DH: Guard, Demon, Last Qualifier! (53 comments)
Posted by pAX @ 05:06 CDT, 10 June 2010 - iMsg
With just over a week left to DreamHack Summer 2010 open its doors two players has been added to the startup list and the last online qualifier have just been announced. Since neither the winner or the runner up of ZOTAC #33 could attend the event, DreamHack is inviting both the winner Lithuania Guard and the runner up Belgium Dem0n of ZOTAC #34.

The last qualifier will be run by newly announced PlayDH website. The winner of a 16 player, single elimination tournament will not only win a spot at the Kaspersky QUAKE LIVE Championships. He will also win 5 000 SEK (~500 Euro). The winner must attend the event in order to receive the prize. Current invited and qualified players will not be allowed to participate.

Update: The qualification is now over, Sweden fox won. Demos are uploaded here and here

AUS QCON COMP TO BE CANCELLED? THANKS ID (190 comments)
Posted by M05 @ 08:55 CDT, 8 June 2010 - iMsg
For the past two weeks the Oceanic servers have been reduced from 4 locational hosts, to the now barely playable 1. This majorly affected our recent LAN competition on the weekend and will mean no Quakecon tournament for our Oceanic players if they are not put back up in time.

We have contacted our local server providers some of which said they were upgrading their servers (a week and a bit ago), but have contacted id Software a few times now to tell them the servers are ready to go back up. id Software's SyncError has attempted to be contacted via IRC on a few occasions and we do understand he is a very busy person and obviously under a lot of scrutiny due to the mass amounts of people trying to contact him and the lack of responses he's been able to give.

In all respect I would like to give the guy a break but this is too important for an entire continent to run a competition to send a player to their own American LAN tournament is becoming somewhat of a joke.

Important or not all Oceania and 4Seasons Gaming have done is promote the game as best we can, and as much as we may sound like whiners some of you hopefully agree we do not deserve for this kind of problems to be ignored.

Today fazz beat mAdix with 3-1 in maps. Both players will represent Sweden in ESWC Grand Finals in Paris this summer. fazz will get his license, travel and hotel paid. mAdix earned his license fee but has to finance travel and hotel by himself.

To sign up for this qualifier, send an email to quake@eswcsweden.se or contact Dronar on IRC.

ESWC Frag movie competition (61 comments)
Posted by xou @ 13:05 CDT, 31 May 2010 - iMsg
If you feel like the last fatal1ty frag movie contest let you down, there might be another chance for you to win something out of a frag movie. The news is not exactly fresh, but nobody cared enough to post it on ESR already. Here is the thing: ESWC and Allo ciné (French website) are organizing a "Frag movie Festival". In clear terms that's a frag movie making contest, and that one is to be rewarded with $5,000 for the winner.
"You can submit your link by June 10th at contact@eswc.com. Then the ESWC organizing committee and Allo cine will choose the 10 best Frag Movies.
Everybody can vote for the best frag movie from June 11th to June 30th through the eswc.com or allocine.com, the winner will be known on July 4th at the World Game Show and will get back home with the $ 5,000 reward."
