I didn't wait to play Doom, I was about 7 and I'd never even heard of Doom. The first time I heard or saw Doom was in an Escom store when my parents were looking to buy a new PC (P75!) and they had the shareware version running (And the guy gave us the disc).

I barely even used the PC at that point and since my parents didn't play games I basically had no exposure to them at all.

and some time later the first games i played at home on a pc:
the original sim city on a monochrome (black&white) display on my 2x86

and block out (some sort of 3d tetris if anyone remembers it)

and sth called "tunnels" - kind of a 3d first person thing where you commanded your "spaceship" through a wireframe tunnel and had to avoid obstacles and shoot some sort of doors and shit - can't find any screenshots for that

hehe, i played that to death as well. man can't remember what i started on, pretty much played every amiga 500+ game there was from the age of 2-3, was my brothers amiga. used to watch him play all the lucas arts adventure games as well, good times..

notable game series that noones mentioned yet: quest for glory series - really really good.

My first was Leisure Suit Larry, followed by Duke Nukem I'm quite sure, then came Wolf3d or Doom. On my uncles old as fuck 486, I still remember using dos when I was little.

After that I remember playing Flashback on my mums original macintosh followed by Tie Fighter and Dark Forces.

The latter just mentioned being perhaps my favorite game of all time.

*btw, lol, at the time I had no idea what leisure suit larry was about. I have vivid memories however of being beaten to a pulp in the dark alley if you didn't pay off the pimp or something. Then waking up in the lab being rebuilt.

I also remember getting into the hottub at the chicks apartment being one of the endings of a mission. Awesome game, pimpin hoes :D

I loved Dark Forces and X-Wing (never played the sequel, Tie Fighter, though).
So much win.

Dark Forces was one of the first games to have true up/down look, rather than the Doom one style of having the illusion of up and down.

oh yea, dark forces was $$$. such a rock solid feel in the game I don't think I've seen since.

I also remember playing a futuristic driving game on my uncles pc. It was on these mad as fuck tracks with loops and insane vertical drops etc. You could choose different characters/vechiles each with their own stats and what not. Was alot of fun, anyone know what I'm talking about?

I remember my brother having old Atari Cassette (you had to wait plenty of minutes and when someone entered his room it was like: "DON'T MOVE!!!"). There was some black&white game (or maybe TV was broken :D). It was a very simple game, a round character who looked a bit like PacMan... You had to collect keys to open doors etc. (it definitely wasn't Montezuma).

My cousins had 'better' Atari (with FDD drive) and I remember playing Giana Sisters a lot, as well as Golden Axe and Lotus (there was also some game where you could use some kind of transformers).

Then... my brother bought his first PC :) I remember some awesome platform game, however I could never find its title :( (I called it "rocket man" but it wasn't its official name). And I think that the first PC game that really amazed me was... Wolfenestein 3D :) (then HoM&M, DN 3D, Destruction Derby, Mortal Combat, Warcraft 1 &2 and a lot of other, awesome games).

Hard to remember back that far!

My first PC was a 286 with about 20mb harddrive space (doubledisk) and 640kb ram. ZZT is probably the first game I can remember playing that I can still remember the name of. Most of the first CGA games that came out weren't exactly memorable.

i'm pretty sure i eventually managed to beat the corvette driving King and got his car.. i remember it was ridiculously fast and you really had to steer well or you'd find yourself bloody, halfway inside a tree next to the road..

The first one I can remember is "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" (the action game) which came with my A500 quickstart pack, then probably Turrican once we started to get games in.

one of the best was like this: you had about 4/5 tanks with rotating cannons on each side of the screen (split in the middle for 2 players) and there were some oil towers, barrels you had to shoot with them and got points for it.. id like to find out what it was :/

It's a freaking awesome game and basically the game that made me realise that multiplayer is far superior to singleplayer. Never really played singleplayer games after Goal!

Yeah I played those, never really liked the lack of dribble control though. Goal! allowed you to have the right amount of control without the ball clinging to your feet. In case people have forgotten: In Goal! you pass the ball by holding the firebutton+release and when tapping the button you shoot on goal/make a long pass (the exact opposite of Sensible Soccer). However, you could hold the button to slow down/gain ball control, and when you released fire you could hold the joystick in neutral position and you wouldn't pass the ball, instead you could keep dribling. This meant that skilled players could drible using the technique: Hold fire, change direction, neutral, release fire, move in the new direction.

If it had to pick a flaw in Goal! it was the ridiculous neverending headers to yourself that you could make. Sometimes a defender could run the entire length of the field heading the ball. This was very easy to counter for skilled players, but quite difficult to stop for newbs. And it should never have been possible anyway.

Pong ofc, the dad of a friend traveled to USA when i was like 5 years old, i can remembr that moment perfectly. When i controlled what was happening on the screen, i instantly felt in <3.

it was a absolutely fantastic game, where you had to develop your hostels by bying new pools and stuff for the clients and then you had taxes on it. No graphics interface tho only a text display with a choice of actions useable by typing numbers on the keyboard. I think this game will stay in my memory like one of the best game i ever played.
If anyway can remenber the name, ill send him 20 euros.
