a 4790k is way, way, way more than enough to stream 720p at 60 fps. even my oc'd 2500k can stream 720p 120 fps locked at 250 in-game without issue. you're doing it wrong, bro.

what kind of lag? sounds like you're using a bad twitch server or you're being throttled or something.

Just capture the game window, game capture doesn't play nice with QL neither in OBS or Xsplit.

I bought a 3770k for the specific purpose of streaming and your 4790k scores better in benchmarks. You're either stretching other options too far for quality or there's something terribly wrong with drivers or something.

When i capture the game window and go fullscreen, the capture goes black. Windowed mode feels input laggy.

Capture the desktop, not the window and go full screen. I don't know if that works. I capture QL windowed mode.

With the latest versions the only problem I've had with OBS and game capture, is that anything that causes the Awaiting Gamestate... window freezes the stream.

alt+enter twice fixes it immediately, it's just annoying that you have to do it every map change.

Quakecon was the first time I played that map without fps drops, my 3570k 560ti 16gb system can't run it completely stable even.

I actually bought that rig in september, which also allowed me to play csgo above my initial 30 fps.

Try streaming in 540p 1100kbit with preset set to fast or faster.

If your CPU can handle it you shouldnt be getting as much warpyness.

There are also some settings in OBS that can relieve the network impact from streaming, though these dont allways work.

automatic low latency mode in advanced

nvenc uses the built in h264 encoder on your graphics card and results in zero performance hit, making your relatively weak cpu irrelevant. it is not as efficient as cpu encoding, but it shouldn't matter with 3500 kbps bitrate at 720p. these settings should work perfectly.

Try the steam stream thing, heard its much less of a resource hog than the common stream apps.

Steam broadcasting is horrible right now, which is fine because it just released into beta. You can only stream at 720p and 30 fps, and the gameplay becomes incredibly laggy when streaming. Won't be going back until they fix that and other problems.

Well, exodus was kind enough to sit with me on facebook and go through my stress tests this afternoon and we finally got to a fine balance I guess, no buffer, no massive fps drops in a stacked 16 players ffa small map... Thanks to him ;).

For those interested I'm using only one monitor (CRT 120hz 1024*768) and I got these settings: 2000/2000 as bitrate (anything higher would get the stream to buffer at some point), FPS 38, 512p.

you can do much better than that...

Set the "x264 CPU preset" to ultrafast or superfast. The slower this goes, the more taxing on the CPU, but the better the quality.

I also don't understand 512p? Is that 16:9 and/or custom? You can always just stream 4:3 1024*768 (your native res so there's no scaling to be calculated) or 768*576 (PAL video), which is the nearest to "512p".

You can also comfortably drop to 1800 bitrate without losing too much quality.

Also worth mentioning, if you're doing 2000 bitrate (per second) at 30 FPS or 2000 bitrate at 60 FPS. The more frames that fall in that second, the less time you have to encode them because you're doing more frames at the same bitrate per second. I'd just settle for 30 honestly if you can't reach 45.

he has 5 mbps up and a maxwell card. there's absolutely no reason why he can't or shouldn't stream 60 fps 720p 3500 kbps using nvenc.

He's clearly having issues that made him resort to the settings he found with Exodus. I'm only suggesting some changes that relief the CPU a bit more without tampering with the quality he already has going.

Sure he could use NVENC, but my GPU doesn't have it so I can't really speak for it and I would have guessed he already tried it? Definitely a route to check, I have QuickSync and it's pretty good.

it sounds like he has no idea what he's doing and the person helping him doesn't sound like he knows much better either. i doubt he tried nvenc. if he did, this thread wouldn't exist and he would already be streaming.

I'd put it to 30 frames just so you can increase quality elsewhere. Those 8 frames are a bit weird, but more is better of course if everything else is pretty much optimized.

720P, 60FPS, 2500kbps,,, don't use anymore bitrate or else you'll get the lags. Your stream wont suffer for quality trust me.

Do you have QoS set up in your router to prioritize QL's packets? I wonder if it could help with higher bitrates.

I know very little but from what I've read the upload speed might be a bit low for a good quality stream. I'll let the more informed/cultured people take this over though.

I have the same upload (roughly) and I managed to do 240 and 360p decently, started to choke at 480p. i mean it's not ideal but at least it's something. tbh i'd be more worried about your graphics card :/

cpu isn't enough (cypher has the same and his first attempts weren't good, impacting in-game performances until titan paid him a capture card), gfx card can't encode, you're done

got i5 with 8gb en gtx760 and streams flawless, 12bots on toxicity still 250fps

i only tested OBS for recording ingame footage(since shadowplay doesn't work with QL[without special opengl32.dll, but then only without post processing]), and i had to change the NVENC codec to NVdefault instead of automatic, to make it work properly.

im gonna go with the unrelated probably.
Make sure you have a good router, with QoS configured propertly so you can assign independent bandwidth to the stream and the game itself.
With my old router when i was playing and someone googled a fking word y lagged 400ping+.
With my new router nicely configured y can now have bittorrent running at 700KB/s and games run smooth as silk.
I always had 10mbps in both scenarios.

So long story short, dont underestimate network config/adapters

I've got several years of experience under my belt with both Xsplit and OBS and I've got some great tips for you and anyone else wanting to stream quake live from the same PC they play it from, without any input lag or video lag/FPS drops. For confirmation see: twitch.tv/teamXIM

Step one: Get a capture card. You can probably find a decent one for $100.

Step two: Run an hdmi cable from your video card to your capture card. This will make your PC think it's a monitor.

Step four: In OBS select 'Add Video Capture Device' in the sources list. This is where you can add your capture card.

You're done! This eliminates any video lag (non-bandwidth related) that is imposed upon your monitor and gameplay. The lag originates from the streaming programs such as xsplit, OBS, and Steam 'hooking' into the game to grab the video.

This bypasses the hooking process. You're getting video directly from your video card.

Pro tip: Use NVEnc in OBS to encode, since you've got a compatible video card. This takes the encoding stress off of your CPU and is handled by the video card instead (it's much more suited than your CPU).

Alternatively, you can get a capture card that does ALL the encoding itself, and you've got nothing else to worry about.

If/when you look for a capture card, make sure it can capture the resolution you want at the right fps you want.

The one I use, I purchased a few years ago and can only do 1080p @ 25fps and 720p @ 60fps

Let me tell you in advance that the hardware encoding of the Avermedia Live Gamer HD is shit.

The problem with this is you limit your monitor to use 60hz. Its doable to fool the nvidia driver to make the primary monitor run 120hz anyway, but then you have to first duplicate the capture card with the primary monitor in the nvidia setting, and then change to 120hz in windows monitor setting. Thats the only way I got it to work anyway. There wont be any input lag, but it might add some tearing compared to gamecapture.
