Anyone else playing Quake3 under OSX with any success?

I've got the latest version of Leopard on a Macbook Pro. The official ID Software executables crash randomly (on map changes, when I hit escape to go to a menu, etc.). The ioquake3 executable has good stability, but the sound is very staticy/fuzzy, making the game pretty much unplayable.

Do I just have to bite the bullet and get windows xp installed in order to play using the challenge quake 3 client? What other options are there?

add these bad posters to your ignore list since they won't ever actually get banned!
