Instagib is by no means a low skill mode. It has less skills that you need to utilize simultaneously for sure, but low skill it is not. You can win at instagib without having to bother timings and control. Sure, in the case of item control it's pretty much anyone's game.. but so what?

Let's compare to people who play vanilla and are good at item control and such, for them it's possible to play that mode while they're lacking in aim or at least inferior to their opponents in that department. So does that make vanilla a low skill game as well, when it's emphasis in certain skills isn't apparent, when in the case of accuracy, it's just about anyone's game? Even if you're hitting your LG like sub 20% it doesn't matter if you got all the armor on the map, the game does not reward accuracy as much as it does item control, so does this by your logic make vanilla a low skill game?

It has a low skill ceiling because a) most of the maps played are wide open like longest yard, drunken mummy b) someone can get a lot of frags just staying in one spot c) someone can get a lot of frags just camping spawns. Also, rail is the easiest gun to use and it's one shot to kill. I've seen plenty of top tier duelers and ca players in insta and it's not at all uncommon for a t2-t3 randoms to have 90% their score.

You can get a lot of frags by staying in one spot and camping spawns in vanilla too. Very biased arguments you have there. If you're upset about open maps, play some non open maps then ffs.

If you like instagib in general regardless then just quit playing QL altogether, QL's instagib is quite honestly slow, boring and simple. Xonotic, Nexuiz and even UT2k4 have way more interesting instagib modes as well as more map/mode variety. Hell, even Warsow has better instagib, too bad they only play bipbeta.

That server is pretty iffy, but no it's not terrible. For some reasons most servers hosted in TX seems to have bad peering resulting in bad routes. This was the case with the id software TX server and many of the new ones

You play over 60 hours of quake a week, you frequently (every game?) deride your opponents as being skill less noobs, you fancy yourself as an intelligent and skillful Quake player. But you have, and always have, played the game modes which require the least amount of effort to be decent at, and which also have the lowest level players.

It's pretty obvious the reason you have such hostility towards FFA, CA, and anything that isn't duel, is that you can't compete in those modes.

I have no problem acknowledging the strategic depth and overall complexities of the duel meta game. Learning and practicing that type of game isn't interesting to me, but I respect it.

I don't have hostility towards different game modes, I have played all of them over the course of the 8 years or so I played QL and outside duel, CA is was my #2 played mode. I have a problem with people who portray themselves as good players without placing themselves into the most rigorous competitive environment available. There are a great deal of amazing CA players who couldn't fudge their way past 1900 elo in duel. An excellent example of that would be KGB, who fell repeatedly to many mid tier duelers and was never able to climb above 2100 elo despite his prodigious aim.

I was a high ELO player in CA despite playing it very infrequently when the ELO thing finally hit QL (by then I was TDM and duel only, more or less). I can compete in any game mode in Quake Live with the exception of CTF because I truly do feel hostility towards such a boring version of the game. And I still did that for roughly a year (2009).

KGB is a very talented player. His skills are also transferable to basically any fps shooter, unlike yours. Outside of the 15-person circlejerk that is NA duel, I don't think anyone would be the least bit interested in your supposed abilities. you're delusional if you think kgb's abilities would transfer more than anyone else - being good at Quake does not make you exceptional anywhere else, such a widely held misconception. you are a primarily a CA player though, so I guess I'm not surprised you'd believe that.

Aiming skill, game sense, dodging, positioning, etc transfer easily between fps games. People who aim well in QL can quickly learn to do the same in TF2, cod, battlefield, UT, and soon to be Doom and overwatch. You're the one who is delusional if you think KGB couldn't be an aim monster in all of those games with relative ease. CS has the additional element of difficult recoil control, so the aiming is fairly different. A number of strong aimers/dodgers have come from TF2 and done well in Quake in short order. It's not a myth or a misconception at all.

If someone is trash talking me or being rude it's still rare for me to get involved and perpetuate it. You say I play to win and I disagree. I play to hit my shots. That usually involves winning but it is not always the case. There have been plenty of times I've lost a match but hit the shots I wanted and I'm not bothered at all. I'd rather lose doing my best than lose with a poor performance. There have been matches I've lost in CA where I had ~150 score and I really don't care. I did my part that's all I care about. If anything you are talking about is related to Loadout FFA then don't even bother mentioning it. That was not FFA and everything that ever happened there does not matter to anyone.
