c'mon, rapha was in form. Evil's win at dhw does mean something (although will definitely mean more if it happens again). Beating Cypher & Rapha on LAN is possibly the biggest achievement one can get in QL at the moment.

I don't mean to dimish his victory, I mean beating Rapha and Cypher no matter how they're playing is a huge achievement, but people are acting as if he's the new hero of quake/the next Rapha because he won a couple of online cups and a dreamhack (despite falling short at every other major tournament he has attended)

He's been consistantly placing in the top spots of online tournaments in the last 2 years. He's made top 3 - 3 times on LAN in 2012, one of them being first. This is totally off-topic to the fact he's been a top player for the last 10 years or so.

Evil is definitely one of the players an aspiring dueller can look up to.

That he's what these people say he is, my problem is with those touting him as the best because he won at dreamhack, I'm not trying to say that he's bad ,I'd say he's one of the best currently, but he has a long way to go before people can justifiably say that he is the best.

He is, he beat some of the best players ever all in one tournament, and he won it. He won dreamhack, that's huge. He's definitely my hero in quake at the moment and i'm sure he could do it again.

And Rapha wasn't playing anywhere near on form, nor was he playing that well. You shouldn't use his performance at dhw as a basis for comparison. If he had beaten a Quakecon 2011-level Rapha then sure, you might be able to speculate because that would be a huge upset, but he didn't.

I remember at least 3 times in which rapha had mouse and other problems in semis or grand finals. It's not that he is the king of excuses or something but him simply having hardware or config issues, and the last dh was no exception.

Though in the latter it was him fucking up really. Who doesn't bring their cfg to the event rofl, therefore his fault.

IIRC the update that introduced the timestamps was release one or two weeks before the IEM European championships that took place at the ESL studios. Since it was new and the jury was still out on whether it takes away too much from the game the timestamps were not allowed there.

It's the only time I remember them not being allowed and I could be wrong with the excact event but I'm pretty sure it was an IEM.

Hes a great player, but it feels like the majority of the time rapha loses he has some excuse about mouse/config issues.

Players never look good when they are losing, its a total tautology; he's "on form" when he wins and he wins when he's "on form".

Evil raised his level of play a LOT! Stupid fanboys of Rapha in this thread tend to forget this. It is possible that Rapha was not in his best form but please Evil played fucking awesome. One of the best ql performances i have ever seen.

the only thing that Evil raised a lot compared to his precedent version is the aim, lowering his sens to the point you have to be good just to be able to move around properly; this kind of sensitivity also isn't much affected on lan, compared to the higher ones.

How can he make these close range LG fights and chase people with LG with sens 2 accel 0? If I try these settings on my WMO its unplayable.

Evil uses kinzu which has built-in accel (cypher told me it's like .1 accel in quake) and 400dpi which in reality is actually around 560 dpi for the kinzu. So what he really uses is around sens 3.22 and .1 accel (don't forget he also uses 100fov). I'm more curious as to what the accel curve looks like for the kinzu considering strenx owned with it too and could never get used to the abysuss even when trying different accel values. There seems to be something special about the kinzu and considering the fact that they won't be in the market forever we should probably find a way to replicate the kinzu feel.

But why would you even want to have built in accel? what if you don't want any accel? seems inconvenient and unaccurate

there's something called preference

you can build your own win accel curve (at least with XP) . there is also this program, "maccel" or something.

but it is best to get used to non-broken movement. yes you can get used to kinzu as you can get used to almost any shit as long as it is consistent, but it's stupid. better use a mouse with flawless motion and you can exchange between them easily.
