they arent a wreck, they are selling for 6k because nobody wants them because they are so expensive to run, look at any category of car and you will find the highest litres coming out with the lowest milage and cheapest price.

Even with the economy in shambles, there's no way you can find an impreza in any kind of good condition for 6k.

can i suggest a skoda fabira vrs diesel. get it chipped and it is very fuel efficient and roughly the same speed as a 3.2 litre bmw 5

Golf GT TDI 150 - performance and economy
Audi A4 Convertible - Expensive to run unless I get a TDI, i am willing to push to 10k if i find 1 with nice colour and milage ( very unlikely seen 1 or 2)
BMW 318i nice looking but MPG and performance is lack luster.
Astra VXR considered not sure

if you are looking both at the golf and the A4 you should really consider an A3, especially if you are looking for a good mileage. A3 mileages It's a German site but I think everything should be fairly obvious.

ps.#2 but dont buy crapy f*cked bmw - look for ~150 000 km , not 350 000 km. coz repair bmw is expencive! buuut if you will take good one, you wont need to think about repairing, bmw`s are not bad cars as you know.
