I think all these comments just show the difference between America and western Europe. In America something like 90% of people are religious (theistic) in some way, so if you make fun of a religious person as an American you're considered an asshole simply because of the consensus of belief being against you (regardless of the logic behind the consensus). Americans being open about their religion is part of the culture, and it's laughable in western Europe.

They are not forced, however, to express belief that dinosaurs lived alongside human beings (which is what Palin believes, literally), or that God guides foreign policy decisions (Bush thinks God told him to go to war, Palin is even more extreme in this respect, literally believing in the rapture, etc.). I was a little shocked to hear the intro when he mentioned 'The Lord'. At first it was a bad shock, but then I realized it was a good shock.

We've seen interviews and small bits of Rapha for the past year or so, maybe less. In everything he's said, all interviews, etc, he's NEVER mentioned religion, EVER.

This kind of interview (the longer ones that Carmac do that are extremely in depth) allows for something like that to be said. He's never said "I beat Jib because the Lord helped me" in ANY interview.

Do you know how many different languages the Bible is in? Do you know that not only are they in different languages, but the translations end up with different word use? For instance, in Greek, there are six words for love (sexual, brotherly, parental, friendship, etc.). You can look across the spectrum of all the Bibles out there and get different interpretations. For the most part, they carry the same message, but there is a MASSIVE difference in practices and beliefs, ESPECIALLY when it comes down to what different denominations do during their services. And a lot of times, the ministers/pastors/fathers put their own perspective on the scripture.

So you have THREE levels of interpretation/perspective going on, perhaps even FOUR.

You have the LANGUAGE (what language it is in).
You have the TRANSLATOR VERSION (King James, Gideon, etc.)
You have the PRACTICING INTERPRETATION (church's/pastor's/minister's/father's perspective)
Your OWN PERSPECTIVE on how the scriptures affect you.

For instance, one person may be more "moved" and "impassioned" by certain scriptures which they hold more sacred than others.
