I was talking to cas about Prague and how we were planning a neu team, with 2 others instead of me and noctis. However, he was thinking about playing with 102 since he prefers a 100% Russian team and people he knows. As a joke I said those comments because of this. I have nothing against 102 players, since I havent met any of them or know anything about them whatsoever. Theres the background, dont believe me, ask cas. Sorry if I pissed anyone off - wasnt my intention.

I think crowdfunding applied to quake is interesting, especially in the form where if the quota is not reached, nobody spends a penny. I find it confusing to mix it with paypal, since that is a donation, no matter what.

So how much does he need, when does he need it by at the latest, how much has been raised so far? can a proper kickstarter be set up with a goal and then if its not hit then people get their money back. Or people donate and if its not enough then it goes to 102 to help get their guys to DHW.

1. There is a set goal. Everyone see the progress towards the goal.

2. If the goal isn't met, backers don't actually pay the money.

3. Usually there are some mini-incentives to back your project (pledge $10 to have your name in news item on team102.ru. Pledge $25 to have your name said by evil himself on deliberatemurder stream. Pledge $50 to get a vertical shaft lesson from evil. Etc.)

4. There are actual stretch goals (gather $1000 - evil for QC, gather $2000 - evil for QC and DHW, $4000 - ash joins evil etc.)


In here all I see is "give us as much money as you can, we will do something with it". This has no properties of a successful crowd funding campaign. Please fix.

Someone who runs the quake at DHW should think about setting up a kickstarter so theres a big prize pool on offer, plus the groups you mentioned getting together and putting whatever funds they can gather between themselves.

Turn DHW quakelive into a big event that people won't want to miss/be a part of.

Well, last Dreamhack had 2 streams, one on-site, and a secondary online. So how about ddk/Zoot/ins on-site, Dis/vor/nvc online, Trance used as a background guy, and Alexey A's money added to the prize pool, with the community watching the shit out of both streams so viewer numbers reach 10k.

so basically evil gets a paid trip in any way and gets 1k$ less if he wins anything which has a huuuge probability since the prize distribution is for top4:
First Place: $9,000 -> 8k$ for evil
Second Place: $5,000 -> 4k$ for evil
Third Place: $3,000 -> 2k$ for evil
Fourth Place: $1,000 -> free trip for evil in case he's 4th
Winz doesn't risk much this way since beating 1-2 good americans in double elimination bracket should be very doable for evil, but still a great move of him to give the money

Instead of begging the community for Money you could attempt to sell merchendise through various free services. It would be something more tangible then blindly giving Money away.it could also open up doors to actually make this a viable business endevour.

Well.... I'm fairly sure that quake is still pretty doable for sponsors. Because although the scene is smaller than say LoL you only have to send 1 person. Which is a lot cheaper than sending a team.

So although exposure is less you also have less expenses.

rate of return is also smaller, so sponsors are less willing to spend money on ql
