Icecream is served like that in Germany basically everywhere. It looks (and tastes, probably,) great, but nothing extraordinary.

like somebody else said, icecream usually looks like that in .de.
i guess it comes from the centuries of germans invading italy during the summer and the wave(s) of italian immigrants in the last millenium.

most cafes offering those don't know the first thing about making icecream themselves and will sell you re-branded crap which only resembles 'real' icecream on the surface to the uninitiated.

i'm lactose intolerant... and ice cream is like an obsession ever since i realized that.

thing is i tend to forget to have my lactase pills around so this summer i had ice cream just 3 times :(/ they made all kinds of stuff "lactose free" but no one thought of proper ice cream yet.
