classic cods have awesome single player modes, particularly UO and 4 (probably the bashandslash cfg, if no one came up with something better afterwards).

and you should be able to get 125fps with that on QL. Everything as low as possible, including vertex, disable bloom, vsync off (asynchronous flip on on your graphics card control panel), etc.

soz is just intel gm45 chipset, but with all the above u said its 60fps, otherwise its 30 =)

Did you install your drivers if you're in ubuntu? did u try logging out then clicking on the ubuntu long and clicking 2d ubuntu? That turns all the eye candy softwares off and makes quake run a lot smoother.

Just try running my config with ubuntu 2d (I took out the weapon and movement binds, so it's just graphics)

is it 60fps because of vsync? doesnt go higher in corners etc?

Really check vsync setting, an old 1.2ghz dual core laptop with vista and 1GB ram manages 60 fps.

umm, thanks.. graphics aside im really just looking for some games i can have 20-30minutes fun, not some hour-week long adventures tho

its set to 640x480, vsync turned off ingame... its not stable 60fps more like 60fps at best generally between 30 and 60 unstable. everything else "extra" also turned off like postprocess, colorcorrect, bloom, dynamiclight etc

xonotic only 30fps on low detail settings too... pls help!! some fucked up shit going on... its ubuntu 12.04 btw but im about to thrown the whole fucking laptop out the window

Xonotic is very demanding when it comes to hardware.
You may try:
any id game except the ones build on id tech 4 and rage ofc
any ut minus ut3
wolfenstein: et
tremulous (fps/rts clash)
legends
openarena
smoking guns
assault cube
urban terror

That are some ones off the top of my head. The latter two seem like a cross between quake and cs. Otherwise you may try warsow but i'm not sure about performance.

Also check out gravity bone. Not really an fps but it's very short and brilliant, and you can run it in wine.

I confirm that xonotic and darkplaces engine in general are very demanding.
I get max 100 fps on your hardware and I don't think that I can tweak it any further.
ezquake runs great though :P
The same goes for q2, q3. I haven't tested w$w yet (waiting for .7).

It's because of software rendering. Using Xen you can passthrough graphics card to virtual machine with small performance hit but I wouldn't recommend it on your hardware anyway.

I'm on gm45, dual core 1.8 ghz, 2 gb ram and I get constant 125 fps on each duel map :-) (and pickups-playable fps in tdm).
Actually I get better fps on windows (no fps drops on tox) but I play on win anyway because of some strange input lag I cannot fix (http://www.esreality.com/post/2280030/mouse-i...der-linux/).

It's not fully tweaked because I don't play on it anyway. You may need to adjust r_intensity and r_gamma to make black crosshairs work .r_enablepostprocessing 0 gives huge fps boost on linux but the price is no overbright and fuzzy crosshair so black is the only way to go. Also adjust r_displayrefresh 120 line and keep in mind that quake won't work on any resolution that isn't displayed by xrandr. If your desired res isn't displayed by xrandr by default let me know and I'll tell you how to add it manually.

You must disable SwapBuffersWait. This is what causes jumping between 30 and 60 fps (read about it in man intel). It may be possible in some gui configuration tool under ubuntu - search and google for it first because this way it won't get overwritten by some software updates. If not then here is a generic solution: throw this into your /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/intel.conf

If there is an auto generated /etc/X11/xorg.conf file or files in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d with intel driver section then you may need to edit it instead and add mentioned options. If your X server doesn't start after this then just revert these changes.

As you can see I commented out TripleBuffer (enabled by default) and XvMC (disabled by default). I have no idea if triple buffering is needed or even works for opengl apps. It certainly doesn't affect fps. XvMC is X video Motion Compensation extension. It's disabled by default but it will boost MPEG-2 (dvd movies) video decoding using graphics card so uncomment it - bonus :-)

Most probably you are capped at 60 fps because of vsync though. If you can break 70 fps with my cfg and xorg settings then you don't need to read this. I had hard time disabling vsync on intel graphics - drivers aren't specifically written with gaming in mind ;)
I've just noticed that it's unnecessary on latest kernel/drivers but ubuntu isn't exactly cutting edge distro so you may still need this.

There is a tiny utility that lets you tweak few simple parameters of intel xorg driver. It's called "driconf" and may be in separate package. It edits ~/.drirc file but it wont add necessary <device> section.


Now if any of this was useful, and I'm sure it was, I demand a favor! Please install ezquake (it should be in repo) set in_mouse 2 and the same sensitivity as in ql. Play it for a while and then play ql a little and tell me in this thread if you can feel mouse lag in ql compared to ezquake. Especially when flicking with sg/rg.

Atm on my system everything I need to do to have max fps is this:

Thats it. On windows it's just point 1 but I get worse fps.
Intel graphics cards and drivers aren't designed with gaming in mind.

Also getting 640x480@120 res on windows was much harder than on linux and required me to install additional software.

hmm add it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf (or just add the "Option" line if there is already intel driver section.
If there isn't such file then create one.

id gladly help with the mouse problem but theres a couple of factors to consider:

- i use a wmo, currently i assume on 125hz
-being to used 120hz but this display is a shitty 60hz
-im not used to play in linux at all (perhaps mouse will feel different by default than in win7 cos of drivers?), at least my accel is def way different what i used to in win7, but thats either because of the 125hz freq or linux drivers
- i already tried to install to vanilla q1 but despite having pak0 and pak1 in my possesion i was too stupid to succeed

still if u think it is worth to try, i can do it, let me know

Actually it's pretty easy to change mouse polling rate on linux.
Just create /etc/modprobe.d/usbhid.conf file and fill it with:

option usbhid mousepoll=4

4 = 250hz
2 = 500hz
1 = 1000hz
After reboot type
cat /sys/module/usbhid/parameters/mousepoll
in the console. If it says number above then it's ok. If it says 0 then it didn't work.

I used to feel the lag on 60 hz too.
With in_mouse 1 sens is exactly the same as on windows here. I don't use accel though so dunno.
When it comes to installing qw - just get nquake and it will do everything for you :-) With in_mouse 2 it should be exactly the same as ql with in_mouse 1
If it's too troublesome or you run into another problems - don't bother, it won't change much no matter what you feel after all (I'll just start suspecting myself of a huge placebo effect syndrome :P )

thanks man for the help. i did check the qw-ql difference, didnt noticed anything but again, even ql feels weird now cos of 125hz polling rate (this one didnt worked), and also due to not playing for 2weeks or so... so idk.

I don't know if you cba because of playing on laptop etc. But I'm writing this just for the sake completeness - if you add usbhid.mousepoll=4 to your kernel parameters it will work for sure. Here is guide how to do this in ubuntu (only last part "permanent" in the end is relevant.
