It was on this day back in 1999 that id Software announced the "gold" status of Quake III Arena, which meant that the game had passed testing and was considered complete and ready for replication and retail distribution. In other words, the game was done and soon to be in our hands! That was nine years ago and this game has refused to lie down for anyone, just like the Quakes before it. Quake III is still being used for competition, it’s still being expanded by the creative community and is still played daily by a whole lot of folks, including yours truly. So on this day I'd like to wish Quake III Arena a very happy birthday indeed!
