@Venser
steam uses ip country checks. ofc i cant check all countrys. this issue is known. not my fault. many ppl bought it through this deal, the steam forum is full with beginner topics.
@Jamerio
this "community chose" deal was timelimited, when i wrote the post 3 hours were left. Look at postdate and add 3 hours. 5,74 euro and the dlc for 1,24 euro. i call that low.
i think when quakecon is held we got another deal on steam. bethesda did this the last years.
the shoot mechanic is top. different weapon ammo is good for experiments. pistole zoom like a railgun, bow to control enemys, shotgun pop rockets, spider sentry, bomb car, turret. crysis 3 did the same. and the stars are the ape like mutants who can crawl on ceiling. deathmatch multiplayer would be a blast.
Lots of cool but overpowered weapons, all of which are long range because you can't approach a single enemy and the whole single player game is shooting from behind boxes.
Perfect idea for multiplayer mode, I guess that's why whole of ESR plays BF and CoD and not Quake ;)
>all of which are long range / game is shooting from behind boxes
true. on higher skill you need good cover. but one time i used only fists on a bigger mutant in dead city, took me a while. in lower skill theres is much to do. indi games like serious sam 3 or hard reset use more dodging instead of cover. but even classic doom on ultra nightmare needs cover to some degree.
with good mechanic i meant hitboxes are very precise and shooting is still fun.
is classic doom playable on nightmare without knowing the level inside out, i.e. best routes to keycards and knowing exactly the position of the enemies?
I think I tried once, it was too hard ...
played it through though on ultra violence like 4-5 times
the original maps are much easier than community wads. Plutonia Experiment from the addon final doom is hard, in the first level an archvile (lol) and evil enemy positions, often 2 machinegunners that hide.
you forgot 1 thing, since i started to play custom wads of good levelpacks two years ago, i bind all weapons on keyboard like quake mp. that helps a lot. after a while you take a quick cover behind corners. you start knowing the throw-things pattern of the monsters. also i use quicksave. sometimes i die but thats okay with me.
for me UV, and sometimes with fast monsters, is perfect. i want to explore the maps and look at them.
with doom ports like zdoom (i use gzdoom for singeplayer) you can change many things. for example play UV but activate fast monsters (in vanilla doom only available in nightmare). try it out, its funny, they throw things faster at you.
it all depends how long you play. there is no magic in higher difficultys. the playstyle changes a bit, more defense play instead of rushing superfast through the map. i mean i cant rush if there are 20 monsters in the next two small rooms. at least i cant.
the game is quite nice, the whole futuristic endzeit setting in a desert with all those canyons feels really cool, but then again I haven't played any fallout games, etc., so maybe if you played already those game you are already used to it ... but really it's very seldom I find the setting so interesting, the only other time I found a setting so interesting was when playing bioshock infinite ...
I also like the characters, how they behave, it's like in some action movie ... I just like it ...
the game is basically just an arcade shooter with some car racing in it ... pop corn ... I think I played it for 15 hours until I finished, and I didn't play for speed or something, and found also enough time to get the achievment for winning all races in it ...
problem with steam multiplayer is, you wait in a lobby for another guy (like in fear 3). i think you get one who is near your location. this can take some time, because today it isnt popular. dont buy it for the multiplayer. but it gives a glimpse on deathmatch. i had the tought the engine could be fun for deathmatch.
i did some coop runs. 1 time my mate was bad, the other time he known the level very good. the mechanic on harder difficulty is, cover, shoot, cover, shoot and remember the enemy positions. its not a good balance. if it were sensational, you would heard of it, right. and you didnt.
