Posted by Thorin @ 04:20 CST, 28 February 2011 - iMsg
In a video interview from his pre-IEM V World Championship bootcamp SK Gaming's United States of America Shane "rapha" Hendrixson discussed the groups and his mindstate going into the tournament.

What was rapha's initial reaction to seeing the group drawings? Why does rapha really like playing Belarus Cypher? Is it a foregone conclusion that Poland av3k will win group A? How has the layover since DreamHack affected rapha's level?

The interview can be watched at SK Gaming.

IEM5 World Finals Previews (19 comments)
Posted by xou @ 02:45 CST, 28 February 2011 - iMsg
The IEM Season V World Finals are taking first step tomorrow morning at 03:30 CST. Sadly again, nobody on ESReality used the Contribute link to try and write a preview of the competition. But a few writers from the community shared their thoughts about the Group Stage through various websites.

Over at TEK9, Belgium Bcrbo put up another great piece where it's hard to see any top3 emerging and questioning the format of the tournament.

On FNATIC.com, Australia frequency reviewed the two groups and their favorites, without putting too much focus into the team's players.

And finally on ESFI World, United States of America d1ngdong released the 3rd part of his Quakelive preview which is dedicated to Russia Cooller, United States of America rapha and Australia dandaking. The 4th and last part should come shortly!

Update: Better late than never, United Kingdom SwitchbacK posted his preview on SK Gaming during the night!

We were able to speak with United States of America Paul "czm" Nelson a few days before his trip to Germany Hanover to participate in the IEM 5 World Championships. Although he hasn't been able to find enough time to prepare for the event as he would like, he said simply that he'll do his best and has been taking each practice match one at a time.

ESFI's IEM "3-a-days" - Quakelive Part 2 (22 comments)
Posted by xou @ 04:14 CST, 23 February 2011 - iMsg
The second part of the IEM5 Quakelive Finals preview by ESFI World has just been published yesterday. This new piece focuses on Group A, and more specifically on Sweden fazz, France strenx and Poland av3k.

Here is a short excerpt of the little conclusion on strenx:
The majority of Quake fans will have no second thoughts in placing their bets on Baeza finishing in the top three to advance out of this group [...]. Along with Av3k, the pair seem like locks to move on, and it's not a stretch to have strenx at the very top above Av3k.

The integral write-up can be found on ESFI World.

The preview of the IEM5 World Finals already started at ESFI World. For each day left until the beginning of the competition, they will review the chances of 3 competitors from SC2, CS and QL. The first part of this preview series is covering Quakelive with 3 duelers from Group B: Belarus Cypher, Sweden spart1e and United States of America czm.

Here is a short excerpt of Cypher's intro:
To put it simply, Alexey 'Cypher' Yanushevsky is one of the top three favorites to win the IEM 5 World Championships. Anyone not betting on Cypher to finish in the podium would need to in turn bet against a plethora of supporting evidence that says he won't disappoint.

Head yourself off to ESFI World for the real thing.

Strenx Post-IEM Europe Interview (44 comments)
Posted by Cyn1c @ 13:06 CST, 17 February 2011 - iMsg
France Kévin "strenx" Baéza sits down with Phil in this post-IEM European Finals interview and talks about his infamous match against Russia Cooller, his win over Belarus Cypher for the 3rd place, the upcoming IEM 5 World Championship Finals in Hanover along with his preparation for the same and his plans for 2011.

An excerpt:
I knew I can beat Cypher even if I had 1% chance to do so. He was disappointed because he lost to Av3k. But it's not really an excuse because I should be the most disappointed guy after what happened against Cooller. After our match he (Cypher) came to me and said I wasn't playing my best but at the World Finals, I'm going to play a lot better.

IEM5 QL Lets take a look shall we? (34 comments)
Posted by M05 @ 22:38 CST, 12 February 2011 - iMsg
Whilst sitting here organizing our trip and counting the sleeps until the IEM5 World Championships, anticipating thoughts are running through my head. As suspected in all of our heads that same iconic question. Who will be crowned the Quake Live World Champion?
Excerpt: Last years struggle over the doubtfulness that the games interest would once again become a 'starvation' for players has been answered. The liveliness of the game has grown a lot in the past year, and the decisions of those from 'ye old times' whose minds were once balanced between playing seriously or disappearing, have made their moves. With the exception of Italy one unfortunate soul, and arguably a few “invitation allocation decisions”, these World Championships contain, at this current time, the best Quake Live duelers the world has to offer.

IEM EC caption contest (10 comments)
Posted by Carmac @ 05:55 CST, 29 January 2011 - iMsg
With ESReality being the best website for photo captions, it might be interesting to some of the users here. The Intel Extreme Masters Facebook page has got a caption contest with a Razer Carcharias headset and three Razer Goliathus mousepads up for grabs.

All you need to do is pick out any photo from the ESL's gallery of the IEM European Championship finals in Kiev (all four days), add your caption and post it on the wall of the IEM Facebook page. The best entries will be awarded prizes.

The photos in the gallery were taken by Pawel Bownik, an artist photographer renowned for his series "Gamers". The gallery is worth browsing through even if you are not interested in the contest itself.

You've got time until Monday 23:59.
