Nope, they made that change to the shotgun because it made sense as all the hits from each pellet in the one shot happen at the exact moment.

Seriously though they should update it so it does it for lg and you can set in the console how long it has to wait for the lg to tally up the total because realistically speaking no one can tell how many 6's you hit in a fight then calculate the total haha.

I think it's not really about what makes sense, but more about what's easier to present.

With LG you would have to decide when it's a good time to show the accumulated amount of damage dealt. There are probably some simple strategies one could use ( show it every half a second while fire is being pressed, show it when you stop firing ) etc. I don't know if they tested similar things and decided it was not good enough, or if they did not bother.

TF2 has damage number batching with a customisable timeout, they could investigate it if the game was being developed.

People have been using intelligence and sound to estimate enemy stacks for decades. It still works pretty well.

There should be no damage numbers at all on any weapons. That's part of getting good, knowing how much damage you do with all weapons and judging enemy health.

Same with item timers, universal ammo boxes, etc etc etc. Turn all the casual mode shit off by default, it's not like we're trying to get new players into Quake any more just play it in regular man-mode and enjoy.

You can also set off, variable damage weapons only, or all weapons via the 'game' section of settings too if you don't fancy working out cvars.

Well there is one valid reason I can think of, it does mean you won't miss if it's a modified server.
Even more useful on those auto handicap servers.

You will be able to accurately assume damage delivered in time.

Not at all in duel:
1) vs rockets you are weaker
2) depends on gamestyle. If a good aimer ambush you with the lg that deals more dmg you are fucked... not only he will do tons of initial dmg before u know it, but he will keep tracking and hiting tons that way. I am not a good aimer and still before the nerf I totally destroyed 200/200 stacked good player in an ambush I setup with 100/100 stack. Nowdays I can't do that - lower initial dmg + they run at you with rockets, no scare factor nowdays. Same with the rg, before one would think even on 200/150 to jump towards ra. Now? Not they jump, you hit, then then dont care - jump at you, still dont care and rush with rl, you hit one more and boom - u are fraged. Noone rushed that way with rl in q3 vs pulled rail... slower rockets + more dmg @ rg. Now same thing with lg... they rush at u with rl while you hit 60-70% on them and they dont suffer enough dmg to condider more careful aproach.

Is it a good thing? Subjective... for me and any other hiting more than avrg with the lg - it's not. For someone with a good rl - it is and nothing wrong about that. :)

Edit: Ur argument is valid in 1vs1 close/equal stacks fight... that are actually quite rare, especially nowdays. The change have more effect in the prefered/stronger weap that before was lg: close possible, mid better vs rl, long rail. Now it's rocket ftw close range, mid rl is better in most cases + u close the distance and ur enemy should switch = less dps, long rail.

keeping rg in the cg_damagePlum is worth it if you play more than just duel. Knowing that you hit two enemies with rail is pretty useful. pg can be useful for knowing when you hit that low damage pg splash.

Damage plum for rail gun is essential to avoid any mindfuck when you die from a rail multiple times in a duel when you were sure you weren't railable, only to find out you're on one of rehepapp's custom damage servers for 'proper' players.
