I think they already did remove some if not the most. There are basicaly 2 hosts for polish servers. I use most popular polish isp that is used by majority of players, and on one host I got pings like 100 (packets are going out to germany first and then back), on second one its fine around 25. However the good host's servers are dissapearing, and majority are lagged ones, not to mention it feels like numbers dropped greatly.

I think that first "polish" ql servers were actualy hosted in Sweden, so expect "russian" ones (if any) to be in Canada :P

Why did id software only ban festival's accounts, after bloodpaint talked to them? It seems like they knew that this festival guy was cheating but didn't do anything about it.
Also, id should publish a list with accounts that were banned for cheating. Cheaters should be made public, so nobody wants to play with them anymore (when they get a new account.

Because only Festival was cheating with a wallhack. Other than that, their contraventions were Blanka playing for 1o1/Festival (Blanka is the far superior player) and using voice communication in league matches.

Correction! Exploits are vulnerabilities that exist in a game already and are discovered by players to use them to their advantage. In this situation however, no known vulnerability was used but rather a dedicated wallhack program was used to see through the walls.

This is the reason why people tend to get more offended because someone went out of their way to cheat and win.

That's not exactly true, there's an italian ISP that shares the same public ip address for 1000+ users in the same area (while everyone has a different private ip), so i think it could be the same there. I'm not saying he's telling the truth, but it just could be possible.

Im using most popular polish isp, and I can change my ip how often I want. Just one click to reconnect pppoe connection, and I think it even forces you to change it every 24h (at least it did in past).
However from how he sounds it seems like he simply doesnt own a specific public ip (and uses shared), which isnt anything special either.

Though Sweden has one of the largest Quake communities, I can't recall any Swede ever getting caught cheating, yet the Poles, Russians, Spaniards and Americans get caught left and right. The same goes for doping in sports as well.

It's probably best to just ban those countries from of all leagues. The mentality - Cheat or get caught trying - is too sad :(

like 7 months ago i played blanka in semifinal of euro cup ql.cz...he absolutely didnt want to play without 1o1 and there werent any devs to make him leave..so i played him that way and 2 days later i heard from bodzo that lost vs him too that they were using voice comunication during this matches...

This is why we need strong authentication in online games. Multi account players should also be discouraged. Its obviously the whole politic about cheaters has to change, its getting boring to see so many lower life forms being majored as is they were something special. Theyre not. They just stink like rotten meat.

There is: ESL Player Card. With ability to have every amount of QL accounts, this looks like really great solution. But all tournaments must start to set rule: only verified players allowed !

FYI, Quake Live's Terms of Service only allow 2 accounts per person. However I doubt it is actually enforced.

It's sad to read all those comments here for me, but I see definitely that news about cheating are most popular and people LOVE to thrash-talk about it. It reminds me news in TV where it's always about crimes, disasters, death and other shit including politics. I fucking hate that!

I feel ashamed by things done by this "Golden Three" guys and the whole polish quake community does it too. Those guys were disliked from the very beginnig in our scene and there was nothing to do with that. That's not our fault that guys like that were born in our country and we really don't know how to convert them to another nation, but what you all are missing here is that we DON'T HIDE it! We proved that by posting here on ESR almost every case of cheater catch.

You cannot generalize and everyone who does it seems to be immature because this is the thing you should be learned by life in childhood.

Comming back to merit of the case. I have feeling that Festival is not pure cheater and I belive that he don't use cheats like aimbot or wallhack constantly. I can even belive that he was just checked that once. I will not belive anyone of you telling me that you were never checking/searching for Quake3 cheats to check them out with bots just to see how they look like. It's normal human's curiosity, but it doesn't go straight to anything evil.

I blame them all for faking, voice communication abusing and probably cheating in some different ways like voice timers. Yeah, voice timers are the thing what I'm always afraid of when playing against former Quake2 players since I saw one of q2 pros config including binds for that and being common in community! (wasn't that PURRI's config?) I even spoke once with 1o1 and he told me that everyone is using voice timers in Q2 and it is considered as normal. Isn't that sick? Or is it lie?

Final thoughts.
- Ban for life for all true cheaters. They never changes!
- Carefully call players a cheater, every lawbreaker shall be judged and proven of crime.
- Don't be like domino following other's mind without checking how the first one was pushed.
- Don't generalize groups of people, no matter if it is nation, team or friends group. Every herd can have a black sheep.

About voice timers - yes, it's a common thing in Quake 2 :) Actually I don't know if there are any players who don't use it (except new players who maybe don't know about it yet), not many definitely. So it cannot be considered as cheat in Quake 2.

I also remember that someone from this trio tried to use those timers in Quake 4 (and, as far as I remember, he was successful) and some other Quake 2 players did it in one of the oldest wSw version as well (it was disabled quickly, though).

Well, there is always two sides to every story.. Quake 2 is quite old and honestly I doubt that players who've been playing it for years (and haven't tried any other game) would be keen on playing without it. One can say that it's very lame, on the other hand it enables players to focus on the other aspects of the game better.

Exactly! Regardless of how it was considered in Quake2 this is imho the worst cheat after aimbot in Quake3 / Quake Live. Duel in those games is all about timing and voice timers waste that dimension of competition. Knowing exact times of item's respawn gives much more than seeing enemy through the walls.

Why would I search for cheats, god damn, if I suck at a game I suck at it, if a fucking bot plays instead of me, I ain't really playing, wheres the fun in that.
If the better player defeats me, I might get pissed, but I certainly wont search for hacks to beat that player or call someone who is better at the game to play in my name, that's just retarded.
