In the 500th episode of my "Reflections" series I interviewed Victor "Makaveli" Cuadra, elite dueler and Quake legend.

Makaveli was one of the pioneers of the professional Quake 2 duel scene in the late 90s, along with friends and rivals Thresh and immortal. Players like Fatal1ty and ZeRo4 have credited him with inspiring their approach to pro play. He became the "unofficial world champion" after beating Shub in an exhibition series after the Norwegian had won EDL.

Makaveli discussed his recent recontextualising of his playing career, the reasons he chose a life without esports and how archiving his past has changed his perspective.

250 FPS Season 3 has started! It will be really hot. 4 qualified players, 4 invitees and 8 top players from the previous season are going to fight for $10,000 over 3 months.

The league starts today June 28 and ends October 5. It is going to be four qualifying tournaments. First places will advance to the main stage where they will play with 4 invited players and 8 best players from the previous season in a round-robin system. The top four players will compete in the super final for an additional prize.

FPSCup 02 was a series of defrag tournaments, it was held throughout winter 2024. While writing this text, the third iteration ended recently.

FPSCup 02 have been organised by Rain and had an amazing output regarding maps. The participation was huge and the trickjumping community produced lots of astonishing runs. The cup was divided into 7 rounds and afterwards all points had been summed up. The video includes the demos of the round winners.

250 FPS QL League returns with a second season!

The league will run for two months, starting on April 12, 2025. There will be a lot of interesting matches for the total prize pool 3,500$ by EGB. They also provide an opportunity to place bets on each match. So you can even earn a little money if you know the players well enough.

The league will start with four qualifying tournaments for everyone. First and second places will advance to the main part, where they will play with 8 invited players in a round-robin system. The top four players will compete in the super final for an additional prize.

The next Quake 3 Defrag competition, FPS Cup 03, is set to begin on March 8. This tournament will feature seven maps, crafted by some of the best mappers in the community. The event will run for seven weeks, with one round per week. To mark the occasion, a stunning promotional trailer has been created by Bliccer. Prepare your skills, warm up your hands, and get ready for the challenge. The full schedule will be announced closer to the tournament's start.

In the 480th episode of my "Reflections" series I interviewed Kurt "immortal" Shimada, CPL champion and Quake 2 legend.

immortal was one of the pioneers of the professional Quake 2 duel scene in the late 90s, along with friends and rivals Thresh and Makaveli. The champion of the CPL's Extreme Annihilation in 1999, he is best known for upsetting Thresh at PGL S3 on Q2DM3.

immortal discusses his time as a pro, why he stepped away and some of the other adventures he had over the years.

Quake III DeFRaG run on the most detailed strafe map of this size ever made.

This project was completed over the span of 3 years and it has been worked on in secrecy.
The goal was to publish it by the end of 2024 as this year in December, Quake III is celebrating the 25th anniversary of it's release.

The map was designed by IMOOR in co-operation with and tested by n00k1e. The base for this map was a much shorter, weapons-style version: DFWC2019-4. That map was then modified and expanded in every possible dimension and and what came out in the end, exceeded our expectations. The amount of detail on such a huge level is simply mind blowing and will hopefully be appreciated. Just this one map alone takes around as much disk space by itself as the whole original Quake III Arena game.

To give you some more context on how detailed it is, UNDERWORLD contains almost 3000 custom made models and close to 90000 brushes, compared to some Q3 classics:
Q3DM6 (The Camping Grounds) - 48 models and 2081 brushes
Q3DM13 (The Lost World) - 35 models and 1604 brushes
Q3DM17 (The Longest Yard) - 12 models and 456 brushes

So a huge shout-out to IMOOR for the amount of work he had put into this. His commitment to mapping is simply on another level. Making a clean, fast run and editing the video was also quite challenging and exhausting for me as well, but we have done it and we can now share it with you all. Enjoy!
