Pre-ESWC Interview with DKT519 (19 comments)
Posted by clan519 @ 23:33 CDT, 3 July 2008 - iMsg
I sat down with (chatted up on IRC) the legendary Brian "DKT519" Flander of former UT and CS fame, and asked a few key questions about the chances of the American hopefuls at ESWC Masters and what his thoughts were on the preparation of the US players vs the Euros. Please read on for your All-American vantage point on this weekends action.

clan519: Hi Brian and thanks for your time tonight. Lets jump right into the heart of the matter and get your opinions on the US players heading into Masters.. How do you think the Americans will fare at ESWC, and why?

Destrukt: I think rapha and zero4 both have a very decent shot to win the entire event. They both have extremely smart play styles and they can adjust to any other playstyle on the fly. Chance is more aggressive and will take more risks, but if he hits his shots, he is extremely hard to beat.

clan519: What about czm?

p.s. ESR readers, thank you for not plussing me like it's going out of style. Let's keep this ESWC buzz real. Really.

Interviews from Swedish ESWC qualifier (154 comments)
Posted by g0d-trito @ 20:22 CDT, 30 June 2008 - iMsg
I grabbed my camera and went to DreamHack where the Swedish Quake 3 ESWC qualifier took place. I did some video interviews with the Quake players and you can watch them by following the links below.

Interview with Prozac - Go here for the video
Prozac has been away from the scene for a while. In the interview he explains what he has been doing these last years. He also talks about his games against the new school players Arrw and Spartie. You will also find out why he doesn't think practicing with fox is the best way to prepare for a tournament.

Interview with fooKi - Go here for the video
fooKie is talking about why he is going back and forward from inactive to active and back again. He is also talking about his preparation for DreamHack. He also thinks the Swedish players might have an advantage when playing in the ESWC Masters in Paris.

Interview with Arrw - Go here for the video
Arrw didn't want to play his brother Z4muZ when he was younger since he got raped all the time. Nowadays the tables pretty much have turned.

Interview with Spartie- Go here for the video
When all the other gamers started playing Quake 4 Spartie stayed with Quake 3. In the interview he is talking about how actively he was playing Quake 3 during this time.

* Update * If there are any QuakeWorld fans out there you can watch the interview with Locktar, the winner of the QuakeWorld tournament.

QUAKE NATIONS CUP WINNERS (9 comments)
Posted by Legie @ 05:43 CDT, 25 June 2008 - iMsg
On January 21 Quake.cz crew started Nations Cup for all series of Quake. The idea was perfect, but realization wasn't. Before the tournament started, we faced our first problem which was "Who will actually admin the tournament?". The problem was solved pretty quickly (thanks to the activity of Czech admins) and for each quake serie we picked admins as follows:

QuakeWorld was admined by famous Czech player and admin Czech Republic Johnny_cz, who flawlessly took care of QuakeWorld.
Quake 2 was held by server q2scene.net and Nations DeathMatch League and this was admined by Slovak player Slovakia wision.
Quake 3 admined by me (Czech Republic Legie) since noone wanted to admin 24 teams and I had lot of free time, I took the position of the head admin.
Quake 4 was Czech Republic Hawr1x's job even thought that in the end he didn't have too much work with it.

Tournament started in late January and ended yesterday 23.6.2008. Here are the final standings:

QuakeWorld:

1. Finland Finland
2. Netherlands Netherlands
3. Sweden Sweden

Quake 2:

1. Finland Finland
2. Sweden Sweden
3. Poland Poland

Quake 3:
1. Sweden Sweden
2. Poland Poland
3. Czech Republic Czech republic

Quake 4:

Quake 4 Nations Cup was cancelled due to inactivity of all players. The only team which was willing to play was team Sweden Sweden and we really appreciate their activity.

I would like to thank to all admins of this tournament who helped to realize the idea of battle between European countries. Next, I'd like to thank Czech Republic eJo for his great work with GTV and demo recording. To Czech Republic shebin who provided the GTV and partial admining and also to polish players Poland Thrawn and Poland mov9k who were substituting me.

There were 28 countries signed to the Nations Cup and all together there was 67 teams in all Quake series where total number of players was about 480.

One more thing.. Czech player and moviemaker Czech Republic silu is working on a fragmovie from Quake 3 tournament, so stay tuned!

Final Standings

These are the four remaining players for the lan finals in the Antwerp Esports Festival held at 25-26-27 of july.

It was a shame only six players showed up after all the effort me and the other people from gamelux made of it. But I was very pleased with the six people who showed up did the best they could to secure these four spots for the lan finals.

Vo0 going to ESWC Grand Finals (208 comments)
Posted by Ins0mnia @ 01:34 CDT, 13 June 2008 - iMsg
Last weekend the Dutch ESWC qualifier in Quake 3 Arena has been played. With an exciting finale from Sander "Vo0" Kaasjager versus Lemmy "If-22" de Groot, in which IF-22 came out as the superior player.

How ever, the ESWC was so thrilled about the final, they decided that Vo0 should also be given a chance to ESWC USA. So there for they given the second spot also a ticket for the grand finales. Even thought Vo0 has to pay up his own trip.

Ofcourse not everybody is happy with this, because Ivo 'Forever' Lindhout states on GameLux that this is just not a fair way to distribute prizes. (The news hub of WSquared). How ever Forever did not attent the event. Because he didn't know there was a second prize.

Here is a part translated, quoted and cutted from what he had to say:

As since we of ESreality do care about our users and their public opinion. We have also made a poll about it. You can just vote here.
