That's not true - the entire purpose of political science (and its various branches) is to apply the scientific method to politics. Of course, you often have to wait quite some time to be able to properly study certain events/decisions (for example in order to consult documents that eventually become declassified), but the scientific production of the discipline is very rich.

I couldn't care less about this so called media influence but it's a fine line between conspiritards and pompous media.

The United States is too big to be effectively governed.

Third party candidates are ignored by and large by the media or the ones that speak against the status quo are treated like fringe candidates. Each state in the Union has fucked up rules to get 3rd party candidates on the ballot. (some require 100,000+ signatures to get on ballot, other require you to raise a certain amount of money)

ANd you basically have to be a multicillionare to run for president. All this added by the fact the just about all the ex confederate states will vote for a politican if they are religious/war hawk shows the system is beyond any sort of reform.
