TEK-9.org rounds up all the action from a top quality weekend of QuakeLive action at Dreamhack. Maciej "av3k" Krzykowski was the eventual champion but what does this mean given the absence of Shane "rapha" Hendrixson? Who's been improving and who's getting left behind in Europe and North America? Here we look at these questions and more in the Dreamhack Winter final round up.

You can read the full round up here on TEK-9.org.

dkt: "My goal is always to win" (155 comments)
Posted by swine @ 14:10 CST, 24 November 2009 - iMsg
An American trio of Quake players will participate at the Quake Live tournament at the DreamHack Winter event. One of them is Brian "dkt" Flander, who managed to show a good offline performance at the QuakeCon 2009. Fragster.de spoke with him about the IEM American Finals, the upcoming DreamHack and the American Quake scene.
Who will be the toughest opponent in Jönköping?
dkt: Probably Cypher. He is a great player. He has very solid aim and positioning and his mental game is underrated. There are many European players who are very good. I think Cooller will be better at this tournament than he was in Dubai and I think fox/DaHanG will also be very good

Spart1e, who managed to beat you twice at QuakeCon, is also attending at DreamHack. Can you take him down this time in his home country just like he did to you?
dkt: Hopefully, he is a very good player, but I feel I'm better than I was at QuakeCon. I don't know how much he has practiced or anything, but it would be fun to play against him again.

ESWC RETURNS (206 comments)
Posted by dfb @ 05:36 CST, 24 November 2009 - iMsg
Games-Services, the original company behind the ESWC, filled for bankruptcy several months ago. In the aftermath of this, Stéphane Cosse, the head of DIP Communication and DIP Organisation (An event organiser), has purchased the rights to the ESWC brand, trademark and tournament management system for €50,000 and cyberleagues.fr for €1,500.

The ESWC has now unveiled their plans for the summer of 2010 with a new $200,000 dollar e-Sports event taking place in Disneyland Paris from June 30 to July 4, 2010.

However, according to SK-gaming Cosse was a lead figure in Adéclik who ran a $50,000 event called ClickArena back in 2003 where in similar circumstances to the CyberXGames the prize money turned out to be a hoax and no team received a penny. Perhaps in light of this the ESWC has made a further announcement:
"in order to prevent more harm and damage to the ESWC image and to maintain coherent the ESWC project and spirit, DIP-Organisation is studying the possibilities to found a way to compensate the last ESWC champions."
