It seems like it's going to be more towards Brutal Doom than Classic Doom sadly, although that's hopefully still better than what it could have ended up being.
Its crazy they do so much stuff, i mean modelling, designing, rigging, etcetc all that stuff is A LOT of work, and one day they realize its shit and all that work to the trash bin? crazy
It will be streamed on twitch.tv/bethesda and there will probably be a video uploaded on YouTube as well. It hasn't happened yet. It's gonna be in something like 6 hours.
Finally, I was watching these, and that channel had more:
The singleplayer looks very disappointing (as far as one can tell from such a short clip). Looks very very slow, it almost hurts, and only a few enemies like in Rage.... I will be supersad if it will be like that again:(
The multiplayer graphical appearance is also too techy and consol-ish to me, but visuals are not that important, so I could live with it (interesting but it looks idtech6 with geometry destruction? that would be awesome!)
Well, the multiplayer and coop looks better and still can be something, I'm looking forward to see more.
Very generic and average stuff. Can't see why anyone would buy this over any other game presented in that very show.
Also seems like Doom 4 will feature slow movement speed, few enemies and have weak sounds; just like Doom 3. Further, the whole presentation and post-interview made it very clear that this game is 100% aimed at console gamers, which will hurt us the hardcore crowd. To name some, the demo showcased gameplay using a gamepad and on PC's the game will run at 60 FPS tops.
You might call me stupid, but I'm not really concerned about the 60 fps part. I play quake on a highly lagged 60hz crap, and i still having fun, and no problem fragging nolife "pro" wannabes. New Order was also 60hz locked + verry slow, and I had so much fun with that game, it was one of the very best single player FPS games i have played for many years.
My problem with this clip is that any average gamer enthusiast can see it instantly that it's boring shit, and it's honestly beyond me how people at id couldn't feel it for decades now. This game was rebooted like 3 times allready and if you could magically change the assests from Rage, you probably couldn't tell much difference. I wonder who are doing this, and why?
yes agree. i do not think anyone from id have play new games on market. is like they live under rocket since 1990s. all old ideas that people are bored of. do not understand why they do not see this either. i think rage2 would have been better than this.
Expressly stated on the post-conference, by Stratton himself. Plus all id software games from the past .... 12 years or something, have had that limitation.
BTW before you and any other wants to criticize my opinion based on my nickname, read Memento Mori's thoughts on the other thread about the matter. He thinks the exact same as I do (though I wrote it earlier :P).
Marty Stratton : The jump counts all go to double. Look, right across the marines, double, double, double and...
Todd: Oh, I see. And most jumps go up to single?
Marty Stratton : Exactly.
Todd: Does that mean it's higher? Is it any higher?
Marty Stratton : Well, it's one higher, isn't it? It's not single. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at single. You're on single here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on single on your jump height. Where can you go from there? Where?
Todd: I don't know.
Marty Stratton : Nowhere. Exactly. What we do is, if we need that extra push over the cliff, you know what we do?
Todd: Put it up to double.
Marty Stratton : Double. Exactly. One higher.
Todd: Why don't you just make single jumps higher and make single be the top jump and make that a little higher?
Marty Stratton : [pause] These go to double.
god, it's pretty clear nothing will ever make any of you happy
they brought back everything from DOOM and made doom 3 look like a giant piece of shit, and yet people here are comparing it to DOOM3?
there reaches a point where there's criticism, and just being a bitter good-for-nothing miserable loser. The gameplay looked awesome, this is what DOOM 3 should have been from the start. Too few enemies? ever heard of a showcase demo?
you people will never ever be pleased, ever. stop thinking there's something out there for you, there isn't. just misery
i think people here have honest criticism. game have been in production since 2008. years and this is result? very poor effort from id and game will not be release till mid 2016.
You know.... We care. We are the real fans, who get emotional just about everything related. And yes, we are honest too, because we want Doom to be good and id to prosper. You - on the other hand - act like a toddler towards us.
I'm looking forward to the multiplayer part ofc, but beeing an avid gamer for many decades and seeing the gameplay, one can form an opinion: I would be very surprised if the SP would turn out to be something good.
I like the look and style of it a lot, but its obvious we will be stuck playing quake live forever since doom4 mp looks like total shit, atleast from the trailer. So slow and with fucking mele grabs and shit
just wana preface by saying that we should have no perfect idea of a doom game in our minds, as long as its good enough, then I think it's great. IE: Doom 3 was good enough for its time. and this doom is certainly looking better than that, esp with the snapmap feature which im sure the doom community will go nuts over.
+sound (guns, ambient noise, monsters were all great)
+graphics (not the greatest, but the scene where he watches the old recording and grabs the dude's arm and rips it off to use as a key was great, its not necessarily nostalgic but little things like this keep interest)
+Magnet-mode like health pickup (if you're in the vicinity of the health, it kind of just latches onto you instead of u having to necessarily walk over it)
+DoomSNAPMAP
+Hell
+slow-mo while gun swapping, gives you a tiny bit of time to make the switch
+animation (reallyy good job of how all the characters move around the map and even die, lol revenant jetpack blowin up)
+noReload
+Quad-Damage like Berserk powerup
+BFG took up like half the screen, ROFLworthy but sick at the time
-Beta (probably the biggest let-down, no announcement of a beta which was promised far before the release of New Order, im assuming something MP will be playable at QCON this year??)
-gun-models (I wasn't very impressed at all w/ the shotgun, and the double-barreled one was ok, and I wasn't a huge fan of the machine gun, although the chaingun was nice)
-lighting (game in general seemed really dim for some reason, u couldn't see the enemies or the surroundings too well, almost doom3 like)
-demons (Imp/HellKnight same as the D3 version just buffed up a bit ;(( I wish it was a bit more epic looking, same goes for the CyberDemon altho he was pretty good.
singleplayer looks shitty. like a slightly better doom 3.
multiplayer looks like they tried to move a lot of features from ql to doom but the games a bit too casual for quakers to care and a bit too bland for casuals to care.
Whats the deal with bethesda.net and quake that they announced after the doom stuff?
very dissapointed. all these year and this is result?
+gore
+music score, very quake 1 like
+chainsaw
+speed (but very slow for quaker)
+death animation
+weapon animation
+death punch
+shotgun
-graphics look subpar. compare to call of duty advanced warfare
-too dark, more light need
-weapon type (no original idea)
-doom co-op/multiplayer (look like q4 graphics, movement and sound)
-single player enemies (unintelligent, look easy to kill like in rage)
-rocket launcher splash
it does look like console game
i do think this game will kill quake live. snapmap alone will bring in many new player. ability to make new gametype is also interesting. but many old ideas. id is not adapting to new game on market.
Adapting to current trends is exactly what they are doing and I don't blame them, as a business.
I'd personally like less graphical fidelity and be able to have more monsters on the screen, maybe not as many as doom had but quake/serious sam numbers. But that probably just wouldn't sell nowadays.
