Let's set aside the part about Quake not enjoying the same amounts of popularity as certain other esport titles which would perhaps make more sense from a marketing standpoint. k1llsen being a "runner up", could be irrelevant.

He is one of the most mechanical superior players achieving very flashy and impressive shots due to his amazing aim. You could draw a correlation between his ability to do this, and the hardware he is using, which a sponsor could then further draw upon, This is of course assuming that he is supplied with the sort of hardware that would actually be relevant in such a correlation.

Then compare rapha who, as far as I know, has the most championships. He is not known in particular for being a mechanical player with god tier aim, but rather a very intelligent and tactical player, who wins on brain power. A sponsor would have a hard time taking any kind of credit for his achievements.

This is of course just a minor point that argues from the straight logic of it all. rapha's numerous titles will of course be very good marketing asset, especially towards people with lesser knowledge of the Quake scene, or simply if you do not analyse much :>
