Quakecon 2006 - ReDeYe Pics (10 comments)
Posted by ReDeYe @ 06:39 CDT, 11 August 2006 - iMsg
Another year and another Qcon gallery. This years gallery is a little smaller than normal as I didnt take as many pics this time round. This was mainly due to having two roles at the event, both for iTG and working for a TV company on a documentary at the same time.

Never the less, I thought it would be nice if I at least put up these shots.

CPL chooses CPMA VQ3! (508 comments)
Posted by ini @ 14:10 CDT, 26 July 2006 - iMsg
The CPL announced today that it will feature the Challenge ProMode Arena (CPMA) with VQ3 gameplay, during the Quake 3 tournaments of the 2006 World Season. CPMA includes such features as MultiView demos, improved netcode and improved gameplay physics.

The CPL has established an ongoing relationship with the CPMA developers, to maintain constant support and add additional enhancements deemed necessary by the league and its competitors.
"We are happy that CPL is providing the best possible environment for Quake 3 competitions. Aside from the immediate benefits to the players thanks to CPMA's advanced featureset, we'll be improving the spectator experience by adding VQ3 support to our MultiView GTV and demo technology," said Kevin Blenkinsopp ("arQon") project lead for CPMA.

The CPL World Season will culminate at the 2006 Championship Finals, which will take place Wednesday, December 13 to Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the landmark Hyatt Regency hotel in downtown Dallas.

Online registration for the finals will launch August 1st and will offer only 128 spots for the Quake 3 tournament. The $30 registration fee will also include a BYOC spot. The top 32 finalists will share a total purse of $50,000.

The CPL Chooses Quake 3 (1169 comments)
Posted by Nicky @ 12:18 CDT, 20 July 2006 - iMsg
The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) announced today that it will use id Software's Quake 3 as the primary featured one-versus-one game for the soon to be announced CPL 2006 World Season.

This decision was made after the following votes were submitted:

The CPL tournament staff - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL world partners - 90% in favor of Quake 3
The CPL 1v1 committee - 85% in favor of Quake 3
The gamers (that voted on the CPL poll) - 80% in favor of Quake 3

The decision to host Quake 3 competitions was made based on existing features in Quake 3 that will enable the CPL to focus on providing the best tournament experience for both competitors and spectators.

This decision should not be regarded as critical towards id software or Raven, but should be considered a compliment of how well Quake 3 has withstood the test of time. The CPL will continue to provide feedback to id software on Quake 4, to help improve its tournament features until such point as the community feels that the game has the necessary features to replace Quake 3.

With almost 80% of the poll voting being cast for the return of Quake 3, the community of gamers and the competitors spoke out regarding which game they preferred to be playing during the 2006 World Season. The players have cited gameplay, GTV, and the large user base as reasons for their choice.

The CPL has chosen to feature during the CPL 2006 World Season the two games that are widely regarded as the best tournament games of all time: Counter Strike 1.6 and Quake 3. The 2006 World Season will conclude at The CPL Winter Final Championships, taking place Wednesday, December 13, to Sunday, December 17, 2006 at the landmark Hyatt Regency in Downtown, Dallas, Texas.

The website and online registration for the Winter Finals are expected to be launched on Tuesday, August 1, 2006.

OMG! I fixed my camera.

Not really.

It takes blurry pictures without the flash on, and I'm not allowed to use flash in the tournament area!

ESWC 06 Gallery by Ms.X (7 comments)

Various crazy photos taken from ESWC 2006 in Paris. The event was held at Bercy this year, which was quite an amazing venue...due to camera problems there's not many photos from the event itself, but more of the player's hotel and party. :) Many of the pics in this gallery also include Taiwan partyboy, a very special guest and at times thought to be an "unofficial mascot."

This is just a preview of photos, you can view the full gallery here.

voodoochopstiks pictures of the ESWC 2006 Swedish Qualifier. Sadly, lighting conditions inside Gamers Paradise(certaintly not a photographer's :D) were quite hard to work with, very dark or very green usually, or both at the same time. Leads to some blurry pictures, I hope you forgive me. This is my first gallery, and Sujoy apparently made me admin just for saying I was going to post pics later :D. Anyway, I had a very nice time there, and I hope you enjoy the pics.
