in Saturday 26th at 08:00 CST
After an intense first day, the Quake World Championship second day promises even more exciting fast paced action at the Quakecon 2017. Sacrifice group stages are over and there are only 4 teams remaining going into the semifinals, the match ups are: NOTOFAST vs Liquid and 2z vs The defendants. All-super-star team NOTOFAST seems to be doing great at the moment and is pretty much demolishing all opposition they encounter, so could the americans make an upset? they are pretty much all against the odds, thats for sure. Meanwhile In the second match we got 2z with an strong performance so far in the tournament that seems to give them the upperhand over The Defendants, however, well prolly see the later ones put a hell of a fight to get an opportunity to get into the grand finals.
Duel action has pretty much just getting started with only one round taking place in the first day of QuakeCon, nevertheless, we already witnessed incredible action and some pretty big upsets regarding the first round of the group stages of the Quake World Championship. The most crucial ones being: Raisy (a pretty much non-quaker and mostly a CS player) demolishing Tox on LAN, just as in the Regionals, american new blood dueller dooi beating old QL dark horse strenx in a 2-0 fashion, the day by day stronger swedish player fazz beating last year Quakecons runner up evil, and of course, the old legend and russian superstar Anton Singov, better known as Cooller, completely destroying rapha in a both shocking and amazing 2-0 (6-0) performance.
Stay tuned for more action in Friday 25th at 08:00 CST 11:00 CST
It's time! The day has finally come for the Quake World Championship at QuakeCon 2017. Players from all around the world will come to Dallas, Texas for a chance to compete for a $1 million prize pool. In the last past years (with the declining of Quake at the e-sports main reflector) players have been competing mostly for legacy and glory only, and even one French man said that the game was too old already that no one had nothing to prove anymore. Well, now this is a whole new game and a whole new field, the big money is back and along with it is also the big and fierce competition. This also will be the first Quakecon to feature the new Quake title from id: Quake Champions, some strange version of the long awaited Quake 5, and pretty much the last opportunity for the Quake franchise to get back to the big stages of competitive gaming.

"After the reveal that Cypher wont be able to attend QuakeCon 2017, Virtus.pro decided to find equally talented player to represent our organisation during the tournament. Managing crew was scouting the scene, trying to find the best match for our current players. Candidate's rich professional history, high current form and motivation determined our decision. As a result, Virtus.pro signed another legend Maciej "Av3k" Krzykowski.
I'm very happy that I got a chance to join Virtus.pro. They are an organisation I've been admiring for a long time. It feels like all managing staff are on the highest level of professionalism. The key to VP's success are the people who are building it. The upcoming year is filled with numerous Quake tournaments, so it will be a crucial period for my cooperation with Virtus.pro. I'm willing to work hard to repeat my previous years' success in Quake. I want to stand on the podium of one of the most important championships
Last week we had to accept the fact that Alexey Cypher Yanushevsky will be unable to represent us in QuakeCon 2017. For us, Quake Champions is a high-priority discipline, so Machei Av3k Kshuvosky will not only participate under our banner in duel format, but also become Cypher's teammate in 4 x 4 games. I am sure about his potential, so I would like to congratulate our polish fans the ranks of national polish e-sports legends who represent Virtus.pro have grown!.
Despite him being a relatively young player, Av3ks carrier is older than some of our fans. He started his gaming adventure from a very early age and quickly secured the title of one of the most recognisable Quake players.
Among such stars as Cooller and Cypher, Maciej has reached top ranks multiple times during international tournaments. In fact, not only was Av3k one of the Cyphers lifetime rivals, but he also happened to be his teammate a couple times. We can call it a love-hate relationship. At least for the next year, these two are bound together under the VP's name."

"The Regional Finals are Here! After four weeks of intense Qualifiers, the worlds best have earned their chance to compete for a spot in the Quake World Championship Finals. The only thing standing in their way is a date with destiny at the Regional Finals. Of the sixteen teams and sixty-four Duelers, half of the competitors will move on to the Finals at QuakeCon, and the other half will be sent packing.
The qualification period is over. It is time to win or go home!."
"Today we are pleased to inform all fans of Natus Vincere G2A that the organization is set to expand into competitive Quake Champions. Natus Vincere G2A will from now on be represented by Anton Singov, more commonly known as «Cooller», a legendary Quake player and a multiple-time international champion with over $ 300,000 prize money secured during his professional career.
Anton consistently performs at an exceptional level and is truly a professional at what he does. Besides Quake, hes also had a solid showing in Overwatch, when he managed to win DreamHack Winter 2016 aboard of the International Misfits roster.
The first challenge awaits Cooller very soon as he will be participating in MediaMarkts duel tournament which boasts a total prize pool of 300,000 RUB. The competition is slated to take place at Moscow's Aviapark mall."
"Weve been keeping an eye on Quake Champions for several months already and, after weighing up all the pros and cons, have finally decided to expand into it. As for the player choice, we had an easy time picking the right person, as Cooller is a true champion, a born-to-win player. Welcome to our esports family!"
"Natus Vincere is a special organization to me. Since their formation, we have often bumped into each other at different IEM and DH championships and reached finals of the majority of those. It was then when we got closer with Na`Vis CS players in terms of mutual support and morale. While playing important matches in quarterfinals, semis and finals, I always knew that Edward, markeloff, Zeus, starix, ZeroGravity and ceh9 were supporting us from behind. Na`Vi is something thats close to my heart.
I would like to thank Na`Vis management for giving me the opportunity to join such a great organization. Despite tough times, it is still on top and I hope I will be able to contribute to its further development.
I believe that Quake Champions will evolve into a solid professional esports title which will be well worth spending time on. Lets go!"

"One of the best Quake players in the world, Alexey Cypher Yanushevsky, has joined Virtus.pro and will represent our organization at QuakeCon. American and European teams showed an avid interest in the Belarusian player, who eventually chose in favor of Virtus.pro, with which he has signed a year-long contract.
After putting his Quake career on a hiatus in 2015, Cypher tried playing Overwatch, but returned to his original discipline following the announcement of the Quake Champions beta, and went on to win its first online tournament.
Cypher is among the Quake players with the most titles. To date, he is the quadruple winner of QuakeCon (2008, 2010, 2012, 2014). He is also a multiple winner of ESWC, DreamHack, European Extreme Masters, and ASUS Open."
The terms that Virtus.pro offered me were definitely no worse than those of American teams. Besides, I wasnt particularly eager to move; I wanted to stay in Minsk. Im not going to make up any tales about being a lifelong Virtus.pro fan, but I know this organizations history well, and I like the way its developing.
Following some minor patches in the previous weeks, the 6/27 Quake Champions Patch introduces new Duel mode dynamic (best of 5 instead of best of 3), Clutch champion improvements, rocket delay fix, HMG nerfing, and new spectator features for better streaming experience. Check out the full Patchlog below:
"Tomorrow (June 27) at 6am ET, we'll be conducting maintenance to deploy our latest patch. With this patch, we are expecting a longer than average server downtime, with an estimated reopen time of around 2pm ET. We'll keep you posted as soon as the servers are back up. Below are the full patch notes. One note in particular that we'd like to address is a fix we're implementing to greatly reduce latency in firing rocket/nail projectiles. To help illustrate the changes, we've included an image to show latency between Quake Live, CBT 11 (pre-6/27 patch), and CBT 12 (the 6/27 patch). We look forward to hearing your thoughts after the patch goes live with this change.
As always, we look forward to hearing your feedback once these changes go live. Thank you, all!"
Fixed the projectile delay, greatly reducing the latency between firing the weapon and the rocket/nail projectile appearing (image above)
Reduced frequency of pings in Datacenter Selection UI. This should help players who were seeing no available datacenters, or pings that were too high
We've made improvements to prevent player disconnects
Burial Chamber: Fixed an issue where a section of the lava pool wouldnt cause damage
Burial Chamber: Fixed an issue where you could get stuck performing a Rocket Jump into a wall in the Side Alcove
Corrupted Keep and Blood Run now available in Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch modes!
Corrupted Keep: Fixed various collision issues

"In 2006, aged only 16, Alexey "Cypher" Yanushevsky was signed by Fnatic. By that point, he was already one of the strongest Quake players out there both the third and fourth instalment. Cypher continued to make a living playing quake until 2014. According to him, it was only in 2011, when the first International was announced, that Quakes lagging behind other esports disciplines began to be felt.
Cypher spent the last year and a half playing Overwatch, but switched to Quake Champions when its beta was announced and went on to win its very first online tournament. CyberSport.ru talked to Yanushevsky about his career in Overwatch, the Quake Champions meta, and the esports prospects of this new game."
Preview:
Is it fair to say Quake Champions has become too much of an arcade game?
Cypher: It became simpler by an order of magnitude. This is a game in which you cant heal yourself back to full, the way you could in previous Quake instalments; you cant stack up and just circle the map killing everyone. Thats why the game used to be one-sided; there would be the one guy who was killing everyone and having fun.
Here, its built a bit differently. Youve got abilities you can use in a mass fight, and besides, a hero has a health cap that cant be exceeded. No matter how many megahealths and armors you pick up, if you get hit from a railgun, the second hit will kill you, unless youre some super-fat tank. And if you are a super-fat tank, youre very easy to hit.
Theyve balanced the game with newcomers in mind. In Quake III, you respawn with a machine gun, 125 HP, and zero armor, and until you pick up a good gun and a more or less decent armor suit, you wont be fragging anyone. Here, you can take down someone whos full-HP with just that machine gun. You cant be chased around spawn points. The abilities, the invisibility, the orbs, the teleports, its all about doing everything to prevent top-tier players from owning noobs, to stop noobs having 0/45 runs.
The first time Quake 1 was uniquely featured in a tournament at QuakeCon was in 1996, when NetQuake was the premiere competitive mode. Only a year later a QuakeWorld 1on1 tournament took place at QuakeCon. This years QuakeCon celebrates the 20th anniversary of Quake featuring a $25,000 Intel QUAKEWORLD 2on2 Team Deathmatch Open.
QuakeWorld is one of the fastest FPS there exist. On this day the Quake scene looks at the QuakeWorld tourney at QuakeCon.
Andeh wrote on quakeworld.nu:
One of the biggest tournaments in QuakeWorld history is at our doorstep just waiting to start and it's time for a power rank! The 11 teams confirmed to participate shall all be ranked from top to bottom with no regards to region. $25'000 is up for grabs in this wonderful 20 year anniversary tournament and I'm sure every team would like a bite of that cake. In a LAN setting, anything can happen and dreams will undoubtedly be shattered in Texas. There are many teams that could be crowned champions in this tournament and each of the big teams have been practicing to reach the goal of becoming the 2016 QuakeCon Champions. This tournament will never be forgotten. One team will go down in history. One team will always be remembered as the team that won QuakeCon 2016. The 20 year anniversary. The most grand of them all. Let's get right into it...
More info about the 11 teams you can read in the article Quakecon 2016 Power Rank.
