man i really wished he won the grand master title so that rapha and him both have duel titles in the same year which makes their rivalry more interesting (but the 3-0 final was very close, the scores didn't really reflect the whole match)
You could tell that he wanted to just breakdown. I think EVIL is on his way to the top or on his way out. I can understand being super frustrated with losing especially with such a tense elder game. Either way it was great. Get 'em next time evil!
I don't think Europeans are as bent on "nationalism" as many people think. Firstly duel is mostly about the individual, people care or base their support on Rapha not because he is American, but rather based on his quake skill and past performances. He is one of the all time greatest quake champions out there and I don't think anyone can deny him that, some people are his fans, some aren't regardless of where they are from.
Perhaps in the TDM there is more of an element of country pride, usually because the teams are comprised of players from that specific country (or continent as was the case in many of the EU teams).
Anyway all of this aside I very much doubt and don't really see much evidence of EU nationalism being hurt because evil lost, rather evil fans (of which, sure many are going to be from Europe as that is where he most often plays, i.e. EU servers, leagues etc).
Also all that being said, I feel Americans are the one perpetuating this notion of nationalism all the time, they think America is the best at everything, case in point when the finals finished between Rapha and Evil the crowd started cheering "USA USA USA"... i mean seriously... that was not even necessary and probably made evil feel a little awkward (i'd go so far as to say even a little insensitive, he was not their representing Russia, in neither mode, he was representing himself and his sponsor... in fact his team was mostly American) .
Well, in football there are national teams. At Quakecon duel there are players. I can't remember crowd going "Switzerland" at Federer games or other 1v1 sports (maybe at some world championships, but then it's also representing your country - not like quakecon).
What was wrong with the chants? All soccer teams and sports teams cheer their teams. This happens all around the world if you havnt noticed. I've never sene the problem with that at all. And it happens all the time.
I also don't see what's wrong with european pride or rather showing some nationalism. I don't get all this, "evil should of won" type BS. It's obvious who played best int he finals.
So I think your post is drivel man :P
I would say for me it has more to being a pathetic sore loser then anything.
Just to clarify, he has the saddest expression on his face which makes me wish that he would get something in return from this, especially after an outstanding performance like that.
The games were really tight despite the 3:0 ending score.
Rapha is and was the clear winner, that doesn't mean you can't feel any compassion at all for second place.
It's got next to nothing to do with pride, nationality or whatever you folks are about.
It's about feeling a bit saddened about Evils situation.
I would say exactly the same thing if roles were reversed and there was an image of rapha with a blank expression on his face packing his gear of the stage.
Not sure I can even justify a response to this as you clearly didn't read a word I typed.
If you go to the world cup soccer and you have USA vs ENGLAND or whatever, then sure cheer for your country. If you go to a champions league game with like Manchester United vs Barcelona, do you cheer for England and Spain, or for you the club? I bet dumbass Americans would still shout USA if an American club played another international club.
Why did the crowd not cheer, "RAPHA RAPHA RAPHA" at the end instead?
You could've worded this a little bit more friendly, but overall you are right.
The USA USA chant really felt like some stupid patronization of the opponent. It was obvious that evil was very nervious and even raged during the game. Yes, thats thanks to raphas dominance, he forced evil in that corner.
But then the audience has to rub salt in the wounds? THAT felt low, on a human level.
"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
Ya if evil won I would respect Russia chants. Even if it was only 10-15 people there chanting it. I liked when evil took dreamhack winter 2012. Thought he deserved some nice chants for achievement
